Essential Tips and Tricks
The Rogue Prince of Persia is the latest entry in the long-dormant franchise, and a few tips and tricks can go a long way. As you repeat your cycles, you'll begin to unlock new weapons and equipment to help make your journeys both more varied and easier. If you keep these tips in mind, though, you can make your mission for revenge against the Huns easier!
Explore the Entire Area
This will be a familiar piece of advice for any players of Evil Empire's previous game, Dead Cells. Unlike some other action roguelikes like Hades, The Rogue Prince of Persia gives you a lot of room to explore during the run. Finding an obscure nook is almost sure to award you something helpful, like a new weapon, healing item, or gold. There's also a few key areas you can find in every area that are worth searching for before you proceed:
- Shops: Every level has a shop where you can exchange your gold for new weapons, equipment, or a healing item.
- Purple Fire: A purple flame that lets you collect Spirit Glimmers, a type of currency that can be used to unlock new weapons and equipment. Dying will lose all Spirit Glimmers collected since your last visit to one of these flames!
- You can also destroy these for bonus Glimmers, but it's much riskier! We recommend only doing this when you feel you've mastered an area.
Enter every doorway you find, too! They will often hold a chest, whether it's ready to open or waiting at the end of a platforming challenge.
Eliminate Enemy Shield Early
You'll come across some enemies that have a blue outline and blue health bar instead of the standard red. This means that the enemy has shield. When shielded, attacks that can't be interrupted, and the enemy will take extra attacks to defeat. Luckily, there are a couple of ways to deal with enemy shield very quickly:
- Use your slam attack! This can be performed by holding down on the left stick and pressing the attack button while in mid-air. A standard jump won't get enough height, but you can jump from a ledge or wallrun upwards to get some extra height.
- Kick another enemy into the shielded enemy. A collision will instantly destroy any shield that an enemy has. You can't kick the shielded enemies themselves, but kicking another enemy will do the job!
These methods will even work on bosses that gain shield! Shred that shield to gain an instant upper hand in combat encounters.
Don't Get Attached to Medallions
As you play through your runs, you'll gain medallions that can augment the Prince. These can be upgraded in certain slots, and you'll inevitably get some that aren't helpful to your play style. Be willing to experiment with new equipment that you find, and be ready to sacrifice some medallions to upgrade your better ones.
Use Healing Frequently
Your healing potion can be used by holding down on the directional pad. This will heal half of your maximum health. Right when you fall below this threshold, it's best to just use your heal at the next opportunity. Escape from your current combat is always an option when exploring, so if that's the only way you can get a heal off, do it! The fountains between each stage will also restore half health and give you your healing potion back, so never worry about using it too early in a run.
Don't Focus Too Much on Damage Numbers
When you come across a weapon in The Rogue Prince of Persia, you'll see a damage number corresponding to it. With melee weapons, this will be a DPS number, while your ranged weapon will show a number that represents the damage each time it's used. When these numbers are significantly higher than your current loadout, it does make sense to consider changing out the weapon.
However, it's important to look at all of the numbers in context. For example, if you have the choice between Double Daggers with 100 DPS or a Broadsword with 115 DPS, it's important to know that the Broadsword will swing slower. Do you prefer to attack faster? If so, it may be worth getting the Double Daggers you're comfortable with (though it's worth experimenting with each weapon type a couple of times to find your best fit).
This goes even moreso with ranged weapons. Chakram damage will nearly always be lower than a Bow, but the Chakram can hit multiple enemies. Experiment with each weapon to learn which tradeoffs you can manage!
Always Keep Moving!
The Rogue Prince of Persia has a parkour system with a lot of moving parts. From wallrunning to vaulting over enemies, there's a lot of pieces in the game's movement system. Because of this, you should try your best to always be on the move! This will make it easier to dodge enemy attacks, especially ranged ones that can detonate to damage a whole area. Jump over and kick enemies, run along the background, and wall jump in combat to keep the Huns on their toes!
