Outlast- Know All Guide
Hey, you've made it! Let me be the first to give you a congrats on making it to the know all, be all guide for Outlast. This guide will first provide you will all the collectibles for this game. Which is all the notes and documents and then after I give you those, I'll give you tips on how to survive the hardest parts of the game. If you're looking for either collectibles or a guide on how not to die, everything is below. These are the methods that worked best for me when I beat insane difficulty.
First up, the collectibles.. getting all these notes and documents below will give you the gold trophy PULITZER. There are a total of eight chapters in Outlast and are collectibles in every chapter.
1st CHAPTER: Administration Block
1st note (whistleblower): This one you cannot miss because Miles will automatically grab it before he leaves out of the car.
1st note (Mount Massive Asylum): After you exit your car, you will walk through a gate and after doing this the game will prompt you to raise your camcorder. After doing this aim it at the asylum and pick up your first note.
2nd document (Project Walrider Patient Status For William Hope): After entering the asylum you will have to squeeze through to proceed the story. Once you do this walk all to the second door on the left, the document is on the desk in there.
2nd note (I'm Inside): Moving on after this the next note will be in the library (the room with severed heads). After you walk in this room you will see a soilder impaled and he'll reach out to you. Once he does this take your camcorder and start recording him talk.
3rd document (Warrant For Seizure): Awhile, after this you will enter a cutscene where Chris Walker (the big guy) throws you out of the window. After this cutscene, you will be in front of a desk. Go behind this desk and you will see a hunched over dead guard, in front of him will be your document.
4th document (Project Walrider Patient Status report for Chris Walker): Once you find out you have to search for a key for the security room, you will have to enter a filing room. This is the room with all the computers, once entering this room you will enter another little room and once you enter this room the document will be to the right in the dark.
3rd note (Broken Men And Dead Television): Leave the room that you got the document in and once you leave turn left. You'll know you're on the right path if you see a guy in a wheelchair. Once you do keep walking foward and there will be a room with men sitting down, watching TV. Record this and the note will be yours.
4th note (The witness): After picking up the key and heading to the security room you will see a bathroom in the same hallway that the security room is in. It'll be the first door on your left, open up the middle stall with the guy on the toilet. Take out your camcorder, record this and pick up that note.
5th document (Project Walrider Profibility Report): Leave this room and pass the door that is labeled the security room. After doing this, go all the way down and you'll see an open door at the end of the hall on your left. Look in that room and pick up the document on that table.
5th note (Big Fucking Guy): After going into the security room and after the father cutting off the power, hide in the locker. Make sure you have your camera pointed at the door, once Chris Walker busts through. Doing so will pick up that note.
6th document (MKULTRA CIA Hypnotic Homicide): After he breaks in you have to run down the stairs and through the basement, after you do squeeze through depending which way you entered to the right or behind will be a document on that desk.
2nd CHAPTER: Prison Block
6th note (Father Martin's Cell): Once you wake up after Father Martin says "You can't leave", you'll wake up in a cell, record this cell to pick up the note.
7th note (Necromatic): Once you leave the cell, there will be a door on the floor that you need to enter to for the story to progress. When you open this door you will see a hole in the wall. After squeezing through this hole, go to your left and after doing this you will need to jump up. There will be two guys on this floor, one has a straight jacket on and the other one is behind him on the floor. This guy on the floor is humping a dead body. Record him and get that note.
7th document ( Father Martin, Finger Painter): Soon after this you will enter a gold chamber that will decontaminate you and spray you down with green smoke. After this you will have to walk up flights of stairs. After you see a red arrow on the wall proceed going up and you will see a guy scaling the wall that says "down the drain". Go to the left of him down the hall and you'll see the document on a desk at the end of the hall.
8th document (Purge Gate Maintenance Memo): A little bit foward you are going to have to climb out of a window. Once you do this, strafe right and climb up into the window. After doing this turn left and climb over the broken window. Once you climb into the window, turn right and you'll see a dead guard. Right in front of this guard is a document on the desk.
