Checklists
Mines
The Mines is an area north of town, in the Mountains. Inside is a ladder and an elevator, along with a minecart and a dwarf.
By going down the ladder, you enter the mines proper, and will be able to explore, dig and fight your way further and further down. There will be many monsters to fight off and collect loot from, and rocks to smash and gems and other items to collect from them. The deeper you get, the better the items you will obtain. Every fifth level you reach will unlock the elevator here, allowing you to instantly travel to this floor upon subsequent visits.
There is also a Dwarf you can speak with after unlocking his room. It's on the main floor, blocked by a rock on the right. You can blow it open with any explosive, or wait until you have a powerful pickaxe. He will act as a merchant, but only after the player has obtained all four dwarf scrolls, and learned to speak the dwarven language.
Floors
There are 120 floors of the Mines, which have different themes, enemies, and treasures the deeper you go. A full breakdown of every floor can be found in the table below.
The Skull Key, found at the very bottom, is needed to enter the Skull Cavern in the Calico Desert.

Types Of Floors
As well as the themes of the floors which changes as players travel deeper into the Mines, there are certain random floor types you can encounter randomly as well
- Infested Floors - These are floors which are full of monsters, and all of them must be killed in order to escape. However, consuming Oil of Garlic before entering a floor will stop if becoming infested, and Staircases can be used to skip them. An infested floor will always be on the same floor in a single day, and every day after it will rise by one. There can be more than one infested floor at once, but they will always be 20 floors apart. Revisiting Infested Floors is a good way to hit Monster Eradication Goals.
- Mushroom Floors - These can only be found beyond floor 81. They have lots of Red Mushrooms and Purple Mushrooms. Mushroom Floors will not appear on elevator floors
- Dungeon Floors - These are floors similar to the Quarry; they will contain a collection of rocks.
- Bottom Of The Mine - Floor 120 gives you the Skull Key, but it also changes a few other elements of the game. Prismatic Shards and Diamonds can now drop from Monsters, and Gems and Purple Diamonds and be found in trash and requested from NPC quests. Also, some monsters will be stronger, and the Junimo Kart arcade machine in The Stardrop Saloon can now be played.
- Shrine of Challenge - This is not available until you complete Danger In The Deep from Qi's Walnut Room. After this, there is a switch on floor 120 which changes the Mines from "normal" to "dangerous". This makes the monsters more challenging, unlocks new special rewards, and introduces Radioactive Nodes which can be mined for Radioactive Ores.
Strategies
Now that you know what you're looking out for, it's a good time to break down strategies. Firstly, when the screen becomes foggy, it means several flying monsters will swarm and attack all at once. This is difficult to deal with, but consuming Oil of Garlic will prevent it.
Secondly, if you have Mining level 2 in Skills, you can craft a Staircase from 99 stone. This allows you to instantly skip any floor. It's best used when a floor is full of enemies, or when you are near the elevator; which occurs every fifth floor. Since the elevator allows you to save and exit safely, using a Staircase to get there can allow you to retain your progress.
Another strategy is simply to eat food, as this restores your HP, energy, and can offer a variety of buffs. Keep in mind that buffs don't stack, and any current buffs will be overwritten when you eat new food; the only exceptions to this rule are Coffee, Triple Shot Espresso, and Ginger Ale, which each stack with food, but not with each other.
Crates and Barrels
In the Mines, you will find crates and barrels with different rewards in them. The likelihood of each reward changes depending on what set of floors you're on. An items chances are not influenced by whether it was in a crate or a barrel.
The odds of some items will change depending on whether or not you have reached the bottom of the Mines yet. In those cases, the percentages before/after indicate the differences.

Special Items
There are a range of Special Items you can find in the crates and barrels, but it makes sense to give them their own table. Keep in mind that the percentages here are relative to the 2.2% chance of getting a Special Item at all, so your chances of getting a Carving Knife from a barrel is not 17%, but 17% of 2.2% (so 0.374% each time you open a barrel on floors 0-19).
