Saramonic Blink500 B2+ Wireless Microphone Review

The Saramonic Blink500 B2+ is aimed at content creators who need better audio quality than what in-camera microphones provide when shooting on location, even in more challenging environments. The lengthy total battery life has been a highlight during my testing, allowing for a full weekend’s worth of constant recording. However, there are many other features worth mentioning. Sadly, there are also some downsides. This is my Blink500 B2+ review.

Easy mode

Getting connected is made super easy with the 4-in-1 connection support. Users can take advantage of USB-C, Lightning, 3.5 mm TRS, and 3.5 mm TRRS connectors. This makes the Blink500 B2+ compatible out of the box with most devices.

Additionally, dual-device connectivity means it’s possible to record on two devices simultaneously, which is surely a boon for those planning to livestream.

Settings are configured using the OLED screen, which is a nice touch on this more affordable device. While it isn’t a touchscreen, navigation is simple enough with buttons.

When it comes to capturing audio, the quality is impressive, especially in noisier environments where the 2-level noise reduction function shines alongside a low-cut filter. It’s also great to see the Safety Track option, which could well save the day on important shoots.

During my testing, I had zero issues with the 2.4 GHz wireless and experienced no instances of perceptible interference. Recordings came out as expected with no frustration.

Battery champ

Saramonic Blink500 B2+ review

As mentioned in the intro, the Blink500 B2+’s battery life is a highlight, with the product boasting 40 hours when including the charging case’s longevity. With all components being stored in the case, they are always recharged and ready to go, removing any battery anxiety that users might normally have. This is especially appreciated when traveling for a shoot, as the last thing you want to worry about is whether the microphones are charged.

Room for improvement

Saramonic Blink500 B2+ review

While my time using the Blink500 B2+ has been largely positive, there is still some room for improvement. Build quality is what first struck me. Though I understand that this is a budget offering and the audio quality is indeed impressive for the price point, I do wish the case felt a little less flimsy and more durable, especially when it’s designed for on-the-go recording.

Those hoping for 32-bit float support will also be disappointed to learn that the Blink500 B2+ caps out at 24-bit. That said, 24-bit has provided enough headroom to edit without compromising the final output quality.

Final Verdict

At $129, the Saramonic Blink500 B2+ wireless microphone stands out as a more budget option that delivers much of what expensive competitors offer. It delivers great audio quality, solid ease of use, and long battery life. Sure, the outer casing could feel more durable, but it’s a nitpick. Definitely consider the Blink500 B2+ when deciding on your next microphone.
