Celebrating AAPI Heritage: Meet Sur La Table's CFO Amy Chow
As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are honored to spotlight Sur La Table's Chief Financial Officer, Amy Chow. Amy's journey exemplifies the perseverance and dedication of the AAPI community.
Born and raised in Seattle by immigrant parents, Amy was immersed in diverse cuisines from a young age. From grocery shopping in the International District to embarking on Pacific Northwest road trips exploring new foods, cooking, and culinary exploration were ever-present.
"My parents are immigrants who came over with very few resources in the early 1970s. They set the example for me and my brother by just working hard every day to provide for us, which I think describes so many AAPI families who have left their native countries for a better life in the States," Amy reflects.
Today, Amy resides in Seattle with her husband, two daughters, and beloved dog, Knox. Food remains the heartbeat of her family. "You've heard it before, but food is my family's love language. There will never be a situation where my family gets together without food as a focal point."
Amy's career began in consulting and technology before she discovered her passion for retail at Gump's, a luxury retailer in San Francisco. "I wanted to pivot to a more 'fun' industry where I could apply my corporate finance experience," she says.
When a financial analyst role opened at her "dream company," Sur La Table, Amy jumped at the opportunity. Embracing a growth mindset, she voraciously learned from everyone around her and committed to continuously developing her skills. Her tenacity, expertise, and leadership were quickly recognized. After the company's purchase and transition under the CSC Family of Brands, Amy seized the chance to blaze a new trail as Chief Financial Officer.
"In my career, there have been instances where people have suggested that I lower my aspirations to protect me from disappointment. But I've learned the bigger disappointment comes from not even trying," Amy states resolutely.
For Amy, AAPI Heritage Month means "recognizing the sacrifices that many immigrants, like my parents, have made to ensure the success of the next generation."
We are grateful to Amy for sharing her inspiring story and for her exceptional leadership. Join us in celebrating the invaluable contributions of the AAPI community! Read more on Lid & Ladle below:
