As expected, over-the-shoulder. Looks amazing. Didn't recognise Claire but hey, she looks good anyway. Quite hyped for this!

I can live with OTS, though I don't love the idea. Having both camera options would essentially double the game's value in my eyes. Oh well.

For me, the game design and level design is what is going to make or break this. I'm sick of the "Survival Horror Jr." that the Revelations games, Evil Within games, etc. have been peddling. It's got to feel like old-school Resident Evil. RE7 was...better in that regard than anything else recently, but this needs to nail it.

I know someone who seems to think that the fixed camera might be an unlockable or something. No idea...

I can live with the over the shoulder camera as long as they make the gameplay more difficult. That was always going to be the issue. Zombies die with one shot to the head, so there has to be some type of obstacle to make it harder to do that. The game is really dark, so that's a plus. The flashlight is actually necessary.

I cannot wait for this. It's finally happening!

The zombies actually look intimidating, they seem to attack in hordes, and the RPD looks gorgeous. From the second trailer it looks like we're getting the RE 3.5 camera. Tomorrow's gameplay footage will tell.

I hope we get another trailer that focuses on Claire later on.

Lol, I like how this is bringing back people who have been gone for years. So weird seeing some of these names. [face_tongue]

I know, right? [face_tongue]

Over the shoulder was inevitable. There was no way they were going back to fixed camera. That's fine.

Combat will probably be like the more recent games. A headshot doesn't have to mean a "head shot." I just hope they don't try to over complicated it with special moves, talent trees, so-on-and-so-forth.

Yeah. I mean, at the very least an Easter egg like Lost in Nightmares would be good enough for me. It feels like this game was absolutely (re)designed for OTS, but I'd love to give it multiple playthroughs with different camera perspectives if it was an option.

I just don't want hallways with a bunch of doors that lead nowhere and can't be opened, and being told exactly where I need to go next. The maze-like designs of classic RE maps is something that they need to get right, otherwise it's just Darkside Chronicles but not on-rails.

EDIT: Also, hopefully these are just normal, regular-ass zombies and not the loser fraud zombies from RE6 that tossed beer bottles around.

Is this the church from RE3?
You mean the clock tower? I'm not sure. You'd think that thing was supposed to be a clock, true, but why the hell would you end up there?

By the way, it's been confirmed that you can still do shit like you could in RE2 in regard to blowing off limbs and whatnot. [face_dancing]

That's pretty much what I'm expecting. RE2 was a short game so expanding the actual locations makes sense, especially with streamlining it down to two campaigns instead of four.

It looks pretty good. I agree that Claire looks younger, more like 16ish but maybe they did that to highlight that she's a teen. It does kinda suck that they didn't keep the original voice actors but it still seems like they are trying to be faithful to the source material.

Yes, this game reveal trailer did bring this boy back to the (RE) yard! [face_tongue]

Anyway ... this is looking to be pretty much what I always wanted. A darker, more survival horror-y version of RE2! OTS is not going to affect my enjoyment one way or the other. I guess what I'm mainly interested to see is how they cleaned up the story, or if they alter it in any way.

Is it me, or did I hear Ada Wong's voice in that first trailer?

I can't help but wonder if they are going to try and retcon some new, albeit tiny, pieces of info into the game here and there to better align with RE7 and whatever game comes after it. It seems Capcom is going in a new direction after that last game, and I just can't help but feel that this might be their opportunity to streamline the story more in order to set us up better for the sequel Biohazard game to come.

Hmmmm ... [face_thinking]

Yeah there's a good chance its an unlockable. They say " Classic RE modes are present" without going into detail. I bet one of them is a fixed option once you beat the game.

I know for a FACT they had a fixed option in there and didn't outright scrap it just in case they want to use it. My theory is they want the focus on their new OTS because they put the most effort into that and it's how they want people to play it. If FIXED is in there it'll be an unlockable most likely for oldschool fans and it'll be an unlockable because they don't want people to think it's as developed as the camera they put the most work into.

