How to Get to Belurat, Tower Settlement
Excellent news for those looking to get started right away, Belurat is actually located very close to the start of the DLC.
Start by heading northeast of the site of grace towards the Map Stele which you can see marked on your blank map. Grab the Map - Gravesite Plain, then open the map and you will be able to see Belurat to the northwest.
Follow the road north to where it splits four ways, then go west through the tunnel to reach the Main Gate Cross site of grace.
Go up the stairs near the grace and open the giant stone door at the top. Inside you will encounter a new enemy, a giant spider scorpion. Thankfully these guys aren’t quite as powerful as the crabs and lobsters from the base game, but they can still pack a punch with their claw strikes and acid projectile. Your best is to go right in with a powerful jump attack to stagger the spider scorpion and kill it before it can get any attacks started.
Go into the room behind the giant spider scorpion and you will see an altar with an item on it, as well as a group of smaller scorpion enemies. These guys can be dispatched with a couple of quick attacks, just be careful not to let them surround you because their little jab damage will add up.
The item on the altar is a Revered Spirit Ash. These are another new upgrade currency that boosts the power of your Spirit Ash summons.
Behind the altar you can find a Shadow Realm Rune 1. Go up the stairs by the altar to encounter another giant spider scorpion, this one guarding a Fireproof Dried Liver.
Go through the door on this level and up the stairs. About halfway up there is another giant spider scorpion waiting to ambush you from the right. Defeat it then keep going up the stairs, grabbing the Black Pyrefly x5 off the stairs along the way.
Go through the door at the top to get outside. Go up the stairs ahead of you to reach Belurat, Tower Settlement and the first area site of grace.
If you haven't already, seek out the Crosses of Miquella in Gravesite Plain, as well as the two found in the Church of Consolation.
Belurat, Tower Settlement Walkthrough
Behind the site of grace is a small room with two shadow undead. We will encounter a lot of these guys throughout Belurat, these basic ones can’t do much and die to just a few hits. We can’t use the door here, but we can still grab the Neutralizing Boluses from the corner before we leave.
Next, follow the path right of the stairs. This leads to a plaza where a handful of shadows are gathered around a fountain. Be ready for an ambush from a new larger shadow enemy with a cleaver, who will try to jump attack you as you approach. This variant is much tankier and deals bigger damage, but are susceptible to backstabs and staggers due to their lack of armor. Grab the Stimulating Boluses from next to the fountain.
There is a second large shadow hiding behind the waterfall to the left, secretly guarding the item in the shallow water. Bait him out, dodge his jump attack, then lay into him with a charge attack or backstab. Defeat him then grab the Knot Resin x3 off the ground.
When you are ready to proceed, go up the stairs behind the fountain. As you step onto the street, two shadows on a bridge above you will start casting spells at you. Additionally, a large shadow will step out from the alley ahead of you. I recommend leading the large shadow out of range of the spells and defeating him.
Next, you can run up the street and get under the bridge the casters are standing on the get out of their line of sight. Here you will encounter another large shadow along with some basic ones. Continue up the road where two more large shadows are waiting to jump you. Handle this encounter very carefully to avoid getting ambushed, and also look out for the spellcasters who can see you on the opposite side of the bridge. Grab the Black Pyrefly x3 from the end of the street before leaving.
Go through the door on the left side of the street. Inside is a small room with a couple of basic shadows. Kill them all, then be sure to grab the item hidden among the pots in the back corner, a Silver Horn Tender.
Go up the stairs to find the Small Private Altar site of grace. Activate it but don't rest yet! We are just about done clearing this area, then we can loot it freely.
Go through the door by the grace then go immediately left (there is a dangerous enemy to the right so be careful). Here you will find the casters who were bothering us earlier, who you can easily slay with a couple quick attacks. At the end of the bridge is a locked door, we will come back with a key later on.
From this spot you can jump over the balcony and onto the rooftops of the street below. Go left to the wall, then right and go forward. You will see an item on another rooftop in the distance. Go forward and you will see a ledge you can use to cross and reach the item, a Somber Smithing Stone 4.
Go back to the bridge and jump onto the rooftops on the opposite side instead where you will find a Silver Horn Tender.
Drop down and head over to the side street. Here you will find a resting large shadow and an item, Messmerfire Grease. This is a more powerful version of Fire Grease.
At the opposite end of the street is another fountain where four shadows are praying. Kill them and grab the item they are guarding, a Somber Smithing Stone 3.
