Critics Consensus

Content to let a very game Eddie Murphy bring all the heat, the fourth Beverly Hills Cop coasts on nostalgia but marks a welcome return for Axel Foley.

Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Walter Chaw Film Freak Central Alas, forty years have passed, but the series hasn’t gotten any braver. Just older. A lot older. Haven’t we all. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 13, 2024 Full Review Adam Olinger Adam Does Movies (YouTube) Can we please be done with the legacy hero coming back for 1 last ride schtick? Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is another one of those Netflix movies you put on and forget about 1/2 way through. Not awful but Foley deserved to retire. Jul 12, 2024 Full Review Karl Puschmann New Zealand Herald While the improv may be a little flabby compared to the razor sharp original, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is an entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable ride that can only be considered a successful return for both Murphy and the series. LivingDeadGirl G I was pleased to see that Eddie Murphy is still in top form. His acting remains as sharp and engaging as ever, truly a highlight of the film. However, the storyline left much to be desired. It was quite predictable, lacking the originality that made the earlier films so captivating. Despite this, the cast did a commendable job. There were some notable names who delivered strong performances. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the film’s climax. When Axel and Captain Grant come face to face, the scene concluded swiftly without the drawn-out, clichéd showdown that’s common in many action movies. This concise ending was a refreshing change of pace. Additionally, the use of music from the original film added a nostalgic touch that fans will appreciate. That said, I believe this is the end of the road for the Beverly Hills Cop franchise. Producing this movie was a gamble, and I’m not convinced it will pay off as intended. While it’s a decent movie and worth a one-time watch, it doesn’t offer enough to warrant multiple viewings. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review N. H Acting was terrible. First ever review because of how I wanted to enjoy it but stopped it half way through. Very cringe Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review zackshack Z This is a return to form. Heads above BHC3. Good plot, great support for Murphy and great action. So much so that this should have been in theatres. Loses points for a largely recycled soundtrack, but I guess it's there for the nostalgia. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review Harold H Wow -I expected much better from an Eddie Murphy sequel . This one starts out with such unrealistic and unbelievable stupidity , I just had to shut it off after twenty minutes or so ...the script is poorly written ...sad . Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review J L It was better than I thought it would be, but not as good as I wanted it to be. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/13/24 Full Review Robert A This was brilliant, best Beverly Hills Cop movie since the first one. Can’t wait for a sequel Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
