Around 35 people have been made redundant at mobile publisher Kabam.

TechCrunch reports the affected staff – which represents roughly 7% of Kabam's 500-strong workforce – were informed about the layoffs earlier this week.

The publisher is best known for mobile titles such as Marvel Contest of Champions and Disney Mirrorverse.

It's headquartered in Vancouver, with studios and offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, and Charlottetown, Austin. It is unclear how many of these locations have been affected.

“As we at Kabam reviewed our strategic priorities, we made the decision to adjust our resourcing structure in alignment with our goals," a spokesperson told TechCrunch.

"This means that while we will continue to hire in key areas in the year ahead, unfortunately, we are reducing our workforce by approximately 7%. For those we are parting ways with, we are grateful to [sic] their contributions to our success, and are supporting them through this challenging transition."

Earlier this year, parent Netmarble merged its North American operations with Kabam, having acquired the Vancouver studio back in 2017.

Kabam is one of many companies in the tech and games to have made redundancies in recent weeks, with hundreds of layoffs at Microsoft as part of "structural adjustments" and 11,000 people let go at Meta.