8th note (Total Security): Exit out of this room from the way that you came in by jumping out of that window, and continue down the hall until you see a dark hallway on your first left. Proceed down this hallway, but make sure that you have you camera up and ready to record. On the floor beneath you, it will be Chris Walker ripping a security guards head off. Record this and it'll count as a note collection.
9th document (Dr Wernicke Death Certificate): After going outside the window again, in the rain you will be forced to strafe along the outside of the building. Once you get back inside and open a door you will see a hallway leading straight and a hallway leading to the right. In front of you will be a mop bucket, proceed down the right of the hall. After passing a jailcell door, turn left and enter into what appears to be a torture room. To the right, once entering this room is your document.
10th document (Dr Wernicke Obituary): Once you enter the three story jail block and walk along the edge of the wall, where the guy is talking about the dead performing an experiment on the living. You will then have to make a jump, normally proceeding up the stairs to your right will go through with the story, instead enter the jail cell to your left. There will be a guy hiding underneath his bed, on his desk is a document.
9th note (Walrider): Getting access to the 3rd floor you will have to go through a cell with a blood trail and an open hole. Drop in this hole, after dropping down, turn to your right and you will see the word "Walrider" written on the bloody showers. Take out your camera and record this for the next note.
3rd CHAPTER: Sewers
11th document (The Gospel of Sand): After crouching down and exiting your first tunnel, you'll orignally look to the right to squeeze through a gap and meet Chris Walker. Before squeezing through this gap instead of turning right, go straight and then a left. This will make you loop around to the back. If you have done this correctly, then you will see a broken ladder on the ground. Next to this broken ladder wil be your document.
10th note (The Doctor is Dead): After you turn off the valves, you'll go down a ladder and then you will go up another ladder. This will make you exit the lower sewers part. Once you go up this ladder you will have to go right and then straight. Once you do this, you will see Father Martin down the tunnel with a flashlight. After seeing this, go into the door on your left, there should be a guy standing up that says "you don't have to be afraid of me." Take out your camcorder and record him to pick up your note.
12th document (Still Bleeding): Once you get down into the sewers or the flooded part of the basement, and you drop down, you'll drop in water. Once going up some stairs go to the right and you'll see a dead guy slouched over the rail. Then you will be forced to drop into the water. Your exit which is a tunnel, will be to the left of you. You know you're going the right way if something drops into the water. Keep walking and instead of turning to your left to exit through the tunnel, continue straight and there will be a ledge that you can jump on with a catwalk. Jump up on this ledge, continue straight, make a right, then you should see a cracked open door. Make a left to enter this door and there will be a stool on the floor, a dead guy sitting down, and then right next to the dead guy will be your document.
11th note (A Feast For Flies): At the end of the chapter you will have to squeeze through a gap that will put you directly beneath a sign that says male ward. Instead of going up the stairs to your right to enter the male ward, continue down the hall, peak into that room with your camcorder and pick up that note.
4th CHAPTER: Male Ward
12th note (Organized Torture): After you move your first case of propane tanks, and after entering your first crawlspace in this chapter, you will see a guy sitting on a chair in a straight jacket. Once you exit this room you'll have to go right to continue the story. Instead of doing this, turn left in the dark hallway and in this dark hallway there will be door on your left. Enter that door and you will see some words on the wall, saying "Fingers first, then balls, then tongue." Turn on your nightvision to see this, record it and pick up your note.
13th document (Project Walrider Cost Report): Proceeding a little bit, you will enter another crawl space and once you get up you will be in a medical bay. This is a room where you have to jump into the vent, but before doing this go all the way down in this room, to your right and on that table will be a docment waiting for you to pick it up.
13th note (Dr Rick Trager): After the cutscene with Trager, you will get up and exit the door. After doing this you will see an exit sign, that's where the Doctor will eventually end up busting through. You will end up in a room with one of his patients, he will ask "is somebody there?" Once you find him, you need to film Trager killing the patient. After the patient starts yelling for Trager, make sure you hide underneath a bed where you can see the patient. Once Trager busts through the door and you're hiding, take out your camera and record the Doctor killing this guy on the bed.
