Assassin's Creed Review
Summary
Players, assuming the role the assassin Altair, who has the power to shape events during this pivotal moment in the era of the Crusades.
A really fun, immersive game. You can choose how you wish to complete assassinations, fast and dangerous or slow and cunning. I enjoyed finding out all I could about my target before striking, as well as mapping out potential escape routes for after the deed was done. Combat is alot of fun and always looks cool when you land a kill by pressing the button at just the right time. Some of the assassinations do get repetitive and towards the end of the game you just want it to be over. The story is a bit confusing and uncommon though when you get a grasp on what's happening it does get interesting. The final boss fight is a bit underwhelming but satisfying nonetheless. All in all, great game with alot of awesome mechanics and immersion with a storyline that drags a little bit and some repetitive game play towards the end.
This was the first one that started the whole franchise, with Altair. Being a sucker for stealth games, this was right up my alley. Some parts of the game were quite repetitive but looking back you know this really was early days to what would become of this franchise. Still Altair def one of the better protagonists for this series
The main story is overall extremely interesting and fun, however the side content is possibly some of the worst things ever created. You have to find 100 flags in each section except they are not marked and the map is horrible. If they ever remaster this game, you should definitely check it out however not being able to see the flags is a poor choice and makes the experience more dragged out to the point where you start to see some of this game's faults. Overall, Ubisoft please give us a remaster and improve the postgame.
A far better game than most people remember. Combat is still one of the best in the series and nice to have a very simple and focused story. The game absolutely holds up even if there are some technical issues on PC but it is still playable
It was a fine game. The mechanics were very nice and the parkour seemed smooth. It had quite a few bugs. For example, i had to complete the last bossfight 3 times for some reason. Moreover, the story was really nice, but the gameplay loop wasn't as good. It was good the first few times, but doing the same side mission and unlocking a whole new area 9 times got exhausting. Especially due to the fact that the side missions were the exact same, even the voice actors and the dialog were the same. Each place takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete, and you have to repeat the same thing 9 times. The combat was fine. The enemy ai was really bad, and it didn't help that they were better at parkour than you. The only way to lose agro is to hide or kill you can't just run away it very rarely works as the enemies can climb up as well, and they have unlimited range. As long as there is nothing in between you guys, no matter how far you are, they will see you. Fighting the enemies is also an issue as more and more keep coming, and they are not difficult to beat at all. I have never died of the enemies in this game. Not because i am goof but because they are so bad and the fact that their number is so big makes them a hindrance then a fun experience.
I've been replaying the series and started with AC2. Made it up to Revelations and it just didn't feel right - skipping Altair's story before seeing his return in Revelations. So I went back to AC1, full well thinking that it would be a bit of a grind based on memory, and instead I was pretty floored by it.
Repetitive though it is in the gameplay department, there's something so unique about it. The dialogue, tone, atmosphere, music and structure all create one of the most unique experiences in the series. AC2 absolutely blows it out of the water in terms of gameplay variety, but AC1 has such a gripping and distinct charm to it, I've adored going back to it way more than I thought I would.
Also, I'd highly recommend playing it on Xbox Series X. It runs at 4K 60FPS and looks absolutely stunning, especially so for a game from 2007. It looks as impressive as I remember it looking for the first time almost 20 years ago(!).
It's not without flaws - the voice acting is inconsistent (Altair with an American accent, just why), the flag collectables are excessive, and of course, it's crushingly repetitive. But despite all of that, I'm so, so glad I decided to go back and play this. I should never have skipped it in my series replay. It remains a wonderfully unique, thoroughly immersive experience, and its impact on open world gaming can't be understated.
Assassin's Creed 1 was first released in 2007, so naturally the game isn't perfect. I find the mission to be repetetive and sometimes boring, but all of this doesn't matter. You are playing the very first Assassin's Creed, the game which intruduced the series and explains the real life part better then any other game after. The story is short but fun, but please, never ever attempt to collect all the flags, I nearly lost my mind.
