Where to Find the Aether Compass
With every Final Fantasy XIV expansion, there might be a few tools you need to brush the dust off of in order to discover new additions to the game. Dawntrail is no different. This expansion has 10 Aether Currents you need to find in each zone, meaning you need the Aether Compass to find them.
Not only is the Aether Compass something that you've likely not touched since Endwalker came out, but Square Enix moved its location last expansion, meaning many players are left scratching their heads trying to figure out where the Aether Compass is hiding.
How to find the Aether Compass in FFXIV
The Aether Compass is now found in the Collection menu, instead of the Key Items menu where it used to live. To access that menu, click the Duty button, which is marked with an exclamation point, and the Collection menu is listed second. Selecting it will bring up a list of items that are used for various functions or events.
To make the Aether Compass easier to access, you can drag the icon for it to your hotbar, and bind it to any key, or simply click on it to activate it. This will make it far easier to use in a pinch, especially if you are traveling in the direction of an Aether Current and need a quick directional queue without having to go through numerous menus to use it.
How to use the Aether Compass in FFXIV
To use the Aether Compass, all you need to do is click on it. Once you've done that, it will bring up flashing text across the screen that gives you a direction and a distance for where the closest Aether Current is. You can use the compass while you are mounted or running, making it easy to do a quick check if you're going in the right direction, especially once you get close.
There are 10 Aether Currents to find with the compass in each Dawntrail zone in addition to the five quests that award them. Find all 15 and you'll be able to fly in that zone. Once you complete the task in all six new zones, you'll won't be stuck on the ground until the next expansion.
