The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is a co-op-oriented game for the Nintendo 3DS. Tri Force Heroes allows three players to cooperate on solving puzzles, beating bosses, and completing levels. Using download play, only one player needs a copy of the game to play.
Story
Once upon a time there was a kingdom called Hytopia. At the heart of this fashion-obsessed land was the lovely Princess Styla. The people adored their fair princess... but the Drablands witch despised the girl's unbearable cute fashion sense.
One fateful day, a beautifully wrapped gift arrived at the castle. The sender was unknown, and the box was brimming with an aura of mystery. The princess simply had to open it! Naturally, this was a HUGE mistake. When the smoke cleared, Styla was met with a terrible sight, followed by the witch's voice in her pretty head: "A perfect outfit for a perfect princess." This cursed outfit of ultimate ugliness could not be removed no matter how the princess tried. Humiliated, she fell into misery and isolation.
The people of Hytopia wept for her terrible fate. The king, too, was in agony. As only chosen heroes may enter the witch's domain, the despicable Drablands, King Tuft issued a call to kingdoms near and far for a hero to save the day. Luckily, it wasn't long before this courageous young fella came passing through...
Multiplayer
Triforce Heroes offers local and online multiplayer for three cooperating players. Multiplayer can only be played with three players simultaneously in all three modes: local (players own cartridges), download play, and online. You cannot mix and match modes. Players can communicate with a numer of customized emoticons activated via the touch screen, band together using new totem mechanics to boost powers, and coordinate to solve puzzles.
Hearts are shared between all three players. One heart will be lost when taking damage or falling off the edge of the map. If all hearts are lost, one life will be taken from the team. An area will be cleared once all three players step on the Triforce gateway at the end.
Players can stack atop one another, creating totems designed to solve dungeon puzzles. These totem mechanics are essential to overcoming some of the game's challenges.
Costumes
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes features a number of changeable Costumes that allow players to customize character abilities. A group of heroes equipped with one set of outfits might be forced to tackle a dungeon or puzzle in a different way than a group wearing different outfits.
Outfits are created from collected Material. High-level outfits can be created by clearing dungeons and defeating bosses, but even better loot can be found in The Coliseum.
The Coliseum
The Coliseum is a brand new competitive battle mode available in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. This mode can be played locally or online. The two options are 1 vs 1 or a Free-For-All against two other players (1 vs 1 vs 1).
The combatants fight in a small arena where the environment may change depending on the stage. The goal is to inflict the most damage possible within the time frame. The player that received the least amount of damage within the time limit will be the winner.
A number of highly useful items will be placed around the Coliseum in this battle mode. Pick them up to increase your chance of survival. Certain materials will be needed to create beneficial outfits in Tri Force Heroes. Many high-leveled items can be found in-game, but some of the best items are found in this PvP mode.
