Cerebus: The Back Covers (well, some of 'em...)

Hi, Everybody!

What Moment of Cerebus do I got today?

"What's the first appearence of..."

No, that's Backstage...

"Anybody got a copy of the Fox..."

Nope, Backstage...

"Hey Matt, here's the proof for..."

Backstage...

Oh, I know, I went to the comicbook store on Friday, and bought a bunch of Cerebus back issues for a buck each. And they have a mild pedigree, they came from the Maggie Thompson collection. Which is pretty neat.

Anyway, I was looking at the backcovers, and a few jumped out at me:

If you know which issues these are without looking through your back issues and checking, you win.

What?

I have no idea...

CEREBUS ARCHIVE NUMBER FOUR and COVERS BOOK lurch forward

DAVE SIM:
Okay, I'm only going to have a few minutes here -- no time to check or reply to any comments.  Just Impossible Thing #7 and an update letting you all know that Sandeep e-mailed The Last Twenty-Two Corrections to the CEREBUS COVER ART TREASURY to Justin at IDW yesterday.  That doesn't mean the book is coming SOON.  It took four months to get this latest set of proofs.  THIS time I've done the corrections as a series of posts to AMOC explaining what I wanted changed and why I wanted it changed.

But, it's really up to IDW now.  So TimW has the posts and he'll post them here the week that the covers book arrives in stores.  Whether that's later this summer, a year from now, two years from now...

All I can do is MY part.

It's really the same as with CEREBUS ARCHIVE NUMBER FOUR.  Rollie set up in Camp David at 10 am and we had the first four prints signed by 11:30.  I'm taking a two-hour break to make sure that I've actually been able to keep the signing to "fingers and thumb" and not stressing the wrist.  It's 1:07 now and the wrist is pretty good.  ONLY good for signing autographs, but really that's all I'm using it for.  Hopefully we'll have eight of the ten plates signed by the 3 pm prayer.  Then two more plates and the Bonus Prints (whenever they show up) need to be signed.

All I can do is MY part.  But, I have to say I usually get MY part done in a matter of DAYS.

Just saying.

CIBC Trust Corporation

Hi XXXXXX!

Since XXXXXXXXX is going to be charging for his services from the moment I engage him, I thought I would send you this draft of my letter to him to see if there's anything that I've left out of what the "bare bones" Last Will & Testament should include.

Fax # here is 519-576-0955.

Let me know the next time you're going to be in town and I'll give you a tour of the Off-White House!

Sincerely,

Dave Sim

PS: I'll be posting this to the A MOMENT OF CEREBUS website with your name "xxxxxx"ed out to make sure everyone is "on board" with all developments right from the outset.

xx October 15

Dear XXXXXXXX:

I got your name from your grade-school crossing guard compatriot, xxxxxxxxxxxxx at CIBC/Hamilton, who is presently creating THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION on my behalf.

It is his suggestion that we need to begin the process with a "bare bones" Last Will & Testament (I am presently intestate) specifying that I intend to leave all of my material assets and possessions to THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION inclusive of:

1) my publishing company, AARDVARK-VANAHEIM INCORPORATED which:
a) is the beneficiary of my Manulife Life Insurance policy No. xxxxxx . (There is no other beneficiary)

b) owns the Off-White House, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx repository of THE CEREBUS ARCHIVE (documenting chronologically, 1968 to the present, the pre-history and history of both Aardvark-Vanaheim and my 6,000-page graphic novel, CEREBUS); periodicals, books, audio and video recordings about CEREBUS; published and unpublished examples of my pre-CEREBUS and post-CEREBUS creative works

b) includes its CIBC business chequing account #xxxxxx CDN$ #xxxxxx US$

c) is the sole owner of cerebusdownloads.com and Patreon.com CEREBUS digital sales portals

d) owns the CEREBUS INVENTORY housed at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in Kitchener

e) owns all of my original artwork 1970-to-date (stored at xxxxx location)

f) owns the Comics Guaranty Corporation encapsulated "Dave Sim File Copies" of the early CEREBUS issues stored in safety-deposit box #xxxxx at CIBC King and Queen Streets in Kitchener
2) My personal effects and possessions contained in the RESIDENCE portion at the rear of THE OFF-WHITE HOUSE
a) my personal RRSPs under management by the CIBC
To specify in my Last Will & Testament:

1) the CIBC will serve as Executor of my Estate and Administrator of THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION

2) THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION will be fully "donate-able" in perpetuity by those wishing to participate in sustaining it financially

3) THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION will have as its mission statement
a) to preserve all of the above in as close to the state in which they existed at the time of my death as possible

b) to allow access to the premises at XXX XXXXXXX Street, with appropriate security precautions, to interested CEREBUS fans after my death

c) to donate a minimum of 10% of all assets accrued in each fiscal year to ST. JOHN'S KITCHEN and THE FOOD BANK OF WATERLOO REGION or successor charities having comparable "feed the poor" mission statements
Further, that the administration of THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION -- both before and after my death --is to include optimal transparency at the A MOMENT OF CEREBUS website created by and wholly owned by Tim Wxxxxxxxxx London, England (or successor CEREBUS website if AMOC ceases to exist at some point).

(that is, that all correspondence between myself and you and and all other participants on the subject of THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION will be deemed excluded from the traditional attorney-client privilege)

with all adjustments and tweaks to THE CEREBUS FOUNDATION taking the form of "codicils" to my Last Will & Testament.

A lot of meat, for a "bare bones" document, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Sincerely,

Dave Sim,
president
AARDVARK-VANAHEIM Inc.

IDW, $75.00
In Stores: 7 January 2015
Diamond Order Code: OCT140536

DIAMOND STAFF PICK:
If you were around in the early days of the Direct Market you were thrilled to be able to order and expect to receive your DC, Marvel and Archie comics. There really wasn’t anything considered indie or alternative comic unless you counted the underground comix. We then started seeing creators with their own vision influenced by the Rip Off Press, Print Mint, and others use the new Direct Market to bring their stories to comic shops.

Two books that were early hits were Elfquest by Richard and Wendy Pini and Cerebus the Aardvark by Dave Sim. While Wendy and Richard had a solid story right at the start, Dave took a little while to get his magnum opus underway. While Dave's stories took shape, his art continued to improve and the later addition of Gerhard helped place Cerebus among the top illustrated books.

With IDW Publishing's Cerebus: The Covers we can see the path Dave's artwork took over the course of the amazing 300 issues he produced. In addition to the artwork that was scanned from his originals, Dave has also provided additional artwork and sketches that help add to the historical relevance of this series in the history of comics.

From its start as a parody of Roy Thomas and Barry Smith's Conan, and later on Wolverine, Moon Knight, and then into a unique look at history, philosophy, feminism and finally old age and death, Cerebus constantly grew beyond its expectations. This book is a must have for your shelves to go next to your copies of High Society, Church & State, Jaka’s Story, and the rest of the 16 volumes in the series as well as the new remastered edition of Cerebus Volume 1 offered this month under Aardvark-Vanaheim.

IDW's 'Cerebus: The Covers' Update

Preliminary designs for 'Cerebus: The Covers'
Edited by Scott Dunbier

DAVE SIM:
(from Kickstarter Update #160, 30 May 2013)

People have been asking about THE CEREBUS COVERS books from IDW. Right now there's nothing to report. I suspect Scott Dunbier, thorough fellow he is, is trying to track down ALL the original covers. At some point both Gerhard and I are committed to writing text about the covers and neither of us have heard anything yet. Scott also still has some scanning to do of the later material and should be up sometime this summer. But, bear in mind, even when the books are done, there's a five-month lag time for the Diamond solicitation so the books definitely won't be out before the end of 2013 and probably not until well into 2014.

IDW Cerebus Book Announcement

IDW is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement with Aardvark-Vanaheim Inc. to publish a book of the 300 CEREBUS covers in 2013, IDW CEO and Publisher Ted Adams announced today as Scott Dunbier, IDW's award-winning Special Projects Editor arrived in Kitchener, Ontario to begin the daunting process of scanning all of the CEREBUS covers -- and cover related material -- at the "Off-White House".

"With the long-anticipated launch of Dave Sim's HIGH SOCIETY DIGITAL and HIGH SOCIETY AUDIO DIGITAL only days away, and as a long-time fan of Dave's work, I couldn't be happier to have IDW here in the Ground Zero spotlight with Dave and CEREBUS in announcing this major publication event which fans have been clamouring for since CEREBUS came to an end in 2004,"  said Adams.

Dave Sim, president of Aardvark-Vanaheim, added, "I can't think of any other publisher than IDW and any other editor than Scott Dunbier to whom I would have entrusted this Herculean task. I'm working full-time with Scott, providing him with every imaginable raw material needed. Based on Scott's flawless track record, I think we're all in for a treat."
