They made the game more friendly for casual game players with conviction to get more sales and were successful with it. Conviction isn't as bad and once you get past the surprise of how fast paced it is unlike old SC games, you'd start to enjoy the game.
I am a fan of the old slow SC games but i guess they decided to please the majority and attract more people than to please a small majority of its fans. I still play blacklist and conviction on the same stealth principle as old games but its far easier to do so than old games.