Near the fountain is a ladder that leads down into a deep well. Make your way to the bottom where you will encounter a few basic shadows and find another Messmerfire Grease. Again, there is a locked door here we cannot yet access. Keep it in mind for later. Return to the site of grace.
Small Private Altar
If you have any buffs like Golden Vow or Flame, Grant Me Strength use them then go through the door and up the stairs to the right of the grace. You will immediately encounter a powerful Horned Warrior.
This enemy wields two large swords and swings them around wildly in long combos. He also seems to craftily delay his attacks to try and bait out some panic rolls. Watch his movements carefully and only dodge when you see him start his swing, or put up your shield and be careful not to run out of stamina.
He can even be a problem at range, as the Horned Warrior has the ability to charge up his swords and stab them into the ground, causing horns to erupt all around you!
Your opening to attack is at the end of his combos, or if you can get behind him. The easiest attack to punish is his kick, which he telegraphs by lifting his foot. After a short delay he dashes forward with the kick. Dodge out of the way and you can follow up with a big attack while he regains his stance. Thankfully the grace is right here, so if we die we just try again.
From here we are immediately going into another challenging encounter. Go down the stairs to the right and into the ruins below. There are a handful of shadow enemies waiting here, be sure to kill them all before you proceed.
Go through the giant doorway at the end of the street. You will see a large plaza with a tree in the middle. As soon as you step into this area you will hear a voice address you, and then be invaded by Fire Knight Queelign.
This powerful foe has long range attacks, loves to use jump attacks to dodge, and can cast a delayed homing fireball. He can also charge his weapon up with flames and execute a devastating two hit weapon art that deals big fire damage.
However he is also a humanoid so I say just use whatever tricks you have. Buff up with Golden Vow or an equivalent, strafe around and fish for backstabs, run away and use spells, abuse bleed and stagger. If you want to fight him straight up try and stay out of his range at all times and only approach during the backswing of his attacks.
Wait for him to overcommit to a combo or jumping attack, then counter with one of your own. Defeat him to get the Crusade Insignia talisman, which raises attack power after beating an enemy - perfect for getting a damage boost by clearing the weaker Shadow Undead in this area.
Once Queelign is gone you can grab the rest of the loot in the area, including Dewgem x5, Black Pyrefly x3, and the grand prize the Ash of War - Shriek of Sorrow at the base of the tree. There is also some rubble you can climb in the front left corner, with Arrow x10 at the top.
Return to the previous area. Climb onto the buildings to the left where you will find two items, Black Pyrefly x2 and Thin Beast Bones x4. At the top of the rubble you will see an alleyway below.
Drop down and make your way to the end where you will encounter a group of shadows, including some large shadows. They can be extra dangerous in this small area, so be careful not to let yourself get backed into a corner.
Here you will find an item, Redflesh Mushroom x3, in the dirty water. Go down to the other end of the street where the water spills off the ledge. Here is another large shadow but be careful because two more shadows are going to pop out from the door to the right and ambush. Grab the String x4 off the waterfall ledge.
Go through the aforementioned door on the right side. Go up the ladder in the room and grab the item at the top, the Storeroom Key, before going through the door. Go down the stairs to the left and kill the large shadow at the bottom. Grab the item hanging off the broken bridge, Throwing Dagger x3.
As you go back up the stairs you will notice an accessible red awning on the building next to the stairs. Hop onto this awning and use it to get onto the bridge connecting the two buildings here. There is an item on the bridge, Whiteflesh Mushroom x4.
Go into the room at the other end of the bridge where you will encounter two shadows and another key, the Well Depths Key.
Return to the stairs from before and go up this time. The path here splits two ways, start by going left. Go down the stairs, then down the stairs again to find an elevator. Ride it down, which creates a shortcut back to the first site of grace.
Go back up the elevator. You will immediately encounter a group of small spider scorpion enemies crowding the alleyway ahead. This leads us to a much larger room, want to guess what's inside? That's right, two giant spider scorpions.
One is the same type we battled before and can be dispatched with 3-4 attacks. However the other larger one is much tankier and stronger. He has a quick claw strike combo, can spit acid from his tail, and will strafe around while lashing out with powerful claw slams.
If you don’t feel like dealing with them directly, you can just leave the room. They will get stuck in the doorway trying to chase you and you can freely attack them with spells or long range weapons. Once both are defeated you can grab the item in the back of the room, the Bone Bow.
