What are Tarot Cards and How Do Visions Work
Tarot Cards are a unique collectible that can be found hidden throughout Hackett's Summer Camp. At the end of each chapter of the game, you'll visit Eliza, a fortune teller that ran the Harum Scarum Freakshow. During these visits, Eliza will review all Tarot Cards found during that particular chapter and will offer to provide short visions that correspond with each card in her crystal ball. It's worth noting Eliza will only read one Tarot Card per visit, so if you find multiple cards in one chapter, you'll have to choose just one to view.
The meaning behind these cryptic clues and vague warnings can change drastically, depending on the card you have found, but don't be fooled; these cards aren't always as they seem. What could appear to be a relatively harmless card could signify something much more sinister, such as a potential character death or even instructions on overcoming tough situations that can be deadly with the wrong choice.

The Fool
Chapter and Character: Prologue, Laura
When investigating the woods for the mysterious person, Laura will climb down a small ledge into what appears to be a dried-up creek. The camera perspective will change when taking the narrow path that leads left, allowing you to discover the card.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Fool… I wonder who this is? We all know a fool when we see one. Don’t we? Innocent and freedom? Or recklessness and risk-taking? Spontaneity… Actions without thought, but the consequences to match. Think. Think and don’t get burnt. | At the beginning of Chapter 2, Jacob makes the choice to mess with the van and has the option to either remove the Rotar Arm or break the fuel line. The vision depicts the outcome of breaking the fuel line. Should Jacob select this option, the van will catch on fire when Mr. Hackett attempts to start the vehicle. It’s important to note that while neither option will alter the overall story, it will prevent Jacob from uncovering a very brief talking point that is shown when the camera pans out in Chapter 3. |
Temperance
Chapter and Character: Chapter 1, Jacob
Upon entering the Lodge, enter the kitchen by the main door. When entering, the camera will shift and you’ll find the card on the side of some pots.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Temperance. To be balanced, to consume in moderation. Or to indulge in excess. Temperance. To take it or leave it… but remember sometimes, with temperance, comes deferred gratification. | A very tricky vision as you clearly see Jacob and some fireworks, but then there's an explosion with unclear victims. In Chapter 2, when looking for beer and provisions as Emma and Jacob, you'll have the chance to grab fireworks from a safe. If you do, in Chapter 6 you'll be able to protect Emma when being chased by a werewolf. When trapped by the beast, she'll throw a firework that she grabbed some moments ago. This way, Emma will escape the fight without any wounds. If you don't have the firework, the werewolf will bite and infect Emma, turning her into a beast for the later chapters. |
The Hanged Man
Chapter and Character: Chapter 2, Nick
Playing as Nick in Chapter 2, opt to take the Rocky Road with Abi. Follow the road ahead of you and don't veer off down the "falling rocks" path to your right. As you continue down the standard route, the camera will cut to the Hanged Man tarot card perched on the rocks above.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Hanged Man! To be the hanged man is to surrender... and by doing so gain a new perspective. So look carefully, and consider that sometimes, one needs to be strung up, in order to be let go. | In Chapter 3, Jacob will fall into a trap and end up hanging in the air. Bobby will get near him, and you will have different decisions to make. Don't be hostile against Bobby, don't throw dirt on him, and accept his blood. Jacob will then escape without any problem and the blood on his face will work as a repellent for werewolves. |
The Star
Chapter and Character: Chapter 3, Jacob
After gaining control of Jacob at the Boathouse in Chapter 3 - Trouble in Paradise, you’ll be tasked with finding some towels.
