When the RDM is the Main Healer

Public
My friend -- playing a tank class of some sort -- and I (RDM) were in the Bozjan Southern Front, when a critical engagement popped up: "The Baying of the Hound(s)" We went in as soon as we could, since I wanted to get first dibs on any healers LFG. And right away one spoke up and an invitation sent: a SGE.

This would be perfect; I could focus on DPS, as one does as an RDM, while the healer kept me and my buddy up. I'd play backup healer, or rather reviver, as needed.

Being after midnight on a weekday on Famfrit, the number of players in the area was starting to dry up. So there were only like 15 of us in there. NBD. Or so I thought.

People were dying quite quickly to those spinning fireballs of death. Our SGE being one of them. Frequently, too. I think I revived him like 4 times. Out tank at least twice. I'm pretty sure I revived at least one non-party member, as well. And since I carry "Lost Cure II" as one of my Lost Actions, I was constantly using it on all three of us, along with Vercure on Dualcast.

I was literally healing more as a DPS than our healer was, as a healer!

I'm not complaining. Rather, it was funny and fun! Something different. Sure, RDM is occasionally the clutch reviver, but rarely if ever a primary healer. But here I was doing it. Yeah, my DPS suffered, but with so few players on field, I needed to keep the party up. And it helped, as we did eventually take down the Big Dog. Even our healer gave me props afterwards!

Having played SGE myself these last several months, I've gotten quite good at watching party health while also damage dealing. I'm up to Lvl 70 content on SGE (see my previous blog post), so my confidence in using the class has increased a lot. I'm hoping to start doing Lvl 80 instances soon on SGE. I don't think I'm that great with the class yet, often feeling like I'm still flailing around, though at least with some intention now, but not nearly as many party members have bit the dust during various instances as I thought would happen. In fact, in largely doesn't happen. Which is good! But I still need more practice.

In the meantime, I suppose I'll just keep on main healing on RDM. At least in Bozja!
