The Infinity Castle ( () (くう) (かん) () (げん) (じょう) Ikūkan Mugen-jō?) is the primary location of the Infinity Castle Arc. The Blood Demon Art and domain of the Biwa Demon Nakime, it is a vast extra-dimensional space that serves as the lair of Muzan Kibutsuji.

Overview[]

Infinity Castle - 10

Wakuraba, Kamanue, and Mukago all standing "upright" within their own gravitational field.

The Infinity Castle is an alternate dimension consisting of endless wooden rooms, halls, and moving corridors. It possesses a warped direction of gravity, allowing demons to stand upright, upside down, or perpendicularly on the walls, or move in physically impossible directions. Its unusual structure and layout as Nakime's Blood Demon Art allows any structure within to shift at her will, though the castle additionally also seems to move on its own.

Nakime's Blood Demon Art

Nakime taking Muzan to the surface.

Using her biwa, she can manipulate the position of any demon inside and take them to any location in her range. During the conclusion of the Lower Ranks Meeting, Nakime teleported Muzan to a balcony leading outside despite his original position being deep within the castle; moreover, the doors she used to close around him all seem to constantly shift within the unusual gravity, spinning within themselves as she changes its layout.[1]

The Infinity Castle's range seems to extend beyond its already incomprehensibly large area, as Nakime was able to manipulate Enmu and take him to an unknown town seemingly nowhere close to the castle, even dropping him in place using a supernatural vanishing door.[1] She was also able to transport Gyokko and Hantengu from the Infinity Castle to the Swordsmith Village after Muzan ordered them on a mission there.[2] During the Hashira's initial confrontation with Muzan, upon seeing them close in on him, Muzan gave Nakime the signal to open doors that caused them to fall into the castle, despite their initial location being in the extremely well-hidden Ubuyashiki Mansion. The location of the castle at that moment is transported to an area deep under the ground of a city, far away from where the Ubuyashikis predicted they would be.[3]

Infinity Castle - 3

Akaza encounters Doma's palace, on his way to the Upper Rank meeting.

Only certain demons seem to be aware of the Infinity Castle's existence, as Akaza did not have any difficulty traversing across the dimension, making use of its unusual gravity and shifting room to make his way across,[2] whereas the Lower Ranks during their gathering with Muzan were completely out of their element; when Wakuraba attempted to escape Muzan attempting to kill him, no matter far and how quickly he ran, he remained trapped within the same area of the Infinity Castle.[1] However, since Nezuko Kamado's immunity to sunlight was revealed, lesser demons have been seen gathering in large numbers in the Infinity Castle.[4]

Infinity Castle - 6

The region of shifting rooms, with Akaza on the central moving column.

Due to its unusual warped gravity, impossible structures can be formed within the Infinity Castle. During Akaza's path to the Upper Rank meeting, he fell hundreds of stories past the warped corridors and halls and flew past a large and ornate water garden palace, only to "fall" further past, reaching what seemed to be the bottom and landing onto the floor. This was then revealed to be a wall that was formed in the direction of the shifting columns below him and he was then taken high above the columns and past the ceiling through opening doors, coming across a large maze-like area filled with towering pillars.[2]

Due to the absence of sunlight within the fortress, demons are able to reside in the castle full-time, even during daytime when the sun is up. The walls of the fortress prevent any penetration of light and ensures that there is no risk of demon inhabitants being burned by sunlight, providing them with a secure haven.[5]

Synopsis[]

Rehabilitation Training Arc[]

The Lower Moons gathered

Lower Ranks are gathered in the Infinity Castle.

The Infinity Castle first appears when Muzan calls the Lower Ranks to a meeting in which he decides to dismantle them, killing them all apart from Lower Rank One, Enmu, who he lets live as his sadistic personality and honour to die by his hand was seen as the right mindset by the Demon King.[6][7] Nakime was responsible for summoning each member to the castle, through her biwa.

Swordsmith Village Arc[]

Kokushibo encourages Akaza

Upper Ranks are gathered in the Infinity Castle.