Exit the room and step back into the alley. You will notice a pile of rubble to the right of the doorway. Climb up and over it and you will find a door on the other side.
There is a man-fly enemy waiting to ambush as soon as you step inside so be ready to dodge. These enemies are a little tougher than the shadows, but are still easily dispatched with a light attack combo. However they are a threat in groups, and there are 3-4 of them waiting in this room.
Their main punching attack is very slow, so back away and wait for it to miss before going in and killing them off. Just look out for their jumping grab attack which will deal significant damage if they get their hands on you.
Go up the stairs and grab the Thin Beast Bones x4 off the corpse in the back right corner of the room, then go through the door in the back left.
Here we will find another Miquella Cross and another Scadutree Fragment. Exit via the door to the right which leads to a ledge with an altar on it.
Inside the altar you will find the Dried Bouquet Talisman, which raises attack power after your summoned spirit dies.
Unfortunately from here the only way through is down into the drainage channel. There isn’t much of note here, just a bunch of man-flies. Just like before, try and take them on in groups of 1-2 at most. Once all the enemies are dead you can grab all the minor loot, Stanching Boluses, Dewgem x4, Fireproof Dried Liver, Redflesh Mushroom x4.
Make your way to the opposite end of the drainage channel where there is a door to get out. You will see a ladder in the back of this room, and of course there is a man-fly waiting to ambush as you approach.
Deal with him, then climb the ladder. At the top are two large shadows, be careful not to get overwhelmed by their attacks in this small space.
This spits us out a little ways deeper into the dungeon, which means we missed a small section. Warp back to the first site of grace and take the shortcut elevator up. Make your way back to the splitting path from earlier, and this time go right.
Hop onto the rooftops to the right where you will immediately encounter gravebird enemies. These guys are very annoying, if they get airborne they will strike at you rapidly making it difficult to get an attack off, let alone land one. Your best bet is to get the drop on them with a good jumping attack and kill them before they can start flying, or use a ranged attack. Ranged hits that connect while they fly will also drop them to ground immediately, leaving them stunned for follow up attacks.
Kill the bird on the roof, as well as the second one that drops from above, then grab the Flight Pinion x4.
Cross over the top of the bridge to get onto the adjacent roof. The bird here is facing away, which lets you get a free sneak attack off. However another will join the fight as you approach, so I recommend taking that one on first before you alert the unaware one. Once both are dead, grab the item sitting nearby, a Smithing Stone 2. If you didn't grab the Well Depths Key earlier, there's a spot to drop off the roof here and into the room below where the key is located.
Hop off the roof and onto the street above. Directly ahead you will see a shadow enemy with a jar on its head. These special shadows are sort of like Teardrop Scarabs, they run away when you approach and drop a special item when killed, usually a Scadutree Fragment or Revered Spirit Ash. This one drops a Revered Spirit Ash and Golden Horn Tender.
At the other end of this bridge is the area we were before after escaping the drainage channel. Here we will encounter another horned warrior, so be prepared for a potentially tough encounter to get to the other side this time.
Once the warrior is defeated, go down the street to the left. Keep your eye on the left side of the street and you will see a shadow and an item, Black Pyrefly x4, sitting on a ledge.
Keep going up the street and you will reach this plaza where a bunch of shadows are praying to a statue. There is a mix of large shadows, spellcasters, and basic shadows here. Once you attack one they will all get aggressive. The best approach is to kill the spellcasters first to avoid their range attacks, then run away to break the group up and kill them off one by one.
Once they are all defeated, return to the plaza and loot the Revered Spirit Ash from the foot of the altar.
Go past the plaza and up the stairs into the tower. We are back in the scorpion tower, but above them this time. Go right and grab the Warming Stone x3 off the broken ledge. Then go left of the door and ascend the stairs.
Here we will encounter a very strong, very aggressive Curseblade Ascetic enemy. It is worth noting that the final site of grace is right behind this enemy, so if you don’t want to take any risks you can do your best to run past it and activate the grace, then go back and fight it after.
As stated before the Curseblade is very aggressive and almost never stops attacking unless its to cooldown after a big attack. It can execute a number of jump slash attacks, as well as a jumping grab that deals a lot of damage if you get caught. It can also fire off throwing knives to deal damage from afar. The worst attack of all is probably the spinning slash combo, which goes on for 6-8 attacks and can easily shred you.