When leaving the dock, head towards the stack of nearby canoes. When nearing them, the camera angle will change and you’ll spot The Star Tarot Card on the side of the wooden post.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Oh, it’s The Star. Stars. In the night sky. Beacons of light. Dreams of hope, purpose… or a reminder of our insignificance, fear of despair. Trust in the light of the star, with it comes clarity, and sometimes proof. | In Chapter 4 - Don’t Panic, Emma will explore the Island alone while recording a video series for her followers. The vision depicts a scene that occurs when Emma reaches the Treehouse. After heading inside, Emma will have two options, search the bag or open the trapdoor. When opening the trapdoor, Emma will be startled by the mysterious creature and will ultimately die. Instead, if Emma searches the bag, she’ll find a change of clothes, some bear spray, and a taser. Thinking there’s something on the top floor, Emma will open the trapdoor and will come face to face with the creature. When using the taser, Emma will have time to snap a quick photo and escape the treehouse unharmed. |
The Tower
Chapter and Character: Chapter 3, Abigail
When playing as Abigail at the start of Chapter 3 - Trouble in Paradise, follow the path through the woods until she begins to hear voices. Then, following the short cutscene, continue a short distance forward and the camera angle will change for a moment, here, you will find The Tower Tarot Card, high up on the trunk of the tree.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Tower. Jump free of your troubles. Fight or flight. That’s the question we all ask ourselves… but often when leaping out of danger, we’re still faced with certain peril. Watch your step, it could be your last. | In Chapter 4, Emma will be in a tower facing a werewolf. She has the chance to reel quickly a zipline and then use it, or choose to test her luck by falling into the water below. The vision indicates that Emma will fail if she decides to take the zipline, but this isn't true. If you reeled it, this will be your perfect escape route. If not, Emma will be attacked by the werewolf. |
Strength
Chapter and Character: Chapter 4, Dylan
When entering the lodge, the camera will shift and you’ll have a quick moment to grab the card before it’s too late.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Strength. Strength can be surprising. Knowing one's own raw power. Tapping into a previously unknown energy. I suppose there are forces at work within us all... and with one hand it gives, and with the other it could rip away. | This vision hints at Nick incapacitating Bobby Hackett, which can actually happen. In Chapter 5, when Nick and Abi are escaping from Bobby, you'll have the chance to hide and have a "don't breath" section. However, even if you do it correctly, Bobby will grab Abi. Fortunately, Nick can save Abi by completing some QTEs. The boy, already infected with werewolf blood, will have unexpected strength. You'll be able to choke Bobby and let him unconscious; allowing Nick and Abigail's escape. |
The Magician
Chapter and Character: Chapter 4, Emma
When first playing as Emma on The Island, return down the set of stairs that lead to the dock. When near the edge, the camera will pan and you’ll find the card on one of the poles of the dock.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Magician! The incredible, the unbelievable, The mystical, sensational!... Perceptive manipulation - the work of a magician. Now you see it. Now you don't. Blink and you miss it. And you wouldn't want to miss it. | When working on his radio device in Chapter 5, Dylan will be attacked by a werewolf. The vision from the card shows Ryan using a chainsaw to cut Dylan's arm... and that's exactly what you should do if you want to avoid Dylan getting infected. This way, he'll be able to help the rest of the characters in the next chapters. |
The Devil
Chapter and Character: Chapter 5, Dylan
When searching the grounds near the Camp Cabins, you’ll discover The Devil Tarot Card when nearing the picnic tables in the middle of the cabins.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Devil. Without restriction, like a shadow torn from one's corporeal form. Pay close attention and act before the demon's unleashed. Each of us have one, even those who are pure of heart and say their prayers by night. | The vision shows a brief scene in which Nick seems to cut Abigail's head. In Chapter 6, after Laura meets the group, Nick is feeling weak due to his wounds and being pushed into the water. He'll try to make Abigail get closer to him, but you should avoid this in order to protect her. Select the angry choice and shoot at Nick when he turns into a werewolf. Both characters (and the rest of the group) will remain alive. |
The Hermit
Chapter and Character: Chapter 5, Dylan
