Overview

Zanka no Tachi, Nishi: Zanjitsu Gokui (残火の太刀 "西": 残日獄衣, Longsword of the Remnant Flame, West: Remnant Sun Prison Garb; Viz "Blade of Ember, West: Sunset Hell Robe") is a technique of Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto's Bankai, Zanka no Tachi.

Description

ZankaNoTachiNishiZanjitsuGokui372

The activation of Zanka no Tachi, Nishi: Zanjitsu Gokui dries up all moisture across the entire Seireitei.

Automatically activated upon the release of Zanka no Tachi, the "West" ability remains invisible until Yamamoto wills it to be seen. It causes his body to be engulfed in a raging, flamelike Reiatsu cloak that gives off enormous heat, reaching temperatures upwards of 15,000,000 degrees. As Yamamoto puts it, once his Bankai is released, both his body and blade bear the heat of the very Sun itself, and hence it becomes impossible to even touch him in his Bankai state.[1] Haschwalth made note that despite the appearance of Yamamoto's flame shroud, it would make no sense for such outrageous heat to be visible as fire, and so rather than literal flames cloaking him, it must simply be Yamamoto's overwhelming Reiatsu that is bursting forth from him, in what becomes visualized as fire.[2]

The heat of Yamamoto's Bankai causes the ground beneath his feet to melt and, most notably, passively dries up all moisture for hundreds of miles around, including any clouds that may overcast the sky, causing it become sunny instead.[3] When Yamamoto unleashed Zanka no Tachi against Royd Lloyd, everyone throughout the Seireitei immediately felt the ambient temperature increase in different ways, with Tōshirō Hitsugaya's ice Bankai, Daiguren Hyōrinmaru, being rendered unusable from afar.[4] Meanwhile, Royd believed that, were it not for his Blut Vene protecting him, he would have been quickly turned to ash by Yamamoto's presence, despite keeping his distance.[5]

When Zanka no Tachi is disengaged, all the evaporated water begins precipitating almost immediately due to the sudden loss of heat changing the atmospheric pressure of the surrounding area.[6]

Description

  • Yamamoto metaphorically describing "West" as him cloaked in the Sun's heat makes sense, since the core of the Sun has a temperature of 15 million degrees Celsius.