Your best bet is to create a little distance and wait out one of the Curseblade's big jumping slam attacks, or the jumping grab. Dodging either of these leaves the omen open for a counter attack. Just be sure to back off immediately to avoid getting stuck in the blender afterwards.
Return to the Stagefront site of grace, which sits just outside a giant arena. On the other side is the area boss, but we have some cleanup to do first - unless you want to Skip to the Boss Fight.
Return to the Small Private Altar site of grace and make your way back to that locked door on the other side of the bridge where we battled the caster shadows. Use the Storeroom Key to open the door and head inside.
There's actually nothing in this room, at least item wise. Speak to the Hornsent Grandam sitting on the altar in the back of the room. She will taunt you a little bit, daring you to kill her, as she assumes you are part of Messmer's forces. Exhaust her dialogue and keep her in mind, we will need to come back later.
Next, return to the well with that long ladder from the first street area. Make your way back to the bottom then use the Well Depths Key to open the gated door. This leads you to the settlement's moat, a massive mucky area that inflicts poison as you walk in it. If you have an incantation like Cure Poison or Flame, Cleanse Me, or can craft a few Neutralizing Boluses, this is a great time to get them ready.
Start by going straight ahead and climbing on the downed tower. On the other side are some smaller buildings, the farthest one has a Smithing Stone 2 (x2) on the roof.
Straight ahead from here is a large empty space with a few items scattered around. Step out into the opening and the ground will rumble, causing a Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit to burst from the ground. This is a relatively weak one if your character is geared for end game content. As usual the safe strategy is to tuck yourself under the Spirits chest or its side/tail area and attack as much as possible. Use heavy attacks and try to get a stagger.
Anytime you see it lift its body for an attack, dodge away as the beast slams the ground to avoid damage. When it jumps into the air and charges toward you, dodge into the attack and it will go right past. At about half health the Spirit will charge up a powerful explosion. Run away, or just stay close and tank the damage if you can. Just watch out for the poison damage, which can tick you down if you wait too long.
Keep up the attacks and you should be able to dispatch it after a short battle. Your reward is the Immunizing Horn Charm +2. You can also grab the various items around, Dewgem x3, Neutralizing Boluses, Broken Rune, Thin Beast Bones x8, and a Sliver of Meat x2.
Hop back over the collapsed towers and make your way over to the other side of the moat. This entire area is infested with man-flies. As usual they pose little threat, except for when they come in big groups that can overwhelm you. Make use of the big space to break them up and take them on 1-2 at a time.
When you are about to pass under the bridge overhead, go left and you can find Neutralizing Boluses behind one of the small houses. As you pass under the bridge man-flies will fall from above you, so be prepared for the ambush.
On the other side of the bridge you will see a bunch of man-flies roaming around, and another house half submerged in the muck. Climb on the house to get the Serpent Arrow x8 on the roof. From here we can see more man-flies in the distance, but also a single Horned Warrior.
Buff up and approach the Warrior first. Use this large area to create some distance between you, but try not to aggro the man-flies. Wait out one of his big combos or slam attacks, then jump in with an attack to counter. Remember the kick is the easiest attack to dodge and punish, so keep an eye out for it. Defeating this Horned Warrior gets you a Horned Warrior’s Sword.
Walk over to the last group of man-flies and kill them off. Go over to the submerged tower in the distance and loot the item sitting on the ground, the Poisoned Hand weapon.
There is another small item sitting on a buried house surrounded by man-flies, Knot Resin x5. Look for this platform near the buried house, which has a ladder on it leading out of the drainage channel.
Before you climb, make your way to this corner behind the ladder where there is a Whiteflesh Mushroom x5.
Return to the ladder and climb up. At the top is a door, which leads us right back to the first site of grace.
That completes our exploration of this area. Return to the Stagefront site of grace and get ready for a boss battle. Step through the door to encounter…
Divine Beast Dancing Lion Boss Fight
Divine Beast Dancing Lion is a large beast type enemy with a wide variety of slam and tackle attacks that cover big range and deal big damage. As you might expect, the danger zone is his head and mouth, so you want to mostly attack from his side or hit him in the tail. You never really want to be directly under him though, because his body slam will catch you at that range.
For the most part, his attacks are nothing tricky. He lifts his head before lunging at you, lifts his body before slamming down. Avoid by dodging past them, the tricky part is that he likes to chain them together quickly before you can really react.