14th document (Request for Reassignment): After escaping the Doctor for the second time and entering your second air duct, continure down this shaft and once you drop out there will be a bathroom in front of you. Open up the right stall and there will be a document sitting on top of a cart.
14th note (Death of Trager): Getting in the elevator will trigger a cutscene where Trager tries to catch you. After he dies and is hanging there, take out your camera inside the elevator and record the dead doctor.
15th document (Presecutorial Delusions): A little further, after meeting with Father Martin again, he will tell you "Thank god you survived and to meet him outside." You will have to go through a locker room to go on with the story. Once you open up your first door to the locker room, you wll see a guard lying on the floor. If you continue down this way there will be a document behind the bench in a corner.
15th note (Let It Burn): After, you will enter a burning cafeteria. Once you do, you will see a guy sitting down saying he had to burn it. Take out your camera and record him for another note.
16th document (Pyscopathological Proximity Stress Disorder Pamphlet): Once the objective pops up that says you need to turn off the sprinklers, head out of the cafeteria. Instead of squeezing through the gap that you need to go through, make a right down a dark hallway. Take this all the way until you enter a room with three offices. Once you enter the biggest office there, the document will be to your left. There will also be a dead guard next to this document.
16th note (Fingers): After turning on the sprinklers, you will have to go back through the cafeteria and you will enter a kitchen. After the jumpscare, go around to the left and enter another room. Once you do this there will be fingers in a bowl in that room, record these to get that note.
5th CHAPTER: Courtyard
17th document (MKULTRA Program Excerpt): Before leaving to the actual courtyard itself, enter to the room on your right. After going in here, look for the note on the desk.
18th document (Our Own Personal Calvary): Now it's time to go out into the courtyard. Once you do this, continue straight until you bump into a fountain. Now you're going to still go straight, but a little bit to the left and once you do, you will see a light with stairs underneath. After you walk up the first flight of stairs you will see a document there, lying in a pool of blood.
17th note (The Thing in the Dark): After getting the key for the maintenance shed, go to that shed and enter it. After opening the door with the key you just got, go right. Now make sure you have you camera up already with the nightvision on. Once you have it up, open up the other door and when you do the Walrider will charge at you and hit you. Once you have filmed this, your note will pop up.
18th note (Don't Drink the Water): At the end of the chapter where you meet Chris Walker again, you will need to squeeze through a hole. After squeezing through this hole you will continue until you see a fountain of blood. This will be right outside of the Female Ward entry. After you see this fountain, pick up your camcorder and record it.
5th CHAPTER: Female Ward
19th note (The Sound in the Machine): At the start of the chapter where you hear Father Martin talking to you make your way up to the laundry room. After squeezing through the gap and after you crouch through the opening for the laundry room you will hear a washing machine clunking. Film this and you'll have that note.
19th document (Walrider and Nightmares): After exiting the laundry room and instead of turning left, turn right and continue down a long hallway. Once your at the end, you will see stairs. Underneath these is the first document for the Female Ward.
20th note (No Safe Place): After you pick up this document, continue down the hallway, all the way and turn left. When you do, you're going to enter a room with a checkered pattern floor, with a wheelchair in the middle of it. Once you are in this room, to the left of the wheelchair is an elevator. Crouch down and turn on your nightvision. You should see a dead guy in the elevator sitting down, record this and get your note.
20th document (Project Paperclip Except): From here, there will be stairs leading down into the basement, follow these. After doing this, the document will be on a desk on the left corner once you enter. Be careful because there will be a guy in the corner and if you get too close to, him he will hit you. Preping your camcorder with nightvision in advance should let you see him.
21st document (You Promised Me a Rose Garden): After putting in the fuses for the chute and after getting the key for the third floor, proceed up to the third floor. Once you do this, you will come along a wall where you have to shimmy across. Beneath you will see a guy pacing back and forth. After jumping across onto that floor, after the floor crumbles, and after climbing back up you will enter a room. This room will have a red arrow pointing to it. After you go into this room the document will be on the far left corner on a flipped over matress.
