Gutkurrs were a species of vicious predatory insect carnivores native to the planet Ryloth, where they maintained hunting grounds. "Gutkurr" can also be used by Ryloth natives as a pejorative term.[4]

Biology and appearance[]

Gutkurrs were a species of large carnivorous insects native to the planet Ryloth. They were considerably taller than an average humanoid and had sharp, curved claws and sharp teeth to snare their prey.[5] Gutkurrs had short, thin arms but long and powerful legs that made them fairly fast. Their diet could include Twi'leks[5] and can-cells.[2] Gutkurrs had red eyes and spiky carapaces that were resistant to blaster bolts. They were said to be the second-most dangerous predator on Ryloth, the first being lyleks.[3]

Gutkurrs inhabited Ryloth's equatorial forests alongside lyleks.[3] They were also found on the planet Onderon.[6]

Behavior[]

Gutkurrs were pack hunters that could quickly surround careless individuals.[1]

History[]

Gutkurr pair

A pair of gutkurrs

During the Separatist's occupation of Ryloth, TX-20 had his troops capture several gutkurrs and had them placed in cages near his proton cannon battery in Nabat. He had his sergeant keep the gutkurrs starved, planning to use them against Republic forces. In order to confirm that the gutkurrs would only attack organic lifeforms, TX-20 opened the door to one of the gutkurr's cages to let his droid sergeant get mauled by it. The animal promptly spat him out.[2]

When the Republic sent General Obi-Wan Kenobi's Ghost Company to secure Nabat for their landing, TX-20's sergeant then released the gutkurrs. Several gutkurrs also attacked troopers Boil and Waxer, along with the Twi'lek Numa, at her home before the trio escaped through a secret passage. Soon after, the creatures located the main group and attacked and killed several of Kenobi's clone troopers. However, Kenobi was able to lure several them away from his troopers using the Force and then had his troopers blast a large amount of rocks to trap them.[2]
