Ignite the Dream: A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light[2] is a nighttime spectacular at Shanghai Disneyland in the Shanghai Disney Resort. Ignite the Dream unfolds on the park's castle, Enchanted Storybook Castle, similar to other hybrid-nighttime castle shows found at other Disney Parks. The show features fireworks, water fountains, fire, lasers, projection mapping, and searchlights. The show’s story is centered on Mickey Mouse flying through the evening sky after discovering a magical spark that ignites his imagination.[3] It also premiered on March 25, 2017 at Disneyland Park (Paris)[4] under the name Disney Illuminations, as part of its 25th anniversary celebration[5].
On July 17, 2020, Shanghai Disneyland reopened after being temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak's impact on China, but the Star Wars and half of the Frozen segments, as well as several other segments, were cut from the show. [6]
On July 10, 2021, following Disneyland Paris' reopening, Disneyland Paris announced that the updated version of the show would return on December 21, 2021. However, on March 6, 2022, it was announced that a new pre-show, Disney D-Light, and a new post-show, After Glow, would debut as part of Disneyland Paris' 30th anniversary celebration.
On January 10, 2023, it was announced that its predecessor Disney Dreams! will be revived and replace Illuminations starting April 12 as part of the resort's 30th Anniversary "Grand Finale", which is part of the Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration.
On May 8, 2024, Disneyland Paris announced that the revamped version of Disney Illuminations will return on May 31, 2024, as part of Donald Duck's 90th Birthday, but the Beauty and the Beast live-action and second part of the Frozen segments were cut from the show.
Mickey Mouse unleashes a spark of imagination that allows him to journey across several Disney films onto Enchanted Storybook Castle (Shanghai)/Sleeping Beauty Castle (Paris). Mickey is transported to three scenes from The Lion King. Mickey splashes down a waterfall that transports him underwater and into the sea, where he encounters Ariel from The Little Mermaid. The scenery transitions into the Great Barrier Reef from Finding Nemo, where Mickey is swept up into the waves of the East Australian Current. The waves lead him to a sunken pirate ship, where Mickey opens a treasure chest and uncovers a cursed Aztec coin. The disembodied voice from Pirates of the Caribbean is heard and a battle siege led by Jack Sparrow unfolds.
In the Shanghai version, Mickey is then taken to the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin, where he encounters Genie, who performs "Friend Like Me". The sequence is followed by a montage of Mulan. In the Paris version, Mickey enters the live action world of Beauty and the Beast.
