Bringing people around the table since 1972.

About us

Sur La Table was founded in Seattle in 1972 by Shirley Collins, a woman with a passion for food and a fondness for community. Living in Seattle, she fell in love with Pike Place Market with its inspiring blend of products, artisans, and farmers. To her, it was a special gathering place for food lovers and culinary visionaries alike. When Shirley opened her first store in Pike Place Market, she was determined to assemble the best selection of cookware, gadgets, linens and books—even importing exclusive specialty items from France, her favorite culinary destination. Using the market as her inspiration, she thoughtfully filled her store with cooking tools that would bring people together in the kitchen and around the table. This sense of connection and love of French cuisine inspired the name Sur La Table, which simply means “on the table.” Since then we’ve grown to 56 stores across America, with the largest avocational cooking program in the U.S. But some things haven’t changed: We’re still the place for an unsurpassed selection of exclusive and premium-quality goods for the kitchen and table. We’re still passionate about cooking and entertaining, eager to share all we know. Whether the job entails interacting with our customers on a daily basis or providing the vital behind-the-scenes support, we’re all here for the same reason – to create happiness through cooking and sharing good food.

We are thrilled to announce that Neisha Adams has joined the Sur La Table family as the General Manager of our Bradley Fair store in Wichita, Kansas. Neisha brings a wealth of retail leadership experience and a passion for fostering strong team dynamics. When asked about her approach, she said: "For a successful team dynamic, I look for opportunities to catch team members doing something right! Congratulating them encourages continued development, and a genuine 'Thank You' at the end or throughout the day goes a long way." Her enthusiasm for cooking has been inspired by her husband Ben, who encouraged Neisha to explore new cuisines beyond her Kansas roots. She shared, "Growing up in Kansas we are not privy to a lot of seafood and through my husband Ben's encouragement I have become adventurous in my cooking and eating as well. Our new favorite dish is linguini with clams in a white wine sauce. In July I hope to tackle clams casino!" Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Neisha. We are excited to have her leadership guiding the Bradley Fair team and look forward to her creating exceptional customer experiences.

Celebrating AAPI Heritage: Meet Sur La Table's CFO Amy Chow As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are honored to spotlight Sur La Table's Chief Financial Officer, Amy Chow. Amy's journey exemplifies the perseverance and dedication of the AAPI community. Born and raised in Seattle by immigrant parents, Amy was immersed in diverse cuisines from a young age. From grocery shopping in the International District to embarking on Pacific Northwest road trips exploring new foods, cooking, and culinary exploration were ever-present.  "My parents are immigrants who came over with very few resources in the early 1970s. They set the example for me and my brother by just working hard every day to provide for us, which I think describes so many AAPI families who have left their native countries for a better life in the States," Amy reflects. Today, Amy resides in Seattle with her husband, two daughters, and beloved dog, Knox. Food remains the heartbeat of her family. "You've heard it before, but food is my family's love language. There will never be a situation where my family gets together without food as a focal point." Amy's career began in consulting and technology before she discovered her passion for retail at Gump's, a luxury retailer in San Francisco. "I wanted to pivot to a more 'fun' industry where I could apply my corporate finance experience," she says.  When a financial analyst role opened at her "dream company," Sur La Table, Amy jumped at the opportunity. Embracing a growth mindset, she voraciously learned from everyone around her and committed to continuously developing her skills. Her tenacity, expertise, and leadership were quickly recognized. After the company's purchase and transition under the CSC Family of Brands, Amy seized the chance to blaze a new trail as Chief Financial Officer.  "In my career, there have been instances where people have suggested that I lower my aspirations to protect me from disappointment. But I've learned the bigger disappointment comes from not even trying," Amy states resolutely. For Amy, AAPI Heritage Month means "recognizing the sacrifices that many immigrants, like my parents, have made to ensure the success of the next generation." We are grateful to Amy for sharing her inspiring story and for her exceptional leadership. Join us in celebrating the invaluable contributions of the AAPI community! This May, we're honored to spotlight Julian Plovnick, our talented Culinary Specialist, as part of Jewish American Heritage Month. Julian's passion for food and cooking has been a driving force throughout his life and career. Julian was born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, before earning his Master's in Gastronomy from Boston University. His culinary journey has taken him from working the line to food tech to recipe development roles and has worked with major brands like Delish and Marley Spoon. For Julian, Jewish Heritage Month is about celebrating traditions while reflecting on the value of tikkun olam - the Jewish concept of repairing the world through social justice. Food is quite literally Julian's life. Some of his most memorable moments have revolved around cooking, eating, and sharing meals with others. His best eating experience? A simple bowl of buttered white rice after being ill in Colombia - reminding him of food's restorative powers. At Sur La Table, Julian's favorite tool is the Flex-Core Mini Silicone Spatula for getting every last delicious bite. We're grateful to have him on our team, sharing his culinary talents and Jewish heritage with us. https://lnkd.in/gDkZ_cWe