Upon reaching the Radio Hut, have Dylan explore the left side of the building. When nearing the large aerial tower, the camera will pan and you’ll discover the card at the base of the tower leg.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Here we have The Hermit. With the hermit comes isolation, loneliness... but reflection, too. Perhaps, given some thought, the hermit who gives chase can guide you to safety. But that all depends on your actions, not his. | After the initial free roam and exploration in Chapter 6, Jacob will try to escape from a werewolf hunting him. Whether you chose to hide or run, in one particular moment our protagonist will get panicked due to some gunshots and fall right into a bear trap. One of his feet will be trapped, and you can choose to pull it or try to open the trap. If you select the former, Jacob will fall and his head will end up in a second bear trap, provoking him an instant death. To save Jacob, you need to open the trap. However, after you successfully do it, the old man Jedediah will appear and capture our protagonist. The next time we see Jacob, he'll be inside a cell. |
Justice
Chapter and Character: Chapter 6, Jacob
After traveling the wooden bridge, take the stairs back down to the ground below and proceed to turn left, where the camera will then change perspective. Here you will find the card on the back of a wooden beam that belongs to the walking bridge.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Justice... An eye for an eye. Not exactly, in some cases... but cause and effect. Actions and consequences. There's a balance to everything, and we all play a part in making sure the scales aren't tipped. | The vision shows Laura struggling with someone and shooting that person. The victim is Travis, and this scene can happen in Chapter 7. During one of the last interactions between these two characters, Laura is on the floor, screaming because of her pain. Travis will open the cell and try to help her. If you haven't picked up the sedatives when you were exploring the station and hidden them since then, a QTE pointing at Travis' gun will take place. Whether you fail it or not, Laura will end up shooting Travis. She won't kill him, but Travis will hate her, blocking you from the ending in which they work together. |
The Moon
Chapter and Character: Chapter 6, Abigail
When exploring the bathroom, enter the middle shower and watch as the camera pans down and you’ll find the card on the doorframe.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Moon. How poignant. Tonight of all nights. To harness your fear and anxiety... and turn them into intuition. If you can do this, and plan ahead - your cunning might just save your life. | This is basically the other possible path that Justice's vision doesn't show you. In Chapter 7, Travis will leave the station while Laura watches Max turn into a werewolf. After this, Laura will be able to freely explore the station. She can find a needle with a sedative, which she can then hide near a brick in one of her walls (you need to have interacted with the brick earlier in the chapter). If you've hidden it successfully, when Travis enters the cell to aid you, you'll be able to sedate him. Like in the other possible scenario, Laura and Max will escape together, leaving Travis locked, but with the key difference that Travis won't hate Laura for this. This way, you'll have the chance to have Laura and Travis working together by the end. |
The Chariot
Chapter and Character: Chapter 7, Laura
After being scratched by Max, make your way into the main office area of the police station. When walking between the middle desks, the camera will pan and you’ll find the card on a beam.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Chariot! At the reins of a chariot, we would all feel safer. Taking control, relying on determination to make our choices. Valiant.. but in some cases foolish. Many seek refuge in chariots, but perhaps, in some cases, they're not as safe as we think they are. | In Chapter 8, while playing as Kaitlyn, you'll return to the van from the beginning with Dylan and Abigail. Our protagonists will hear some noises from inside the van, and Dylan will open the door. A werewolf will come out, and you'll have two choices: run or shoot. You need to select shoot because otherwise, the beast will go directly to Abigail, killing her in the process. If you shoot it, it will then face Kaitlyn and Dylan, but you can defend these characters by shooting it again. |
The World
Chapter and Character: Chapter 7, Laura
When exploring Laura’s cell, head towards the jail door, and watch as the camera pans. Here, you’ll find the card beneath the bed.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Ah, The World... Often travelers' paths are direct. But sometimes, it is not so simple. Sometimes they're intertwined with others. Compassion over anger. You'll need friends where you're going. It is not until we fall into the belly of the beast that we realize how perilous things can be. | At the beginning of Chapter 8, Ryan and Laura are going to where they think Chris is passing the night. However, they'll start an argument and, depending on your choices, one or both will fall to an underground region. However, whether Ryan is the one that falls or not, it doesn't matter. His partner will follow him, and they will explore the next area together while starting to know more about each other. |
