I've seen a thread about why the rebels in Matrix not usually carry swords, but the thread is closed. I would like to argue why the rebels in Matrix would have to carry swords as a regular equipment coupled with firearms.

One can say that if the agents can dodge bullets, they too easily can dodge an sword, but this is only valid for normal human beings, not for rebels in Matrix. We know that the rebels can dodge bullets, so they could be trained to move a sword at similar speeds to a bullet, unlike a bullet, the speed only depends on the gun and not the shooter. Sword attack also tends to make a less traveled that a shot, giving less reaction time to the agent.

Hence the rebels in Matrix would have to carry swords as a regular equipment. And even they could be trained to repel bullets with their swords, as Jedi, and not just dodge and cover. Then if the rebels carry swords, then the agents would also carry swords to not be at a disadvantage, which would be used when they run out of ammo or in confined spaces. The problem is that agents with swords not fit to the world of Matrix based on the reality of the early twentieth century. What do think?
