"The form of death over which I hold dominion is 'age'. 'Age', that is to say, 'time'. The greatest, and most absolute form. The death that inevitably awaits all things." |
Senescencia (セネスセンシア, Senesusenshia; Spanish for "Senescence")[1] is a technique used by Baraggan Louisenbairn.
Description[]
As the Espada who represents death by aging, Baraggan can dilate time around him, thereby reducing the speed of any target which comes near him, giving him sufficient time to counter incoming attacks. He used this aspect of the ability in his fight against 2nd Division Captain Suì-Fēng and her lieutenant, Marechiyo Ōmaeda, so they were incapable of landing a hit on him. Additionally, Baraggan can accelerate the age of whatever he touches, causing the appropriate damage which comes with aging. Baraggan aged Suì-Fēng's left arm to the point where its bones became brittle enough to eventually break. Baraggan was able to move behind Suì-Fēng and lightly tap her on the shoulder, with Suì-Fēng only being able to express confusion at what just transpired.[2]
Upon the release of his Resurrección, Baraggan's Senescencia increases in strength, allowing him to age and deteriorate every object around him; even the very building he walks upon begins deteriorating from his mere presence.[3] Because of this, he is protected from most close-range and melee attacks, for everything which comes within a specific range of him rapidly ages and disintegrates before actually making contact.[4] Baraggan deteriorated numerous rocks thrown at him by Ōmaeda's Shikai as they made contact with his field.[5] He used the ability on Suì-Fēng's Bankai to make it explode far away from him, allowing him to escape the blast relatively undamaged.[6]
Appearances in Other Media[]
- In Ryōgo Narita's novel, Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You, Senescencia is apparently unique enough to Baraggan that it could not be replicated by Roka Paramia's Telaraña alone.[7]
- In the novel Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, also by Narita, it was stated that Senescencia is what allowed Baraggan to truly defeat his contemporaries for the throne of Hueco Mundo, in that even an extremely powerful Adjuchas was hesitant to fight him due to it.[8]
