"Sounds like scrap rats. Creepy…"
―Cal Kestis, whilst traveling through the wreckage of a Venator-class Star Destroyer[1]

Scrap rats were a small species of scavenging rats native to the planet Bracca. They could also be found on Ord Mantell.[2] Quick and nimble, scrap rats inhabited the planet's vast junkyards and could often be found scurrying through the pipes of downed starships. They created nests out of wire and cables where they raised their young. Signs were posted around the scrapyards instructing people to not feed the scrap rats.[1]

Attention Do Not Feed Scrap Rats

A sign reading: ATTENTION DO NOT FEED SCRAP RATS

In 14 BBY,[3] several scrap rats scurried past the rigger and former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis as he traveled through the remains of a Venator-class Star Destroyer. Kestis seemed to have a distaste for the creatures, hoping to himself that they would stay away from him.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Scrap rats first appeared in the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment, where several of them can be encountered while traversing the level set on Bracca. In an early demo build of the game shown at EA Play in June 2019, creatures similar to the scrap rats can be seen on Kashyyyk rather than Bracca.[4]
