The Train Ride
5 Tips for Starting New Leaf
Hello, Rover
The game begins in route to your new town. Hoping to pass the time, a blue cat named Rover will strike up a conversation. While it may seem he's just trying to be friendly, his questions neatly prepare both your character and the town for your arrival.
Choosing Your Identity
First, introductions are in order. After confirming the time, Rover will ask for your name. Feel free to type whatever you'd like, but remember that this is what you'll be known as for the rest of the game. Next, choose your gender by declaring your name "cool" for male or "cute" for female. He'll give you one last chance to confirm before you're stuck that way forever.
Choosing Your Town
You will be asked during the train ride to name your town. In a new feature to New Leaf, you will then be shown a map of what it will look like. When asked, "Is this the village you are moving to?", you can have the map regenerated by pressing the
button or selecting "No..." on the touch screen. Once you find one you're happy with, you'll be very close to seeing it in person.
Choosing Your Look
Next, you'll be asked three simple and seemingly unimportant questions. However, your responses directly result in which face your character will have — one of 12 possible outcomes. You can see each face and the required answers in the video below or as static images on the Face Guide page. Your hair style, hair color and eye color can all be changed later at Shampoodle.
The Train Arrives
Once the train pulls into the station, it's time for the first day in your new town!
