Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck (ネリエル・トゥ・オーデルシュヴァンク, Nerieru Tu Ōderushuvanku)[2] is the former Tres (three) Espada. She was also known as Nel Tu (ネル・トゥ, Neru Tu) when she was a small, good-natured, childlike Arrancar. Nelliel lives in Hueco Mundo where she co-rules the world alongside her fellow Espada, Tier Harribel.

Personality[]

Nelliel has a philosophy on life that provides a code of honor, respect and mercy.[3] As opposed to Harribel, who silently admits she prefers not to antagonize Grimmjow,[4] Nelliel has no fear in violently disciplining the male Espada if she believes he behaves in an unacceptable way.[3]

History[]

Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You[]

Shortly after Kenpachi Zaraki killed Nnoitra Gilga and Ichigo Kurosaki left to fight Ulquiorra Cifer, Nel awoke from unconsciousness and ran away from the "scary Shinigami". She eventually ran into Uryū Ishida and Orihime Inoue, who told her Ichigo had returned to the Human World. Nel initially wanted to travel there with them, but when Mayuri Kurotsuchi wanted to experiment on her, she fled while Uryū and the others stopped Mayuri. By the time Nel returned they all had already left.[5]

Plot[]

Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You[]

In the seventeen months after Sōsuke Aizen's defeat, Nel and her companions Dondochakka Birstanne and Pesche Guatiche find themselves pursued through Hueco Mundo by the Pícaro in a game of "eternal tag". Despite the Pícaro's innocent motives, they get carried away and start firing Cero at the other Arrancar. Eventually, Pesche and Dondochakka decide to fight back and launch a Cero Sincrético at the Pícaro, knocking half of them unconscious. In response, the other half all fire Cero at once, blasting a large crater in the sands of Hueco Mundo. Believing Nel and her companions got vaporised, the Pícaro get bored and leave once again. Nel and Pesche, however, were saved by Dondochakka, who swallowed them and hid underneath the sand. Once Pesche senses the Pícaro left for the Human World Nel become worried for Ichigo, but Pesche assures her that Ichigo is strong enough, unaware that the Human had lost his powers.[5]

Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World[]

After rescuing Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Kisuke Urahara, Yoruichi Shihōin, and Yūshirō Shihōin from Askin Nakk Le Vaar's Gift Ball Deluxe, Nelliel and Grimmjow saved Tier Harribel from Yhwach's dungeon in the Wahrwelt. With Nelliel carrying Harribel while leaving the Soul King Palace, they encounter Shunsui Kyōraku and Ichibē Hyōsube who are in the middle of turning Yhwach's corpse into the new Soul King. Before Grimmjow could attack the Shinigami who are surrounding them, Nelliel uses her Bala to stop and remind Grimmjow that picking a fight now, right after the Quincy were defeated, would make them the next enemies for Shinigami. Grimmjow is not perturbed in the slightest, arguing that they just need to kill them all, but he finally relents after Ichibē assured them they would be free to leave, after emphasizing the importance of the balance of three worlds for the moment. Before returning to Hueco Mundo, Grimmjow then considers fighting Ichigo, but Nelliel once again reminds him that Ichigo is still heavily injured and Grimmjow wouldn't be satisfied fighting the weakened Substitute Shinigami.[3]

Six months after the Quincy Blood War, Nelliel, together with Harribel and several other Arrancar who used to serve Aizen, are gradually bringing back peace to Hueco Mundo by defeating the remaining Quincy. However, their peace is interrupted when a child clad in Shihakushō named Hikone Ubuginu arrives in Hueco Mundo and attacks them in an attempt to conquer them.[6] Nelliel, together with Grimmjow, Harribel, and the Quincy Liltotto Lamperd and Giselle Gewelle, manage to wound Hikone enough to force a retreat through another Garganta.[7]

Sometime later, Harribel and Nelliel are informed by Rudbornn Chelute that Grimmjow has left for Soul Society. While Nelliel is worried that Grimmjow wants to attack Ichigo, neither Harribel nor Rudbornn believe that even Grimmjow is that impulsive.[8] Shortly afterwards, Harribel and Nelliel open a Garganta to Soul Society with the intent to recover Grimmjow.[9]

As Harribel and Nelliel arrive in Soul Society, they are confused to find Luppi Antenor present and alive, as well as Quincy and Shinigami both fighting a gigantic, unknown Hollow controlled by Hikone. The Hollow, Ikomikidomoe, notices the new arrivals and addresses them, asking the female Arrancar if they are "misstresses" of Baraggan Louisenbairn. When an insulted Nelliel counters that Baraggan is dead, Ikomikidomoe reminisces about the former King of Hueco Mundo and lets out another massive roar.[10]

