Better Than the "Pro Controller"?

Functions just as good as the pro controller and better
Ironically, the Nintendo "pro controller" is notorious for having a horrible D-pad despite the fact that Nintendo was the literal innovators of the patent over 40 years ago. How is the "pro controller" 's D-pad so bad? Any old school 2-D platformer OR fighting game fan will tell you how important it is to press Left and not also go Up or Down. Or Press Down and not also be pressing diagonally to the Right or Left. This is the glaring flaw in the official and too expensive pro controller. This 8bitdo Ultimate C controller has a D-pad that works as good as Nintendo's USE to work. It also has gyro (motion) controls and all the buttons are easy to navigate due to their placement. It's super easy to sync to your Switch, has a long battery life, feels good in the hands and built well.. I had to buy 4 other Switch controllers until I found this one. It's better than Nintendo's own controller and it's half the price. I never thought that I'd be saying that one day, but it's true. For those frustrated with the official Nintendo Pro Controller's bad D-Pad, buy this instead. Easily 5 Shining Stars.

In regards to powering on the Switch remotely

I asked a question here before purchasing, and got a few different answers, but none of them quite got it right, so I'd like to clarify now that I've got my hands on one.

The 8BitDo Ultimate C controller can indeed 'wake up' the Switch instantly. First, you must push the Home button to turn the controller on, then just give it a little shake, and it powers right on. Very convenient.

Keep in mind, in the Switch's TV settings, you have to have "Match TV Power State" turned On, as well as having this feature enabled on the TV itself.

Absolutely a bargain at this price point. Fantastic controller all around. Bluetooth stayed connected in every room of the house, and even outside on the porch. Just played a few rounds of Splatoon 3 and the motion controls worked flawlessly.

The only complaint I can think of is that sometimes light vibrations come through as strong rumbles, but its not enough to dissuade me in the slightest.

This is a basic controller with a very good build quality. The buttons and triggers are firm, but not sticky. Pairing to the Switch is a breeze. It doesn't have a ton of extra features that hardcore gamers would be looking for, but that's a great thing. The controller takes out all the fluff and gives a simple, straightforward, well-built experience. Feels great in the hand. I think I might like it better than the Pro controllers 8bitdo is known for. Would love to see this in the N64 transparent colorwave.

After owning a Nintendo Switch for exactly 1 year, I had come to the conclusion that this console was not designed to satisfy me. Maybe just a fun toy for the kids. The Nintendo branded joycons are laggy and experience CONSTANT connection issues under the slightest adversity. The "Pro" controller is MUCH better, but do I need to buy 4 of these $70 controllers?
The 8bitdo controller has rumble, motion control, and a REAL D-pad at 1/2 the price of the PRO controller. Not only is the D-pad more functional, but the joysticks are much more accurate than any of the Nintendo licensed stuff at any price. The motion control(think Zelda bow aiming) is light-years ahead of the stock controllers. This controller has changed my entire experience with the Switch.
NOTES:
Pair the controller for the first time using the supplied USB to C cable provided.
This controller can actually WAKE the system by powering ON the controller and giving it a SHAKE!
The battery seems to be a bit smaller than the PRO's. - The controller is a bit lighter weight.

If you're a casual gamer and usually play more cozy games than combat games, I think this is perfect in terms of quality. It's quite good quality for what I'm using it for (e.g. cozy games, Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda) - it gets the job done and the rumble is enough for me. Its battery is long lasting but I don't game hours everyday. I am a girl with small hands so I find the size perfect, and the texture gives me a good enough grip. It's very pretty and the buttons are good enough for me - easy to use and not sticky nor does it take much effort to press. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend. It's very affordable and I think good enough for the types of games (e.g. Spiritfarer, Cozy Grove, Gris, Hogwarts Legacy, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Ni No Kuni) and amount of gaming I do (maybe 2 h a day, and not everyday sometimes).
