An airport employee won over a customer for being “lovely and attentive” during a visit to one of PHX’s many shops. Flora N. is a customer associate with airport contractor CASA Unlimited, and during a recent visit a passenger got to experience Flora’s excellent customer service firsthand. “Flora was kind and gracious,” the passenger said in nominating Flora for recognition. “Because of her, I wanted to let you know that she made me feel welcome and appreciated.” We are happy to celebrate Flora’s kindness with everyone, so our On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.) did just that with an award. Do you have a story about awesome customer service from a Sky Harbor employee? Send the details to us at skyharbor@phoenix.gov.

This time last week we joined airport and industry partners, brands and competitors at The Airport F&B + Hospitality Conference & Awards (FAB) in Ontario, California, USA. It was inspiring to see some of our leaders take to the stage: David Mackay shared his thoughts about the impact of converging channels on the evolution of F&B; Bastiaan van Asten presented learnings from Avolta’s Sustainable Food Route partnership with Royal Schiphol Group; and Laura FitzRandolph provided fresh insights about effectively developing and retaining our people – a common challenge across the industry. Big congratulations to Walter Seib, who was recognized for his Outstanding Contribution to the Airport Food & Beverage Industry. We are immensely proud to see some of our team members recognized as FAB Superstars Awards Winners or Highly Commended recipients. Congratulations to Phạm Như Quân, Cigdem Baymaz, Ronan Casey, Pham Hai Yen and Tatiana Manganaro for their commitment. And congratulations also to the HMSHost back-of-house team at Denver International Airport and the JOE & THE JUICE team, Hudson, at Vancouver International Airport for their Star Team awards. Finally, we are honored to receive awards for our F&B concepts, including Bottega Prosecco Bar & Craft Beer at Zayed International Airport, UAE; Tiffin Center and Tiffin Express at Bangalore Airport, India; our Hello Customer initiative at Brussels Airport, Belgium; Snap at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, USA; and Plum Market Terminal A at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, USA. An airport worker turned a routine electric cart ride into a fun adventure for a young boy traveling with his great-grandmother. Malick K., a passenger assistant cart driver with airport contractor ABM, went out of his way to make the boy and his great-grandmother feel special. When Malick dicovered that a Major League Baseball pitcher is in their family, he told them to hop on his cart and started announcing, “VIPs coming through!” The boy’s mother was impressed by Malick’s enthusiasm: “How cute and fun is that? I just thought someone should know he is making your airport so friendly!" We appreciate Malick making a passenger’s trip a little more fun, so he has been recognized by Sky Harbor’s On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.) Tell us your story of a Sky Harbor employee who went above and beyond the customer service call of duty at skyharbor@phoenix.gov and we’ll make sure they get the recognition they deserve.

An airport contract worker who did his job extremely well made an impression on a traveler who needed some extra care. The traveler, an elderly woman flying for the first time since losing her husband last year, flew into Phoenix and was helped by Desean S., a passenger assistant with airport contractor Prospect. He assisted her with a wheelchair at the gate, helped get her baggage, then waited with her on the curb until her daughter could pick her up. “He did his job exceptionally well. He made her feel safe and taken care of in a large unfamiliar airport,” said her daughter in nominating him for recognition. “Please thank Desean for his exceptional service.” We appreciate Desean too, so he was recognized by our Customer Service On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.) Are you thankful for some awesome customer service from a Sky Harbor employee? Send the details to us at skyharbor@phoenix.gov.