So yeah..... keep expectations down but we might all be surprised in the end. I do really like this OTS though cuz it has a bit of a CVX feel to it with panning out.

My mans Mr. X seems to either be giving birth out of his chest, or being impaled by Birkin's claws at the end there. I really hope it's the latter. I don't want to see X go out like that - becoming one of Birkin's baby mommas. Birkin vs Mr. X, however, is something I've always wanted to see, even if it's just X getting worked over by Birkin.

That map makes me happy.

I don't love the RE7 UI, but I think a lot of that can be turned off. Ideally, all of it. [face_tongue]

(Also, couldn't help but notice the cabinet with yellow tape on it asset that was ripped straight from RE7 as well!)

I think it looks pretty amazing. Especially love that they kept everything looking very much like it did in the original, only better, with a few expected modifications here and there. The characters looked... good enough, though the uncanny valley was creeping in there a bit (they got it right with Marvin though). It looks like the OTS camera will work out just fine, and i'm glad to see it hasn't turned it into an action-fest shoot 'em up (still hoping for a fixed camera option somewhere though). My only problem after seeing the game play footage is with all the button prompts popping up all over the screen-- am i really going to have to be told by an X how to open a door every single time? And did i really see a prompt telling me to "Return to the Main Hall"?! That kind of crap would get annoying after about 3 minutes, and it doesn't seem very 'classic RE'. Maybe it's just for the demo? Otherwise, so far it looks better than i expected, and i actually had pretty high hopes for this seeing how Capcom has treated Resident Evil since 6, especially the nice job they did with the remaster of REmake and 0. Hype Level: High.

I skimmed through a demo earlier, and I think I'm good and don't need to watch any more until it's out. They've sold me on it, completely. In all seriousness, the camera angle is probably the only thing from my REmake 2 wishlist that they don't appear to be delivering on (and hell, maybe they'll still deliver on that too). The things I was concerned about potentially being compromised appear to be faithful to the original, and in some cases look to be even better here. I'm genuinely impressed. I think they've hit on something here.

All Capcom has said is OTS, and has made no mention of fixed cameras. Some insiders claim that it will be in the game, possibly as an unlockable or an Easter egg, but nothing is confirmed either way. In any event, this game was clearly designed with OTS in mind.

Anyways, I'm going to assume they aren't in the game just so I can set my expectations accordingly.

No worries the lights won't stay off forever. There's a fuse box, and even rooms with light switches that can be turned on. I have a feeling there will be a moment when all power is restored.

Claire's model I totally see why some people have complaints she looks more designed after her CGI model in RE2 rather than what was adopted later on. For example:

resident-evil-2-is-the-game-that-proved-horror-didnt-have-to-be-humdrum-105-1439546860.jpg

Resident-Evil-2-Remake-E3-2018-Claire-Redfield.jpg

She's definitely pretty different though but I do like her design.

Leon is exactly how I envisioned him to look if done based on his original design but with the realism of modern tech. The models are crazy detailed.

The only complaint i have from what I've seen is i'm not really feeling the new OST. I'm glad they let you swap it when buying the deluxe edition.

This is probably my favorite. The zombies are so well done and they're modeled so you can really fuck their models up with weapons. This happened after shooting at the arm a couple times.

They're definitely the creepiest zombies we've had in this series or at least on level with Remake's level. Very well done.

Hey, Castledan, just wondering what you think about the overall look of the game. I remember you were quite set on a fixed camera and, especially, pre-rendered backgrounds, i believe because you thought they had a more 'cinematic' feel (which i agree with, even though i've been open to OTS as long as it's done right). Just curious. And cheers! It's been a while.

I still think pre-rendered backgrounds would be better for the game visually because you could then put even more detail into the models and it'd probably blow every game away by doing that. However it limits gameplay so I get why they didn't.

