I just wanted to say that I really love the oil refinery/industry setting of Episode 2. I was not expecting it after Episode 1's vanilla techbase setting. I don't think I have ever seen it in a Doom wad before and it is quite amazing how you were able to create it with just a recoloured slime flat texture and a new skyline. Congratulations!

Awesome! I'm glad you like it! I am uploading another update right now, It's just a few minor edits (misaligned textures, added a little ammo, etc.) nothing major.

Cool!

Do you eventually plan on uploading the megawad to idgames? I know you have been banned from Doomworld, but from what I understand, the forum is not affiliated to idgames per se, so I do not think you need to be registered on Doomworld to upload wads on idgames:

I uploaded it to idgames today. It's awaiting approval.

So I ended up re-uploading the wad again here and on idgames. I found a goofy bug in E4M7 that I overlooked. It is corrected now.

Also, what are your thoughts on the ammo conservation? This wad was intended to be a bit tight on ammo/health to add to the challenge. I personally find that the chainsaw is a good go to in a lot of the maps and is very effective against cacodemons.

To tell the truth, I have been playing your megawad with my own collection of mods (including Craneo's genius recreation of the Shieldsaw from the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages), so I cannot really say. I guess I can always start a new vanilla run to test that out if you wish.

Oh I see, well only if you have time to. If not no worries. This wad tends to be a bit tight on ammo so it often needs the chainsaw and whatnot. It’s similar to deathless.

I appreciate it.

Oh, you know about Jimmy's Deathless? It is probably one of my favourite Ultimate Doom mapsets of all time!

Anyway, I went through E1M1 on UV no mods already. All good so far.

You have good taste 😎 it’s one of my favorites as well! I guess it all just depends on the player. I’ve had some people say it’s boring having to use the pistol so much lol. But the challenge is having to find the shotgun.

Also, I think with any mega wad doing each map pistol start is always going to be 10,000 times harder as far as ammo. Continuous runs always are easier as the player has collected ammo from previous maps.

Thanks again for doing that. As always, much appreciated.

Okay, I think I have found a significant vanilla issue in E1M9: on UV, the fight with the Spider Mastermind feels way harder than it should be. I normally use TehRealSalt's Alternate Take On Invisibility mod that makes the Invisibility Sphere make me actually invisible, so sneaking past the Spider Mastermind is not a problem, but in vanilla, that powerup is quite useless and the only way past the monster is to kill it. On continuous play and only if I grab the Rocket Launcher before going down the hedge maze area, I wasted all my ammo on the monster and I was lucky it was almost dead when I charged it with the chainsaw. I do not know if there is supposed to be a better approach, but my advice here would be to replace the Invisibility Sphere with an Invulnerability Sphere and/or to place the BFG right before the Spider Mastermind encounter.

I see what you’re saying. That fight is pretty epic. I agree. It was intended to be hide behind the hedge maze and shoot at it. I think I uploaded the wad on idgames way too soon haha. I’ve re uploaded it like 10 times now because I keep finding bugs like this and editing it. Thank you for the feedback. Only me and my
Son play tested it, so it probably has a ton of little quirks like this.

Awww, that is cute. But yeah, that is also what I did, after two failed attempts to run past the Spider Mastermind and making sure to pick the Rocket Launcher first on my third attempt. To be fair, though, it did not help that I used my shotgun against Demons: I guess I could have always saved shotgun shells by using the chainsaw on them instead.

That chainsaw is sometimes vital in this mega wad.. it works wonders on those cacodemon haha.

I have no doubt. Even though I did not like Doom 2016, that game got me to fundamentally rethink the way I play Classic Doom. As such, I have put together a mod collection that replaces all hitscanners with projectile-throwing enemies - that includes replacing former humans with imp variants, so they no longer drop ammo - and while I tried to compensate by replacing all health and armour pickups with clips and shells, respectively, and making the pistol not use ammo, melee weaponry is now playing a much greater role in combat. In that regard, Craneo's Shieldsaw proved to be a godsend!

This sounds like an interesting project, I would like to try it out! So like the chainsaw but probably much more effective :)

Like I said, it is a collection of mods for my personal use, not one neat package. I am just not very knowledgeable about zscript and dehacked, so the monster replacement is mostly done through MAPINFO... If I ever figure out how to do it probably, I would consider sharing it.
