Multiplayer
Battlefield Hardline's new setting changes the landscape of the Battlefield series. There are new Game Modes, Classes, and Weapons, but the base Battlefield formula is still there. There is large scale destruction, vehicle warfare, and team-based gameplay.
Classes
Like past games in the Battlefield series, players can select one of four classes during each life in the Multiplayer Game Modes. Each class specializes in a particular area and can use select Weapons and Gadgets.
- Operator: The Operator is the medic of the team. They are always on the front lines healing and reviving teammates. Their primary weapons of choice are the Assault Rifles.
- Mechanic: The Mechanic is the engineer of the team. They specialize in fixing friendly vehicles and destroying any vehicles. Their primary weapons of choice are the Carbines.
- Enforcer: The Enforcer is the support of the team. They specialize is covering fire and supplying the team with ammunition. Their primary weapons of choice are the Light Machine Guns.
- Professional: The Professional is the sniper of the team. They specialize in relaying information to the rest of the team (reconnaissance) and providing sniper support. Their primary weapons of choice are the Sniper Rifles.
Ranks
Like past games in the series, Battlefield Hardline allows players to rank up in the Multiplayer. Play Game Mode to get in-game currency and a score that is equal to the money earned. The score is the value used to rank up an Agent.
Rank is strictly a number that shows a player's dedication to the game. There are a total of 150 Ranks in Battlefield Hardline.
The only items unlocked through ranks in Battlefield Hardline are Battlepacks.
Multiplayer Unlocks
Battlefield Hardline features a revamped system for unlocking items in the Multiplayer portion of the game. This time around players earn cash in Multiplayer games instead of score alone, and that cash can be used to unlock select items. Unfortunately, some items require even more effort before they can be purchased or unlocked.
Weapons and Gadgets
The vast majority of Weapons and Gadgets can be unlocked by purchasing them with cash earned in-game. This way players can immediately get the weapon they want!
However, most of the weapons are exclusive to the Cop or Criminal factions. To unlock a weapon for use in the opposite faction, an Agent must buy a weapon license. First, score 1,250 kills with a specific weapon on one faction, then purchase the license for $50,000. Example: If playing as a criminal, you can purchase the AKM for $12,000. To unlock the AKM for the cops faction, you must score 1,250 kills with the AKM as a criminal, then purchase the license for $50,000 as a cop.
Select weapons can only be unlocked after completing two Assignments. A pre-requirement must be completed before the first assignment's award requirement, then the second pre-requirement must be completed before the second assignment's award requirement.
Weapon | Pre-Req 1 | Award Req 1 | Pre-Req 2 | Award Req 2 |

Weapon attachments
Weapon Attachments can be purchased for a weapon with in-game currency after buying the base weapon and reaching a set kill limit. The kill limit varies depending on the base weapon and the weapon attachment slot. 30 Kills must be made on handguns before an optic can be bought, but only 20 kills must be made on carbines before an optic can be purchased.
In addition to buying attachments, you may be able to find vouchers for attachments in Battlepacks. For example, you may find a Red Dot Sight voucher in a battlepack. You can use that to unlock a Red Dot Sight on any one weapon that can use a Red Dot Sight.
Vehicle Upgrades
Upgrading a vehicle requires both score and in-game currency. To earn score, players must use a vehicle while completing objectives or killing Agents. The currency earned during these activities will be equal to the score earned for that vehicle class. Once a score limit has been reached for that vehicle class, select upgrades can be purchased.
For example: To use the Air Radar upgrade on Attack Helicopters, you must first earn 25,000 score while using Attack Helicopters (over as many games as needed), then you must purchase the upgrade with $53,200.
Battlepacks
Battlepacks are bags of semi-random rewards given to players while progressing through the Multiplayer portion of Battlefield Hardline. These packs contain combinations of weapon camos, dog tags, knives, XP boosts, and more.
Players can earn Battlepacks by completing levels in the Campaign, ranking up in the Multiplayer, earning Stars on weapons and classes, or by purchasing them with cash earned in-game throughout the Multiplayer. See the table below for a breakdown of the three most common Battlepacks.
Battlepack | Price | Descriptin |
---|---|---|
Bronze Battlepack | $10,000 | Contains three items including a minimum of two standard items, with a bonus third item. The bonus item contains the likelihood of rewarding an advanced item. |
Silver Battlepack | $25,000 | Contains four items including a minimum of one advanced item and two standard items, with a bonus fourth item. The bonus item contains the likelihood of rewarding a superior item, not present in a Bronze Battlepack. |
Gold Battlepack | $50,000 | Contains five items including a minimum of two advanced items and two standard items, with a bonus fifth item. The bonus item contains the likelihood of rewarding a distinguished item, not present in a Silver Battlepack. |
Game Modes
Battlefield Hardline features a total of seven game modes. Two are returning from previous Battlefield games, while the other five are new twists on old game modes or brand new all together!
- Blood Money is an objective game mode that pits cops and criminals against each other in a fight to seize a large sum of money from the opposing team.
- Conquest is an objective game mode where two teams fight over control of several flag set around the map.
- Crosshair is a half objective and half death match game mode. The cops must escort a VIP to an extraction point, while the criminals fight to eliminate him before the time runs out. No vehicles, and no respawns!
- Heist is an objective game mode where the criminals try and blow open a vault and escape with the cash. Meanwhile the cops try to prevent the robbery and the criminal's escape.
- Hotwire is a game mode where cops chase down criminals at high speeds across expansive environments.
- Rescue is an objective game mode where the authorities try and save hostages from their captives.
- Team Deathmatch is a game mode where two teams fight to the death. No vehicles allowed!
Multiplayer Maps
Battlefield Hardline ships with a total of nine Multiplayer Maps. These maps vary in size depending on the Game Mode. Game Modes like Conquest have the largest map versions, while infantry-based game modes like Team Deathmatch, Rescue, and Crosshair have the smallest map versions.
Each map has various Levolution features. Some are small, like opening and closing doors and shutters, while others may change the layout of the entire map. See each page for more information on Levolution.
