Professional History
Since 1999, John Cena has performed as a professional wrestler for WWE, gaining him widespread fame. However, he has also found a successful career as an actor, mainly as an action star and comedian. While he often made appearances as himself, he also starred in major character roles in several films, most notably as John Triton in The Marine, Steven in Trainwreck, Agent Burns in Bumblebee, and Jakob Toretto in F9 and Fast X.
Cena nearly found himself in a role in a DC Comics adaptation when he was considered for the role of Shazam in the titular film[1], but the role instead went to Zachary Levi. Eventually, James Gunn cast Cena in DC Studios' The Suicide Squad, where he portrayed the vainglorious and jingoistic vigilante Peacemaker. Gunn enjoyed working with Cena on the film so much that his improvisations on set led to Gunn creating Peacemaker, a Max series based around Cena's character that followed up on the events of the film. Cena stars in the series and also serves as a producer, and is currently at work filming the upcoming second season of the show.
