Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade - Episode: INTERmission Review
great
Intermission serves as a tantalizing tease of Yuffie's inevitable meeting with Final Fantasy 7's core cast, and an excellent reason to return to Midgar to experience her new exhilarating style of combat and entertaining side activities.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade News
This first part of the Final Fantasy VII modern trilogy fleshes out the world of Midgar significantly - taking elements that may have taken 5 minutes or less from the original and fleshing them out into whole chapters and building what felt like drafts of characters into real people.
The character designs are still outlandish (Barrett, Cloud and Tifa in particular feel out of this world when compared to the regular people of Midgar), but the conversations are no longer rough translations and now feel like significant effort was put into them.
Playing this after playing the original FFVII is life changing - the ability to view this world from a full 3D perspective after viewing it from the original top down view drastically enhances the experience - especially when it comes to the tiered society - you can clearly tell the difference between the slums and the plate above in a way that just wasn't possible before.
The combat system is also significantly enhanced. The ATB system is still in place, but the real time integration makes it significantly more exciting while still allowing for a turn based approach when it comes to more powerful moves. Add in materia customization and this allows you to truly build your loadout in a way that gives you a lot of flexibility.
The story enhancements don't stop there though - the meta narrative on top of the original that positions this as not just a remake, but a sequel adds intriguing threads that make this feel less like a retread and more like a commentary on remakes in general.
The trophies can be a bit much - making you go through chapters multiple times in order to accomplish goals for the dress one, for example, feel like a bit too much given you have to replay entire chapters that are irrelevant to those choices otherwise. And I wish hard mode hadn't felt so daunting after a few years so that I could've just replayed the game from there rather than doing normal again first.
Overall though this works great.