Soon after, Ikomikidomoe proceeds to spawn a large amount of Hollows to attack the Quincy and Arrancar, and Nelliel confronts Grimmjow, demanding an explanation from him. Eventually, Hikone returns Ikomikidomoe to his sword form and prepares to leave through a Garganta. When the Quincy and Arrancar try to stop them, Hikone fires a Gran Rey Cero at them, though Nelliel reacts quickly enough to counter it with a Cero Doble alongside Liltotto's The Glutton. As both are exhausted from this, Liltotto ask Nelliel if the Arrancar wishes to resume their earlier battle from in Hueco Mundo, but Nelliel assures the Quincy that as long as they stay out of Hueco Mundo, she has no quarrel with them. While Grimmjow objects to this, they are interrupted by the arrival of Nanao Ise, who informs all present that Captain-Commander Shunsui Kyōraku requests their presence.[11]

Sometime later, Nelliel alongside the other Arrancar, Fullbringers, and Quincy have gathered at Kūkaku Shiba's residence. As Yoruichi Shihōin explains the situation to Kūkaku, the tensions between the different groups are high, to which Kūkaku furiously exerts her Reiatsu and demands that everybody behave in her house, which earns her the respect of both Nelliel and Harribel, who note their surprise at Kūkaku's power despite not being a Shinigami.[12]

Powers & Abilities[]

Immense Spiritual Power: As the former third Espada, Nelliel has a grand amount of spiritual energy, powerful enough for her Fracción to sense it from a large distance.[13]

High Intellect: While in her original form, Nelliel is quite intelligent, possessing a great understanding of combat and its forms, and the methods behind an opponent's skill and intentions, as well as discerning personalities easily.[3]

Bala (虚弾 (バラ), bara; Spanish for "Bullet", Japanese for "Hollow Bullet"): Nelliel is able to fire Bala blasts from her hands. She used one to discipline Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez when the other Espada tried to antagonize Shunsui Kyōraku and Ichibē Hyōsube. The attack was potent enough to cause pain to Grimmjow.[3]

Cero Doble (重奏虚閃 (セロ・ドーブル), Sero Dōburu; Spanish for "Double Zero", Japanese for "Heavy Duet Hollow Flash"): Nelliel's speciality allows her to to absorb an incoming Cero and fire one of her own while returning it. Nelliel can even counter a Gran Rey Cero with this technique, although doing so did leave her winded and slightly injured.[14]

Descorrer (解空 (デスコレール), Desukorēru; Spanish for "Drawing Back/Opening", Japanese for "Loosed Void"):[15]: A technique used by Espada-level Arrancar, and sometimes others, to open a Garganta between the Human World and Hueco Mundo. Nelliel used this technique alongside Harribel to travel to the Rukongai in order to recover Grimmjow.[16]

Zanpakutō[]

Gamuza (羚騎士 (ガミューサ), Gamyūsa; Spanish for "Chamois", Japanese for "Antelope Knight"; Viz "Capricorn Knight"): Her Zanpakutō has a green sheath, a light green hilt, and a tsuba that resembles a pair of crescent moons joined together at the back.[17]

  • Resurrección: Its release command is "Declare" (謳え, utae; Viz "Praise"). In her released form, Nel takes the form of a brownish-green ibex-like centaur, complete with a black horse's tail. Her Hollow mask's horns become longer and more curved, framing the sides of her face, particularly the cheeks. The crack on her mask also closes up, although the missing teeth remain. Her shoulders are covered by white spaulders that come across her shoulder blade to her neck. She has white elbow guards and white gauntlets. The parts of her arm that aren't covered by armor are covered by a black material, which also covers her hands. There is a white ring at the base of her tail. Her sword is replaced with a double-sided lance.[18]
Resurrección Special Ability: The only attack she has used in this form so far is Lanzador Verde.
  • Lanzador Verde (翠の射槍 (ランサドール・ヴェルデ), ransadōru verude; Spanish for "Green Lancer," Japanese for "Kingfisher-Green Javelin"): Nel throws her lance at her opponent with extreme speed. As it travels through the air, it begins to spin and build up spiritual energy. When it reaches its target, it acts as a drill, inflicting extreme piercing damage.[19][20]
