Comment System FAQ
Welcome to the IGN Comments FAQ! Here you’ll find a list of (you guessed it) frequently asked questions regarding the IGN comment system and community.
I don’t have a MyIGN account. How do I comment?
Easy! creating a MyIGN account is super easy, and quick, too. Click here, enter a username, email address, password, and then you’re a few clicks away from joining the discussion.
Someone made a comment that’s offensive. What do I do?
Flag it by hitting the "Report" link next to the comment! Our team of moderators will be combing over all of the flagged comments in our Moderation Queue and approving or deleting comments containing questionable content. You can flag a comment or a user name. Please us the latter only to report an inappropriate username.
I try to post a comment, but I'm told it's pending moderator approval? What's going on? One of two things could be going on:
- You posted several negative or inappropriate comments, antagonized others, got repeatedly flagged by other users and had your comments deleted by moderators. This influenced your "karma" rating in the IGN community. When your karma is low, your comments require moderator approval before appearing on the site. Complaints and posting more negative stuff won't work -- it'll just decrease your karma more. Instead, contribute positively and be a valuable member of the community and before long, your comments will appear on the site without moderation again. Moderators cannot override bad karma. It's entirely up to you to demonstrate that you can contribute positively.
- Occasionally, we set a comment section to "premoderation." That means every post that's made goes into a moderation queue and gets human eyes on it before being displayed. This is a last-ditch measure we take when an article is overrun by spammers or attacked by a high volume of inappropriate content (whether in text or image form). This is usually a temporary measure. Comments that are respectful and don't violate our TOS are approved, but there may be a delay before they appear.
I think I've been banned from commenting on IGN. How do I get unbanned?
Uh-oh. It must've been something you said... In the case of a temporary ban, you can rejoin the discussion as soon as the time is up. If the ban was permanent, you can state your case by emailing bans@ign.com. Let moderators know your user name and what you think happened (and why you should be unbanned). Everyone can have a bad day and we believe in second chances (unless the infraction was serious).
Will you add more features to comments?
Yes! We are working on notifications for mobile devices and other features to be revealed and released in the future.
Thank you for participating!