The best move we can hope for is his giant body slam, where he stands up on his back legs for a few moments before crashing down. Dodge toward as he hits the ground, then lay into him with some heavy attacks. A shield is a great option here for standing your ground while you wait for the right opening.
When the lion stands and clamps his teeth together he is about to charge at you and try to grab. This deals significant damage if you get caught, roll at the last second just before he is about to bite down on you to avoid it.
If you see the Lion stand and face his mouth down he is getting ready to spew dust into the area around him. This attack is very annoying and covers a lot of space. What you want to do is back away slightly and slowly strafe around. As the dust blast approaches you, dodge roll through it to avoid damage. This goes on for a few rotations, if you feel daring you can try to get some quick attacks in between dodging.
When he lifts into the air and twirls, he's about to do a three hit slam combo, then lift up and do the aforementioned dirt blast. This is his biggest attack in phase one, just try to block or run away from the attack fully. Once the dirt blast starts you can carefully make your way back in, dodge, then get some attacks off as he recovers.
At about 65% health the Lion will enter phase two, activating his elemental enhancements. The enhancement can be lightning, ice, or wind, and he switches between them every 15-30 seconds. This causes all of his attacks to gain elemental area effects you will need to dodge in addition to the usual hitboxes.
The lion always starts with lightning. This is the most threatening of the three. All of his attacks now cause lightning bolts to strike randomly around him. These are nearly impossible to predict, but they seem to appear slightly less behind him. These strikes make it nearly impossible to get attacks in, so I recommend just healing up and running away until he switches to a different form.
He also has a new attack, a long range lightning bolt. If he attempts to throw it, just dodge roll away at the moment of impact, then dodge roll again to avoid the resulting area damage.
Second is usually ice. This one is much better, his attacks cause a grounded ice attack to shoot out around him. You can avoid these by jumping or rolling away onto the non-icy sections of ground. Use more jump attacks to get off the ground, just be careful of Frostbite buildup.
The new attack is his frost slam, where he lifts his leg up high and stomps, causing ice to shoot in all directions. This is a great opening for us, you can avoid this by jumping as the stomp connects. Use the chance to get a free jump attack, plus a few more hits after.
Third form is wind. This seems to be the easiest one, so when you see it come out that is your signal to go all out and try to finish him off. There is still an AoE around him, but it isn't as strong or dangerous as the other two. Most of the wind blasts you will avoid naturally by dodging the physical portion of the attack.
He does have some new ranged attacks where he throws wind blasts at you, including a new super attack where he charges up a tornado and flings it at you. All are easy to dodge by simply running perpendicular to the blast.
At very low health the lion will start mixing all three elements. This can be overwhelming, but the strategies aren’t new. Stick to the plan, and avoid lightning!
Generally, staying a little ways away and watching his actions is always good. Wait for him to do a big slam or dash attack, then counter with an approaching jumping attack or charge attack before backing off. He seems very susceptible to stagger, you can probably get 2-3 off over the course of the fight. If you are a ranged character you have it a little easier here. He will still chase you relentlessly, but you do not have to get close up and deal with his various area strikes and slams.
Defeating the Dancing Lion gets you 120,000 runes, the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion, and the Divine Beast Head helmet.
Continuing Hornsent Grandam's Quest
With the Divine Beast Head, you can now fool the old woman in the storage room by the Small Private Altar into thinking you are one of the "Sculpted Keepers". Wear this helmet and speak to the old woman and she will pledge her assistance, giving you the Watchful Spirit Incantation.
Keep talking to her (which may require you to go and rest and come back), and she'll ask if you're hungry, and will make you some Scorpion Stew. You can only have one of these at a time, but it provides a wealth of bonuses as a consumable. You can also give one to the Hornsent back at the Three-Path Cross, and he'll eventually leave behind a gift for you as thanks.
With the Divine Beast defeated, you'll find that you can now access a lift to the side of the stagefront leading to a large door. On the other side, you'll find a lengthy staircase with a headless corpse holding a Revered Spirit Ash Blessing.
When you try to advance up the large staircase, you'll find the path blocked by large black shadowy thorns, not unlike those that once barred the entrance to the Erdtree in the Lands Between.
A note can be found nearby, the Tower of Shadow Message. In it, Leda has mentioned that "The Gate of Divinity lies in the tower sealed by shadow. This is surely where Kind Miquella is headed."
