As an integral part of the United States Golf Association (USGA) local marketing support team, we were honored to share the US Women's Open Golf Trophy with everyone who attended The High Center Business Forum Dinner and Keynote last night. Jumpstart January finished up with a tail wag and a bark! While it took quite a while to coordinate, we recently visited the Bureau of Police in Lancaster City, PA, to make a donation to their K-9 unit. We had the pleasure of meeting Rico, a three-year-old German shepherd trained in narcotics detection. When a new K-9 joins the police unit, they’re usually around two years old and have received basic search training. These dogs cost roughly $17,000 apiece. They receive additional training upon joining the police force, specializing in either narcotics or explosives. The K-9s live and… The K-9s live and work with their handlers, forging a strong bond. Continuing with our Jumpstart January campaign, we visited Milagro House to make a financial donation, and had the privilege of learning more about the incredible work they do. Milagro House provides education, housing, and supportive services to Lancaster County mothers facing homelessness. Education is at the core of their mission, and women in the program have the opportunity to finish their high school education through an in-house high school equivalency program and/or complete a post-secondary diploma or certification through partnerships with local educational institutions. Milagro House has capacity for up to 9 families, who typically live at the house for about a year. Once a woman completes her education program, secures employment, and finds housing, she and her children transition out of the house and enter the Beyond Milagro program, which provides additional support and services during this transitional year. A huge shout out to Kristy Gismot for educating us on their important mission. As members of the Lancaster City community, we enjoy many of the resources it has to offer. Lancaster Public Library is one such resource, inspiring, empowering, and strengthening the community by connecting people with information, ideas, and enriching experiences. That’s why we decided to contribute a donation. There is something for everyone at the Lancaster Public Library, and the services they offer extend far beyond books! Visitors can check out a myriad of items including audiobooks, games, lawn activities, cookware, musical instruments, and more! At the library, you’ll also find children’s and teen’s programming, a business center, a media room with a green screen, and a sensory support room for children on the autism spectrum. All you need to do is sign up for a free library card! The Lancaster Public Library provides so many valuable resources to the local community, and community support is vital to the library. A large portion of their budget is funded through donations from local citizens and organizations. We live, work, and play in Lancaster. We believe in this community and want it to be strong. That’s why we support organizations like Clare House, a transitional housing program where mothers and children facing homelessness can receive the safety, support, and respect they deserve. Clare House focuses on employment so that the women they work with can build a stable foundation. Up to 7 families can live in the house at one time, and they stay for an average of 9 months, though they can stay longer if needed.
