Story: 6.5/10
It’s no doubt that Call of Duty WWII is a visually stunning and substantial entry to the COD franchise, but as much as I understand it, I find myself feeling contempt with the mission layout and cinematics.
Modern Warfare Remastered (therefore COD4) is, so far, my favourite game in the franchise. The way those older games incorporated cinematics into the actual gameplay was visionary, it captivates the player, ultimately making the game more interactive therefore more enjoyable.
I’d say, around 20% of a single mission in COD: WWII is noninteractive cinematics. Leaving the 80% to carry the mission forward. But that 80% is just shoot and move forward. There’s little to no captivating gameplay. The driving is messy, it makes MW2’s driving feel like Forza Horizon 4 (MW2 came out in 2009 on the PS3).
I dunno, everything that makes COD so great is extremely lacking in this entry, it’s got a fine story, but I wish it had that classic COD touch.
Zombies: 4/10
Boring, messy map layout. SHG, take notes from Treyarch. They made a Zombies map that is simple, clean but also gives a sense of isolation and claustrophobia in 2008. The mass of my score comes from the stunning visuals and interactivity.
