CNN recently reported that Google's greenhouse gas emissions have soared 48% since 2019, due largely to the demands #AI systems place on data centers (https://bit.ly/3VULJXu). Artificial intelligence clearly presents some challenges to the energy grid, but it also holds the potential to accelerate the #cleanenergy transition. For an insightful discussion of the potential of AI to enhance grid energy demand optimization, grid reliability and an equitable clean energy transition, check out this thought piece by Nora Wang Esram of The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). https://lnkd.in/eDW7sY7v

Associate, Florida, U.S. Market Transformation & Development at the U.S. Green Building Council | LEED AP: BD+C | WELL AP | USGBC Faculty
Last Thursday, our team led the Florida LEED for Cities Leadership Series and Collaboration Workshop. The forum hosted roughly 100 sustainability and resilience leaders, local government representatives, teams from local #AEC firms, and those who have been through or are currently in the process of going through LEED for Cities certification. During the first half of the day, we heard from Marta Marello, Whit Remer, and Lori Forsman, as they discussed their experiences with LEED for Cities and how they have been able to apply their certification to their future sustainability plans. We also heard from Ashantae Green ♻️ and her work with City of Jacksonville, as the city launches into our 2024 LEED for Cities cohort. We were so fortunate to hear from City of Winter Park's Sustainability Manager, Sara Miller; Winter Park Chamber of Commerce's CEO and President, Betsy Gardner, IOM; and video presentations from City of Winter Park's Mayor Sheila DeCiccio and Vice Mayor Todd Weaver. From Orange County, we heard from Vice Mayor and Commissioner Nicole Wilson and a special video from Mayor Buddy Dyer. During the second portion of the day, we focused on collaboration amongst our attendees and discussing ways they can share their experiences working with LEED for Cities. Our Platinum sponsors, Green Loop, Jacobs, and VHB, along with U.S. Green Building Council staff, led breakout sessions highlighting popular subjects in local government such as decarbonization and resiliency planning. We hope that this full-day forum was informative for those in attendance, and that this information will aid in future certifications (and registrations!) under the LEED for Cities rating system. Thank you to our volunteers: Lisa SanFilippo, AIA, LEED Fellow, LFA, WELLAP, SITESAP, Diego Bello, Esteban Martinez, Amanda Josefa Polematidis, PE, CxA, LEED AP, GCP Faculty, Amy Ford And our USGBC staff who made this event possible: Carmen Rasnick, MBA, CNU-A, LEED AP, Hilari Varnadore, CC-P, Isabella Gross, Rhiannon Jacobsen, Jeff Benavides, Tara Bleakley, and Paul Wessel. Lastly, thank you to our sponsors: Green Loop, VHB, Jacobs, Turner Construction Company, Hanson Professional Services Inc. and our Series Sponsor, Bank of America! This was truly a great event, and thank you to all who took the time to attend and participate. U.S. Green Building Council - U.S. Market Insights

How are #REITs making strides in improving the #resiliency of their buildings, managing resources, mitigating financial risks, prioritizing people and incorporating #sustainability into business strategies? Nareit's 2024 REIT Industry Sustainability Report provides valuable insights into the REIT industry's commitment to the triple bottom line through practices that measure and aim to improve social, environmental and financial performance. Here are just a few key takeaways: - 100% of REITs publicly report on sustainability - 94% of REITs report on portfolio GHG emissions, and 73% have emissions targets - 76% report having LEED-certified buildings (that's more than double the percentage in 2018!) - 89% provide their board with an update on sustainability at least annually Check out report highlights here and request the full report: https://lnkd.in/ei_xAvwW
