Surviving The First Night
Congratulations! You’ve made it through the first day. Now it's time to make it through your first night.
Making A Campfire
Hopefully you’ve spent every moment picking up enough supplies to build an Axe. If you have, you’re on the right path. Remember, before nightfall, you’ll need to have as much Cut Grass and Logs as possible.
If you have those items and you’ve also managed to secure some food in your inventory, you’re well prepared for nightfall. Open up your crafting menu, and under the Light tab, craft a Campfire.
Most importantly, the campfire’s light will keep creatures that thrive in the dark at bay — but the fire offers up some other perks as well.
Before you go any further, it’s a good idea to get the fire blazing. Using extra Logs in your inventory, standing next to the campfire will allow you to add fuel to the fire, increasing the area that’s lit up. This will let you roam just a bit further away from your fire, should you need to grab something on the outskirts of your camp.
Satisfying Your Hunger
If you’ve been keeping an eye on your hunger levels, you probably know it’s time to enjoy a meal. Evaluate the food in your inventory. Most likely, you’ll have some Seeds, Berries, and Carrots on you. These items can be consumed normally by highlighting them and selecting “eat,” but you’ve got a nice fire going — take advantage of it! Select any of the items previously mentioned, and so long as you’re standing next to the Campfire, a new option will appear: Cook.
Cooking the Seeds, Berries, and Carrots will give you new items in your inventory: Toasted Seeds, Roasted Berries, and Roasted Carrots, respectively. Because you have a Campfire, nighttime is a great opportunity to consume food and replenish your hunger meter.
Prep For The Next Day
Night is also the perfect opportunity to prep. If you have enough Cut Grass and Twigs, you can craft the Grass Suit. It’s always a good idea to ready yourself for the coming day.
Finally, you can use any remaining Cut Grass and Twigs to craft a Torch. It won’t provide much light, but if you’re running really low on food, you can leave camp and scout out some Berries or Seeds.
Take advantage of nighttime by consuming food and crafting any protective Dress items. You’ll need your wits about you for the coming days. Congratulations on making it through your first night!