Following the deaths of the dual holders of Upper Six, Daki and Gyutaro, Muzan, through Nakime, subsequently summoned all of the remaining Upper Ranks to the Infinity Castle to relay his disappointment in them and to discuss a new plan of action. Kokushibo was the first to arrive to the castle, while Akaza was the last.[8]

After the deaths of Gyokko and Hantengu, as well as the revelation of Nezuko Kamado being immune to the Sun, Muzan gathers all of the demons in the country and turns them into mindless demons with the strength of a Lower Rank. These demons would later be seen as cannon fodder to be used against the various members of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Hashira Training Arc[]

Sanemi and Obanai see the Infinity Castle

Sanemi and Obanai find the Infinity Castle.

While on a mission to rescue a kidnapped woman from a demon, Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa and Serpent Hashira Obanai Iguro unknowingly entered an entrance to the Infinity Castle. It appeared as an abandoned castle in the middle of a dense forest, with numerous demons lurking within the building. As they tried to capture the demon they were pursuing, they leapt into what they believed was the inside of the castle, only to see the Infinity Castle's endless corridors and halls. The castle, sensing the Hashira, began to collapse and quickly vanish from view, leaving the two confused at what they had just witnessed.[4]

Demon Slayers VS Muzan Part 1

Muzan traps the Hashira and Tanjiro inside the Infinity Castle.

Having the foresight to predict the arrival of Muzan, Corps leader Kagaya Ubuyashiki laid a trap during his confrontation with the Demon King. Muzan, seeing his wife and two children present, did not sense anything out of the ordinary when he attempted to kill him and was staggered when a powerful explosion destroyed the mansion. He was then trapped by a Blood Demon Art of giant bramble branches and was injected by a hidden Tamayo with a special drug to convert him into a human. Gyomei Himejima then arrived to behead him, which fails when Muzan instantly regenerates his head. The rest of the Hashira and Tanjiro Kamado arrive, but as they attempt to corner the immobile Muzan, Nakime opened door beneath them all, trapping the Demon Slayers within the Infinity Castle.

Infinity Castle Arc[]

Demon Slayers and Crows inside the Infinity Castle

Kasugai Crows fly through the horde of plummeting Demon Slayers.

During the final assault against demons by humanity, the castle held many notable battles. These included Doma's clashes with Shinobu, Kanao, and Inosuke, Tanjiro and Giyu battling Akaza, Muichiro, Genya, Sanemi, and Gyomei facing Kokushibo, Zenitsu's duel with Kaigaku, and Mitsuri's and Obanai's skirmish with Nakime. Throughout the castle, numerous lesser demons, all having comparable strength to the Lower Ranks, were also present. These demons were sent to attack anyone, including the rest of the trapped non-Hashira Demon Slayers, as part of Muzan's plan to exhaust them for him to kill more easily.

During the second clash of the Demon Slayers against Muzan, Nakime was controlled by Yushiro in order to prevent him from seeing Mitsuri and Obanai, having used a talisman of his Blood Demon Art to trick Muzan seeing through Nakime's eye. Worried that Yushiro would take control of her and use the Infinity Castle to their advantage, Muzan activated the curse on Nakime by killing her through telekinesis, and subsequently caused the Infinity Castle to grow unstable. Prior to the Castle's collapse, Yushiro harnessed Nakime's cells just before their disintegration to transport Muzan and the Demon Slayers outside. He caused the entire structure to ascend, breaking through the ground and emerging onto a city street surface.[9]

Trivia[]

  • Due to Muzan's favoritism towards them, only the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki are aware of the castle's existence and have been regularly called to and summoned by Muzan himself to the castle for meetings or new orders. The Lower Ranks in turn have been implied to never have been summoned or let alone know of the castle's existence due to Muzan's own dwindling favor towards them over the centuries due to their constant losses towards the Hashira. This was showcased with the Lower Ranks being completely out of their element during the meeting, whereas the Upper Ranks have dedicated areas of the dimension to themselves.