The Empress
Chapter and Character: Chapter 8, Laura
When entering the Hackett Basement as Ryan, head into the room left of the wooden barrels. You’ll uncover The Empress card when nearing the nearby chair and table that’s not too far from the doorway.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Empress. Look at her. Those at the top can fall the hardest. Such a shame - to nurture little monsters only to live long enough to watch them kill you. But it's no less than she deserves. | Another deceiving vision. This one shows Constance being killed by a werewolf, but this can't happen. The only way to kill this character is in Chapter 9 while controlling Laura. In this chapter, Laura will be surrounded by Constance, Jedediah, and Travis. Soon enough, Bobby will also appear, grabbing Ryan. Constance and Laura will argue until the old lady tries to take the shotgun from our protagonist. A QTE will pop out. If you complete it successfully, Laura will accidentally shoot Constance, killing her automatically. This is the only way to kill this member of the Hackett family. |
The Lovers
Chapter and Character: Chapter 8, Laura
Not long after the scene in which the railing breaks in the Quarry Mine, Laura will come across a small enclave connected to the catwalk.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Lovers. There's harmony in disagreement, brought to light only by sparks of passion. Blood flows from the heart. You can almost taste it. And tasting it could save someone's life. | After being stabbed by Bobby and losing lots of blood in Chapter 9, Ryan will have the chance to survive and become a werewolf. To do so, you need to do exactly what the vision shows: let Laura bite Ryan. If you accept this, Ryan will have the chance to survive through the rest of the game. If you refuse Laura's offering, Ryan will bleed out later in the chapter. While confronting Chris Hackett as a werewolf and Laura fighting Travis in her beast form, you can kill Chris with a shotgun. Saving both Travis and Laura. However, Ryan will die after that. |
Wheel of Fortune
Chapter and Character: Chapter 8, Laura
Traveling through the Quarry Mine, you’ll reach an area that is described as the nightmare tunnel. You’ll encounter the Wheel of Fortune card on the wall when traveling through the tunnel.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Wheel of Fortune. After all, fortune is nothing but a spinning wheel. Sometimes you have to take a chance. Karma works in mysterious ways, but it favors those who pay attention. Watch closely. Though the wheel spins, the eagle-eyed can tell where it's going to stop. | This vision will show you a possible outcome of the last scene in Chapter 9. After finding Chris Hackett in his werewolf form, both Laura and Ryan will end up in a complex situation with him, Bobby, and Travis. Chris will kill Bobby if he was stabbed by Ryan earlier in the chapter, and Laura will turn into a werewolf and be about to kill Travis. However, after Bobby is dead, Ryan will be able to pick a shotgun and shoot Chris, killing him in the process. Doing this will lift Laura's curse and avoid her from killing Travis. If you don't shoot Chris, Laura will kill Travis. |
The Emperor
Chapter and Character: Chapter 8, Ryan
Upon entering the Hackett Basement, continue forward through the path that leads past the wooden barrels. You’ll discover The Emperor card when nearing the end of the path.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Emperor. Authority, paternity... Structures designed to topple, no? How the mighty may fall, and their empires with them. Let them bleed. Let them rip each other apart. Let them rot. | This vision is deceiving because it shows Jedediah being killed by a werewolf. However, this is not how his possible death plays out. In Chapter 9, if you killed Constance, you'll end up alone in a room with the old man. Jedediah will shoot Laura, but because he doesn't have silver bullets, he won't kill her. If you correctly pass some QTEs, you'll knock down Jedediah. Then, a choice will be available: attack or run. If you attack, Laura will kill the old man using her special strength. However, and even when teased during the scene, she will never turn into a werewolf. If you decide to run, you'll spare Jedediah's life. |
Death
Chapter and Character: Chapter 9, Ryan
In Chapter 9, after hiding inside the dumbwaiter, Ryan will find himself in a bedroom. Head towards the center of the room, beside the black bird cage, and you’ll find the Death Card sitting on top of the wardrobe. Note, in order to trigger this card, you may have to investigate the wardrobe before this card can appear.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Death. Death takes many forms... it could mean change, transition, transformation... often interpreted as a beacon for the hopeful. In your case, it just means death. | A vision showing Kaitlyn falling to her death. In Chapter 1, Kaitlyn and Dylan (if he's still alive) will face a werewolf. Suddenly, you'll have to make a choice: run or shoot. If you select to use your weapon, you'll have a very brief period of time to actually hit the monster. If you waste your seconds or if you miss, the werewolf will attack you. If Dylan is alive, he's the one who will die. If only Kaitlyn remains, this will be her last moment. On the other hand, if you succeed or if you just chose "run", Kaitlyn will move to another room, climbing some stairs. Here, you have the choice to go through a window or walk over a beam. If you pick the latter and fail in the QTE, Kaitlyn will fall and die. |