21st note (Lies): Exit this room or proceed with the story and once you do, you will see the Walrider or the ghost path to the right. Follow the ghost and then make a left at the end of the hall. After doing this you will see a room with candles. Go in that room and record the word lies. Once you do this you'll pick up that note.
7th CHAPTER: Return to the Administration Ward
22nd document (Billy's Dreams): When you see Chris Walker at the end of the hallway, open the door on your left and jump into the vent. Once your are inside the vent, you're supposed to go straight where the dead body is. But instead turn on your nightvision and there should be another vent that turns right inside the one that runs straight. Continue down the vent and once you drop down you will see the document on the desk.
23rd document (The Spirit Breach): After this, jump back into the vent and when you do this, push the body back out of the vent. Once you drop down, you will go left instead of going right. After doing this you will enter the library and at the right corner of this room, will be a document on this table.
22nd note (The Wernicke Exit Interview): Progressing on with the story, you will have to enter a theatre. Once you enter this, a movie will start playing. Record this for your next note.
24th document (Necrotizing Fasciitis): After recording this interview, turn around and you will see the exit sign. Heading towards the exit sign, you wil see a cracked open door on your left. Once you enter this room on your left, there will be another door. Open up this door and you will see a light at the end of the hall. Head all the way down the hall in the lighted room. Once you are in this room, the document will be in the back right corner of the room.
23rd note (Static Prayer): Progressing in the story and gaining access to the 3rd floor, you will enter a room with a man staring out of a rainy window. Go through the door on your left, which will be the only door you can exit this room from. After doing this, continue down the hall and on the first room on your right you will see a room with a pool table. In this room if you look around will be a guy knelt over, praying in front of a static TV. Record this and you'll get that note.
25th document (The Gospel of Judas): In the next long hallway, look for the room B329. In this room will be the document. Make sure you get this before you exit out out of the window because if you do, you will not be able to pick up this collectible anymore.
24th note (The Passion of Father Martin): The next collectible will simply be that you need to film Father Martin being burnt alive. Once you film this, you should get that note.
8th CHAPTER: Underground Lab
25th note (Under the Mountain): As soon as you enter the first room, take out your camcorder and record this.
26th document (The Pride of Wisdom): In this room, behind the counter will be a document. Walk around there and pick up that collectible.
27th document (Variant Postmortem): After exiting this room you'll have to walk down a long hallway. At the end of this hall will be doors, open these up, and on the second room to your left will be the document on a sink.
26th note (Morpogenic Formula): Exit this room, turn left, turn right and walk through doors. Continue down this hall and on the first entrance to your right will be where you need to go to get this note. On the left, will be what appears to be a desert with an army vehicle. Going into this room, there will be a formula on the board. Take out your camcorder and record this board to get your note.
27th note (Death of the Soldier): After setting the alarm off and being chased by the Walrider you will need to run all the way down the hall and out of doors. Once you open these, Chris Walker will bust through, once he does he will get killed by the ghost. This one is non-missable because Miles will automatically take out his camcorder.
28th document (Gods and Monsters): After getting chased by Billy and after getting out of the deconamination chamber, turn right. Continue down this way, and you'll see a dead guard on the desk, underneath his hand is a document.
28th note (Wernicke's Machine): Continuing with the story, exit this room and go the way you are supposed to. After doing this there will be doors that open up slowly, take out your camera and record the sphere machine.
29th note (Billy's Hope): The next two, which is a note and a document are next to each other. Walk down out of this room and you will see Billy hooked up the machine, record him.
29th document (Morphogenic Engine Chamber Precautions): To the right will be a document.
30th note (Life Support): Leaving this room to cut off Billy's life support you will go through doors and see cylinders that look like they are filled with water. Record these as soon as you enter the room.
30th document (The Modern Prometheus): In the same room, walk up the stairs and you will see some offices. Enter this office and on the desk with the blue computers will be a document.
31st document (Permission to Proceed): Once you reach the decontamination chamber again, go up stairs and on the desk will be a document.
31st note (Death of Hope): After fighting with the Walrider mid-air and after you fall, you will see the objective, "get out" pop on your screen. Once you see this, you will also see Billy's bubble full of blood. Record his bubble and get this note.
