Should you “niche” when it comes to running an agency? I personally think it’s the secret to success. Here’s why… - People want to work with a specialist and will value your service / trust your expertise more. - When you focus on a specific sector, you completely understand them and understand how to solve their problems. - Niching into a specific sector enables you to be hyper focused with your sales and marketing. - Niching into a specific service enables you to be the best-in-class in that discipline. - Specialists can charge more for their expertise than generalists. - You get to work with the best clients in the sector that you specialise in. There are negatives of course - becoming pigeon holed, having all your eggs in one basket if that sector or service has problems, lack of diverse work for the team. But niching isn’t an “all or nothing thing”. You can niche into more than one sector. We’ve always been specialists in food/drink and education. It’s what’s enabled us to work with household name brands and top-tier educational institutions. And look - when clients from other sectors want to work with us that’s fine too. Phew, yesterday was a big shift. Just over 40 videos delivered to clients and pending final review. Now, how did we do that? Witch craft? Not Quite. 1: Batching. When working on large projects where videos are all similar, you can create an effient process. Find and cut A-Roll, find, cut and overlay B-Roll, add background music from pre-saved client specific playlist, colorgrade, captions, send off for review. 2: Delegation. About a quarter of this was done by one of BZM's editors. As we continue to scale, this % of work will continue to increase. 3: Deep work sessions. Phone off (I recommend downloading Opal), distracting tabs closed, Lofi Music on, getting to work.

Main Stream Media Would Rather Tell YOU About Video Game Mods Than REAL LIFE Events - Why is that? And what does it mean for YOU?🫵🏼 You’re probably as shocked as I am. I couldn’t believe it when I saw an official BBC News YouTube channel reporting on video games. But why are they doing that? Shouldn’t they be reporting on real life events that affect YOUR life? Not some digital game? Well, yes and no. The traditional view of the news has always been a mechanism to control the narrative by informing the world about current (potentially life threatening) events. But really it’s just a platform to capture, YOUR attention 🫵🏼 In a survey published by ofcom, here were the statistics for news consumption for years 16-24: Television: 47% Social Media: 71% Online: 83% But that still doesn’t answer the question, why are they posting about a video game mod? Because within the online space, to maximise reach you follow the trends - if you like this post I’ll be sending you an invoice for this tip 😉 The Fallout TV Show (based on the video game) released and has hit record breaking numbers. This resulted in the sales of Fallout 4 (Video Game) to increase by 7500%! And obviously, Mainstream Media wanted to capitalise on this, and have their slice of the attention. Leading us to this. So if the Mainstream Media are changing their approach for awareness and cultivating an audience, why aren’t you? Think that creating videos is all about filming? Think again. The pre-production process is crucial to make sure a project gets delivered successfully.  Prior to the shoot we’ll have a pre-production meeting. Typically I like to go through the following points and put this all into a briefing document so we both are on the same point. TARGET AUDIENCE:  Who will watch this video? what are their pain points? what do they need? How do we want them to feel/think/do when they watch the video? CORE MESSAGE: What’s the core message we must deliver? How do we want your brand to be perceived? What’s the call to action? LOCATION + TALENT Where are we going to film? Do we have multiple locations? Is a location scout necessary? Who will be the talent in front of the camera? INTERVIEW QUESTIONS If we have to film an interview we will discuss the interview questions together so that on the day you will be prepared and confident in-front of the camera and who will be used as talent. SHOTS LIST What shots do we want to capture to bring those message across? I will create a shot list so I know exactly what to capture on the production day. As you can see creating a video is not just hit record and hope for the best. There’s a lot of thought and strategy that goes behind this to make sure we create an outstanding final product.  If you want to create a video for your business and don’t know where to get started I’m just a DM away.

Not all brands can be like SURREAL They've been killing it when it comes to brand marketing. They are using their Tone Of Voice in such a powerful way that they are generating incredibly high brand awareness (and ROI, catch the posts made by all the people who purchased the cereal box at Sainsbury's). 🧠 But since when is tone of voice such a disruptive tool? Well, like all trends, we go from one extreme to the other. We went from the incredibly stiff corporate-y mannerisms 💼 to the beyond informal ways 🕺 that brands like Monzo Bank, Ryanair or Duolingo use on TikTok to win customer love. 💅 But being able to nail it with tone of voice is really hard: you must be extremely clear on your external message, able to 100% deliver on your customer promise, ... But most of all it requires full internal buy-in: try convincing your head of marketing to call the creative director stupid on a Linkedin post that probably gets a few 10s of thousand impressions - on a business social media platform.