As far as fixed cameras I'm one of those people who firmly or at least 50/50 that they're in the game as an unlockable. When making the game they tried out various camera and even had the idea to have all three. I heard they never outright scrapped fixed incase they wanted to use it. So yeah I think they're saving it as a surprise down the line. They already said ink ribbons will be used, they have the original games soundtrack that can be swapped if you get a deluxe edition and i think it all comes together with fixed angles.

As far as what we have before us....I feel like this very well could be their best game yet if they stick the landing. It's a reimagining though so expect it to be pretty goddamn different but to me that just makes this project all the more exciting. Zombies are being handled right, they feel like genuine T-Virus zombies. The game doesn't feel like an ouright shooter and they already said you won't be suplexing or doing any crazy melee. They have the knife as a defensive item. There's more puzzles in this beginning area than RE2 EVER had....I'm pretty happy with what I'm seeing.

Did I mention zombies actually feel terrifying again?

Visuals are incredible.

As for the characters, I think they look just fine, until they talk. They look enough like younger versions (maybe too young?) of their former incarnations to fit into what's come before-- or what's to come-- while updating certain aspects for modern technology. It's when they talk that things start looking a bit uncanny valley, and a bit last gen. But for gameplay purposes, which is all i'm concerned about really, they get the job done perfectly well.

One other small complaint-- the menu/map/inventory system. I really haven't cared for it since 4. With 5 it all started looking more modern, with clean computer graphic looking lines and a very generic font. It worked ok for 5, because it was a more high-tech military operation, but with 7 and now 2 it just seems out of place and takes me out of the game a bit. The Revelations games were presented in the same way though, and i liked those quite a lot (especially 2), so it's not a deal breaker or anything. I just miss how everything looked aged, with the old looking maps, briefcases and typewriter font.

I think when we get to such realistic graphics it's hard to avoid that uncanny valley vibe. Hopefully next gen fully kills it off. lol I don't really get the last gen comments the mocap is probably the best they've done. Particularly the Leon and Marvin conversation from the demo. I didn't even realize it till recently but Leon was 21 in RE2 and Claire was 19 so they're actually quite young. I think Leon fits that age, Claire is a bit more debatable but ....passable as a 19 year old.

I agree on the inventory, i wish they didn't reuse RE7's because it's a pause screen so why not go out like the old games? It's still a very clean UI though so I guess it's not too big a deal. I love the map though, I think it looks really good and it's easy to follow.

Can't wait to see more regardless.

I was just referring to the facial animations, which look a bit stiff and unnatural to me, not quite up to the standards of other games this gen. Though, like i said earlier in the thread, i do agree that Marvin looks all around incredible.

I went back and looked at some of the older UIs, because i don't remember being as bothered by Revelation 2's UI as i did with 5,6 and 7's, and realized some things. Rev2's UI is a lot more colorful, with reds, yellows and oranges, not just clean white lines and text, and it actually looks pretty good even though it's more 'modern' looking. 5's is better than i remembered it-- they actually added some texture and detail to the 'box' system, the map looked decent, and the text had the distressed typewriter font, which i love. 6's looked like it was trying too hard to be cool, and 7's is just plain generic and boring-- white lines, white boxes, white text-- which is what the new 2 seems to be going with (though i suppose that could change before the final game releases). And it looks like the first appearance of arrows and Xs all over the screen telling you what to interact with before you're even anywhere near it, which i find very annoying, goes back to 6 (of course lol).

As for the overall look of the game, i love it. There seems to be a lot more color and texture to the environments (which i love about the first 3, and even REmake had in spite of it's more limited (yet still rich) color palette), whereas 7 looked, with all it's 'photorealism', very flat and washed out by comparison. Everything just seems a lot more vibrant in this new 2.
Can't wait to see more regardless.
So yeah, apart from all my obsessive UI complaints, the game is shaping up to be fantastic, and i too am really looking forward to seeing more. Capcom has not disappointed with this one.

Being the one you worship.

Keep hope alive!
