It didn't rain again, and it's getting into the lower 40s at night. My house has crappy insulation, so it's coldish in the mornings. Me no likey. I want to have a fire but it's still fire danger season, so like, I'm not having a fire even though I want one. Living rural has benefits, but some drawbacks for sure. Only one real way to heat the house isn't that great. I could get space heaters, but that'd jack my power bill all to fuck.
Here in BC we had an explosion in the main natural gas line for the Province which has put us all on voluntary rationing for the foreseeable future. As a result, our furnace is turned lower than normal and I'm always wearing a sweater or a blanket at home.
Oh wow, that's crazy. How did it happen?
I don't recall hearing how it happened - only that it was not the result of criminal act or sabotage or that sort of thing.

Huh, well I guess things wear down and accidents happen.

It got down to 29 last night. And we have a HUGE wildfire up north, so having a fire in my woodstove feels super sketchy. I wish it would rain. This is the first year we haven't had rain yet. So far as I know, anyway. Most years we've even gotten a little snow by now.

Brrrr! We've had some energy issues at work for the past week, so space heaters haven't been allowed until they figure it out. Lot's of complaints going around the office.

44 people have been confirmed dead so far. It's pretty crazy. World's fallin' apart.

:(

Definitely makes the small issues at work seem very trivial. Be safe out there!

Fortunately I'm not in the line of this fire. Still hasn't rained, though. It's supposed to rain next week, but it's only like a 60% chance. It'd be so weird to go through all of November without any precipitation.

On Tuesday December 5th, at 12:37am after 18 hours of labour over 3 days, my new home theatre was born. It is healthy and quite lively and weighed in at 239.8lbs. At the heart of this new sound system is an Onkyo TX-NR787 Receiver powering the Atmos and DTS-X capable 5.1.4 setup. Centre Channel is a Polk S35, with twin Polk S60 tower speakers for the Left and Right Channels. Surrounds are handled by Polk S20 Bookshelf speakers and Subwoofer is a beefy Polk HTS 12. Since they all fall within the same “Signature” line, they are nicely timber matched. For the height channels, I repurposed the satellite speakers from the old Sony HT-DDW795 system that was my previous home theatre for the last decade and wall and ceiling mounted them angled towards the central seating positions. The home theatre system is a nice compliment to the 65” LG B7 OLED 4K HDR TV, so that the benefits of 4K UHD Blu-rays can be fully realized in both video AND audio. The other children are excited to enjoy the new 3D positional soundscape, and we hope they will have many happy memories together over the coming years!

I thought I would share some photos of the man cave, because everyone loves to share photos of their newborns.

Behind the couch has a good chunk of the movie and game collection, though far from all. 95% of my games are digital downloads these days though.

The movies are generally ordered alphabetically within genre - unless they are part of a series, in which case they are grouped chronologically with the series together, such as the MCU movies or Disney animated movies or X-Men movies.

If anyone has some suggestions for great Atmos or DTS-X movies to put the system through its paces, let me know! Thanks

EDIT: just read the above stuff. Yikes! Hope all is well my friends.

How did you all do on Christmas?

I got my kids a Nintendo Switch, with:

Smash Ultimate
Mario Odyssey
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Then I picked up some digital stuff:

Phantasy Star Ages
Seiken Densetsu collection
Chuka Taisen

Pretty cool that it's region free!

Good Choices on the games there! I played a bunch of Smash with my kids over Christmas break, as well. Also played some Mario Party this week which was fun in that Mario Party sort of way.

The sound system was my big Christmas present - just in advance - buy I've certainly been enjoying it :)

Speaking of Switch stuff, there's a games sale that ends tomorrow morning, 30% off a bunch of first party stuff. Also, I picked up the super deluxe edition of Mario X Rabbids for 26 (retail at 79.99!!), digital version.

I also snagged Octopath Traveler, for 41 something. That's been a fun game for me.

I'm not used to seeing first party stuff from Nintendo on sale [face_shock]

I know - I had the same reaction. Nintendo first part games so rarely ever drop below their launch price.

I've heard good things about it from an IRL buddy who's playing it with his wife. Well, actually I heard the good things from the wife.

I went back to Horizon Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds DLC recently. Left myself at a point that was challenging to jump back into, but I think I've figured out how to play the game again. [face_tongue]

Hey, wasn't there a new Fable announcement?

So I started playing Fable Anniversary on the Xbox One, and it's been great. I do the usual routine, rush through the intro, then head straight to the Chapel of Skorm and sell my soul for the bow lol

Anyways, to relate to your post, I jumped into Fable 3 really quick, and I didn't like it. It didn't feel like a Fable game at all, and I've already played it through 100 percent years ago. I tried rushing through the beginning to get to the meat of the game, but it didn't feel the same at all. So I just went back to Fable Anniversary

Sad, all the spammers are overtaking the board
Brazil's IGN boards got shut down, so now they're trying to take over the USA boards. They're slowly being weeded out, for posting porn and other stuff I guess Brazil is fine with.

That's really interesting! I wonder what the differences in TOS's around the world are?

I remember going to see a movie when I was a young teen, and I told my dad that it should be okay, it just had violence in it. He said it was okay and I went. The next time, I was going with a buddy from South America, and he told his mom, "The movie should be okay, it just has sex stuff in it, but no violence." And she was okay with it.

Anyways, it was pretty funny haha

Looks like he's still getting in healthy doses of Rocket League, so hopefully that's a good sign!

I have a random question, your profile says you're from NorCal. I'm from SoCal (Redondo Beach). I haven't had any issues with the terms NorCal or SoCal, or Cali for that matter. But I got criticized online for not standing against the terms, and told that i wasn't really from California. What do you think about that?

Good to hear he's still gaming at least. [face_tongue]

I get shit for it sometimes, but I'm born and raised here, and I've called them NorCal, SoCal, or Cali as long as I can remember. I get crap for it sometimes, too. I think there's some weird holdover with some parts of the state that don't like that Cali came from East Coast rappers (I think)?

I have no idea. This is the only place I could talk to him. I hope he's ok out there.
I am genuinely shocked at how long it has been since I've been on the IGN boards. Time really flies.

I am doing well. Life as a senior manager at KPMG is busy. Life with 4 children is busy. I don't get very much time for gaming these days (took me 9 months to play through Fenyx Rising). I have played a significant amount of Rocket League though because it was my way to continue to hang out with one of my friends once COVID hit and we went into lockdown and couldn't see each other IRL any more.

I actually just spent the last 2 and a half days harvesting marijuana. Which I haaaaaaaaate. I'd much rather be playing video games lol

But I'm pretty much going back into quarantine for a while. I was doing really good, but then BFF's birthday happened, so I went to her house. Her kid had a cold, so of course I got the cold. It wasn't covid but it still wasn't fun. I go out once in a year and I get a cold. Ugh. So all I do now is work and game.

That is some pretty terrible luck. It is interesting how having a cold is pretty much mandatory isolation these days because even if you don’t have COVID everyone is going to look at you like you do because you’re sick.

Are you harvesting the marijuana for work or for personal use?

I had a ghetto Halloween setup today, but it ended up being a hit! I hooked up a VCR to a heavy CRT tv in the back of my van, and then had candy on the table in front. I was a little embarrassed at first, because it's old stuff. Everyone that came by stopped a just loved reminiscing about it. We almost ran out of candy too...and that hasn't happened in quite awhile!