The Sun
Chapter and Character: Chapter 9, Laura
Playing as Laura in Chapter 9, take the stairs by the piano up to the second floor, follow the path left, across the balcony, and into an empty room. When nearing the closest window, the camera will pan and you’ll find The Sun card on the outside of the window.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
The Sun. The vitality of a new day. There's still time to wake up to the warmth of a night survived. Your choices, your actions... Your very life hangs in the balance. It's up to you to find your path in the darkness, and see the sun rise once again. | This isn't a particularly revealing vision in itself. It shows Jacob's face being illuminated by what could be considered the sun. This is one of the possible outcomes that this character can have if he wasn't infected, if he was infected but you lift the curse, or if he just didn't die along the way. It's worth mentioning that his ending can also include Emma if she's alive. |
Judgement
Chapter and Character: Chapter 9, Dylan
Upon pressing the switch that opens the gate to the mainyard of the Scrapyard, enter through the gates and take the path left, and head through the two passageways made out of buses.
Once you come across a staircase, climb up and it will lead you to the top of some shipping containers.
As you walk across the shipping containers, you’ll encounter the Judgement card.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Judgement. Judgement day is upon us! That's what you'd expect from this card, isn't it? Though perhaps in this case it's simpler than that. Perhaps one's own judgement, a snap decision to make, can save them from their own personal day of reckoning. Every step matters, every decision tipping the balance one way or the other. Take your time. Think. And may survive. | This situation needs a good amount of events and decisions to play out. Firstly, in Chapter 1, you should have chosen to break into the lodge when playing as Abigail and Emma. Once Abi is inside, you can find a teddy bear and keep it in your backpack. Then, in Chapter 5, Abi will leave her bag after confronting Bobby Hackett. Next, you should do everything we mention in the Death outcome while being alone with Kaitlyn (Dylan must be dead). After going through the beam, run with Kaitlyn and she'll hide in a kitchen. Complete a "don't breath" section and she will find the teddy bear nearby. Select "freezer" and throw the teddy bear there, using it as a decoy. If you follow all these steps, you'll lock the werewolf and save Kaitlyn. In fact, this is the only way to save her in this scene when Dylan is dead. |
The Hierophant
Chapter and Character: Chapter 9, Abigail
Playing as Abi, head towards the Storm Shelter stairs. When nearing them, the camera will pan and you’ll discover The Hierophant card. This card will trigger a unique cutscene with Eliza.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
My poor boy. Do you see what they did to us? How they hurt us? He's out there still. All alone. Each full moon they hunt him, armed with silver. Trying to put an end to a curse they inflicted upon themselves when they set my show ablaze six years ago. Stupid children. But little Silas. My little white wolf. He must be protected. Do you understand? Remember how I've helped you all this time. | When collecting this card and reaching Eliza's scene, you'll automatically see a flashback of her. The circus where Silas, her son, was a member, was burnt down by the Hacketts. Silas ended up dying because of this, and her mother too. This scene shows that Eliza is in fact a vengeful spirit because she gives you the visions as a way to protect you (well, not always in a clear way) and help you kill the Hacketts. |
The High Priestess
Chapter and Character: Chapter 10, Kaitlyn
When exploring the lodge as Kaitlyn in Chapter 10, take the stairs by the bedroom with the bunk beds up to the third floor -- this is located directly above the kitchen.
On this floor, head left towards the windows and watch as the camera pans towards the roof, where you’ll find The High Priestess card on a beam.
Tarot Card Description | Card Vision and Outcome Explained |
---|---|
Eliza was killed in the fire that broke out at her traveling show six years ago. Her ghost roams the woods of Hackett's Quarry ever since, and she's been determined to get revenge on the Hackett family for what they did to her. Her tarot cards, once lost in the blaze, have allowed her to guide you through the night... though her motives may not have been as transparent as first thought. | This card doesn't have a vision. |
