Gabriel

Gabriel (受胎告知 (ガブリエール), gaburieru; Japanese for "Notice of Conception") is a technique used by Szayelaporro Granz in his Resurrección, Fornicarás.

Description[]

Szayelaporro can be reborn if he is injured beyond repair by "impregnating" an enemy. When he has physical contact with the victim (like his branches) that manages to pierce their umbilicus, he can implant a portion of himself inside their body in the form of an "egg". At this time said appendage can form a mouth to communicate with others outside his host body. Later, he "devours" his way out of their body by way of absorbing all the fluids and chemicals of the victim, killing them in the process, and redevelops his body in a matter of seconds from a liquid-like casing coming from the victim's mouth.^[1] Szayelaporro takes great pride in this ability, comparing it to that of a phoenix and pretentiously proclaiming himself a "perfect being" because of it. It was used on 12th Division Lieutenant Nemu Kurotsuchi, but despite Szayelaporro's remarks on it killing the victim, she survived.^[2]

Censorship[]

• Gabriel's usage in the manga has been significantly altered for the anime. Initially, Szayelaporro resurrected himself within Nemu’s body, but in the anime, it was completely redone. Instead of him laying his egg inside of her and emerging head first from her mouth, he is resurrected from an embryo that emerges from Nemu's mouth and develops into him. Also, Nemu does not end up looking as dried up or decrepit as she does in the manga.^[3][4]

Trivia[]

• In Ryōgo Narita's novel Bleach: Spirits Are Forever With You, it was mainly the development of Gabriel that allowed Szayelaporro to return to the ranks of the Espada after he was initially demoted for regressing to an Adjuchas by splitting Yylfordt Granz from himself.^[5]
