On behalf of the Airport Restaurant & Retail Association, I am honored to have helped Dermot Davitt and Martin Moodie organize this panel at the The Airport F&B + Hospitality Conference & Awards (FAB) last month. Moreover, we, as an industry, owe Martin and Dermot many thanks for sharing a spot on the FAB agenda. We tackled an important topic: our industry’s financial capability to continue to deliver the beautiful venues, great experiences, and exceptional service highlighted in other sessions of the conference and celebrated with the FAB awards. Restaurateurs have made great strides to enhance the passenger travel journey over the years. But, partially due to Covid, partially due to political pressures, partially due to our own successes, we have arrived at a crossroads and together must make a choice about our future, as well as the future we present to our customers. This panel only started the discussion. There is much left to talk about - and to do!
I offer sincere gratitude to my friends Deanna Zachrisson, CM, David Bisset, and Greg “GP” Plummer for illuminating the many challenges our industry faces. And thanks to Dermot for guiding our discussion.
I encourage you to have a look at the article on The Moodie Davitt Report linked below. Dermot's report of this panel offers much to ponder and discuss about our industry's collective future. I welcome the conversation.
A recommended insight-packed article for you here, as our President Dermot Davitt presents highlights from one of the outstanding sessions at the Airport Food & Beverage + Hospitality Conference last week.
The profitability of airport concessions in North America – and of the role that local, national and proprietary brands play in this – was the central theme.
Making excellent contributions were Paradies Lagardère Executive Vice President David Bisset, Concord Collective/Enjoy Repeat and Fly with Breeze CEO Greg “GP” Plummer, San Diego International Airport Director, Revenue Generation & Partnership Development Deanna and Airport Restaurant & Retail Association Executive Director Andrew Weddig.
