That 2017 was gonna bother me. Figured I'll leave this one without a year since we never use it up anyway.

So two weeks ago I was getting kinda optimistic about the team making some noise. Since then

-Boni suspended 80 games
-Mondesi and Bubba get hurt
-Duffy with arm issues
-Salvy out for probably two months.
-Karns hurt, will be in the pen when he returns, Skoglund to the rotation
-Kyle Zimmer cut

To even contend for the WC they needed everything to go right. Everything has gone wrong. It’s really kinda crushed my enthusiasm for today.

And they’re getting blown out by the White Sox. And this Blaine Boyer stooge made the team over Miguel Almonte and Kevin McCarthy for some fucking reason.

Jon Jay wears cool socks at least

Woof that was not a great look to start the season. And here I was laughing off the oddsmakers that had the Royals not much different than the Marlins and Tigers.

Well for 3 innings I was elated then reality set in. I haven’t given up on the season but the pitching is obviously the weak point this year so we no longer have to wonder. I think a fair assessment will have to wait until May but April will show us the trend.

Damn that trade with the Padres was a fleecing. It seemed like a good deal at the time but it’s one of those that you look back on and go damn.

I know at the beginning of the season I couldn’t imagine this team as bad as some of the 100 lost teams but they are making a believer out of me. Horrible just horrible.

Dayton has to nail these 4 top 50 picks. I think these are the make/break crop for his job (but obviously we won’t know for 3-4 years)

1. They need to fire Lonnie Goldberg. Ever since he took over scouting their draft picks have been horrendous. He is the #1 reason this team has absolutely nothing in the pipeline and no one worth a shit that’s pre-arb. Even Whit isn’t his.
https://www.royalsreview.com/2017/9/14/16304064/the-quiet-moment-that-changed-the-royals-future

2. Leave Grimm and Boyer in Canada. Waste of time.

3. Trade everyone in July worth anything. Duffy before his arm falls off. Kennedy if he looks legit. Moose and Kelvin will have the best value. Hammel, Duda, and Jay if anyone wants them. If you get the right deal for Whit and Junis then ship them too before they turn into pumpkins.

4. Keep Salvy. We need someone to Love.

Yeah I was using Dayton kind of as a synecdoche for his whole front office/PD dept.

The best part of re-signing Moose is that we’ll (ideally) get a solid arm prospect or two out of him. ~3 mil for 30+ HRs?

I would say they should keep Duffy to keep another leader in the clubhouse and in the rotation. Junis would probably pass him as ace after a year or two but meh. I also don’t think his value would be as high as you’d think.

I’m just ready for Ned to retire and Mitch Maier to take over

Better to be awful than mediocre though. Hopefully there is a potential superstar at the top of the 2019 draft and not Luke Hochevar

Damn we are not trying to tank and we still suck. Grimm looked okay a week or so ago, now he’s Maurer and Boyer.

Tim Hill looks good, Soler seems to be able to hit MLB pitching all of a sudden, Moose is killing it, and Juno’s seems solid. That’s my positives.

This is the way to tank. Keep enough assets to sell for some profit but have vital parts to the team’s success (bullpen, bottom of lineup) shaky enough to keep us out

Hopefully the trade market near the deadline is better than last year. To get a top prospect back they may need to package Moose and Kelvin.

Maurer/Grimm/Boyer - 16 IP, 32 H, 8 HR, 10 K, 16 BB, 19.13 ERA

Rest of Bullpen - 35 IP, 26 H, 1 HR, 32 K, 11 BB, 2.83 ERA

Tickets won't be hard to come by this year...

I'm really tempted to go out to the stadium for one of the games against the Brewers so I can see Cain, loved that guy.

Almonte looked a lot better this week and Paulo is looking horrible. I think it's time to move on from Paulo Orlando at the very least when Gordon is ready to come back. Some of the problems this year stem from their horrible defense to go along with their horrible offense. At least Gordon still has the defense.

Probably so, I think his speed and his 2015 (?) has blinded them on him. Of course there have not been a ton of prospects worth taking his spot. I suppose Dozier could have come up and played one of the corner fields which is what I'm expecting at some point this year.

Also Duda and Jay have come back to earth after their great start. Too early in the season to really extract anything useful other than the bullpen sucks, the offense is pretty bad (not much different that previous years), and our defense has went off a cliff.

Well we got a winning streak going at 2 games but I'm pretty sure that's going to come to a halt in Fenway. I haven't even looked at the matchups other than Hammel for the 1st game, but I'm assuming it's going to be rough.

Otherwise this weekend showed me there's frustration setting in with Perez showing up as the Fun police. The runners in scoring position stat is disheartening since they have plenty of chances to score some runs but consistently miss the chance. It reminds me of last April but a bit worse so we will have to see if there's a bounce back here in May to where we are playing .500 baseball.

So I had the game on when I was making dinner and Hammels let up the grand slam. 9-4, so I turned on some music, we had dinner, cleaned up, chilled afterwards. Forgot about the game so I checked espn.

Absolutely in shock to see they won. This team makes no sense.

He’s never going to be a thing. It sucks in so
many ways. He’s local. Biggest rookie deal in team history. They passed on Lindor. Instead of Lindor we have the worst baseball player in the league at SS. It’s a franchise altering series of events.

That’s pretty much been the story on all our drafts the past 6 years. I think Zimmer’s draft had some prospects that ended up being pretty damn good that we missed. The draft in baseball is a crap shoot and it’s buried our farm system. We need a new scouting director as well.

These past 6 games have been frustrating. We were on the path of mediocrity then we got knocked back down to trash. At least the White Sox are a little worse right now.

You know the sad thing about our record is that it’s been against bad teams. What is going to happen when we start playing more .500+ teams?

Why is Ryan Goins a thing. Why is he pinch hitting for Cuthbert. Remember when Alex Gordon was fixed.

I'm going tonight with Kennedy starting so there's a good chance I'll be leaving by the 7th inning. The good news is I get to see Dozier play and Whit will be in centerfield so I'll get to be near him.
