Level 70 Gathering & Crafting Tips
So you've reached the max level of your crafting and gathering classes, and you're wondering what to do? Well we have some info below to hopefully help answer that question and maybe maybe you some gil along the way!
Gathering
Once you reach max level as a gatherer, there is precious little for you to do right now. Until Yellow Scrips are added, you have very few choices when it comes to end game content. With that said, there are still some basic things you can do, like earn money!
Collect Red Scrips
Red Scrips are a form of currency that you earn by turning in Collectible items in Idyllshire or Rhalgr's Reach. You can then use these to purchase various items, most importantly are the Tomes of Folklore. These are special books that allow the Gathering classes to unlock special nodes in different zones. To get all the books, it will take several thousand Red Scrips, so it's good to start on that as early as possible!
Earn Gil
The obvious thing to do is earn some gil! There are several ways to do it, depending on your gear and level of patience. If you haven't got the best gear, you can simply farm up lots and lots of ore and basic crafting materials. Level 70 ore and lumber goes for a decent price in bulk and several of the level 65+ fish are selling quite well due to their inclusion in high level cooking recipes. It's not going to earn you buckets of cash, but it's a great way to spend some time relaxing and earning a few dollars.
For those with max level gear, you can attempt to farm Folklore nodes, which offer better harvesting materials or you can try collecting Aethersand from the Ephemeral Nodes. This is done by harvesting the items as Collectible, then breaking it down via Aetherical Reduction. The only problem with this process is it requires you to hit 500+ collectability and even then has some RNG elements so you might not always strike rich.
Crafting
Once you reach max level on a crafter, you will have a slightly clearer idea of what to do, since crafters are always needed for something. Certain ones are currently in higher demand, like Culinarian for their food creation, but once the Yellow Scrips arrive, it's likely that all crafters will see a boost.
Collect Red Scrips
Just like a Gatherer, Crafters can farm Red Scrips and purchase items with them. What you will want to purchase depends on your class of course, but it's always good to have some Red Scrips ready to go.
Craft Level 70 Tools/Weapons
One thing that is always in demand, is level 70 main hand weapons. This is particularly true for your fellow Gathering and Crafting classes. Just like yourself, everyone else is hitting level 70 and needs gear, so if you're the appropriate class, look up what level 70 items you can make and see if any of them are main hand weapons. If yes, there's a good chance you can make some gil crafting them!
Desynthesis
Although not technically the same, we're lumping this in due to it being listed under the Crafting category. Desynthesis is an often overlooked skill. It allows you to break down items into their base ingredients, sometime rewarding special items not obtainable otherwise.
Desynthesis is often an expensive process. Since you have to break down items, it means you need a lot of items, which often leads you to buying hundreds of items from the Market Board. If you're vigilant however, you can reach the max level and Desynth all the latest Stormblood items. These new items will often drop level 70 crafted materials, some of which will sell for 10k+ gil.
Right now, due to the prevalence of earrings and rings, we always suggest Goldsmith Desynthesis as the best one to start. Dungeons are always dropping rings and earrings that people won't want, so it's easy money for you!
