In July, Evolve on PC switched to Evolve Stage 2, making the game free-to-play. As a result, the Evolve player count rose to 1 million within a week of the switch.Turtle Rock said there was a lot it had hoped to do with the game, including introducing Evolve Stage 2 to consoles, but "it looks like that’s just not meant to be."
Turtle Rock also pointed out the end of support for Evolve isn't its decision, but rather part and parcel of being a triple-A developer who isn't "self-funded" and doesn't own its IP.
"We don’t get to make the call," it said.
After thanking THQ, who "initially believed in" the studio when it was small, and thanking 2K for "picking up the mantle out of THQ’s bankruptcy," Turtle Rock Studios took the chance to thank its fans.
"Thank you all for your feedback, your support and your dedication."
The studio is planning one final Evolve livestream October 27 at 12 p.m. PT. Seth Macy is IGN's weekend web producer and just wants to be your friend. Follow him on Twitter @sethmacy, or subscribe to Seth Macy's YouTube channel.
