TVLINE | It has been a few days since I watched the finale, and the line that has stuck with me is your line, “I thought you might choose me.” It cuts deep.
I think it’s just the most perfectly written line. It says so much. It’s incredibly heartbreaking, but it’s so interesting [thinking about] what it encompasses. She knew that Will was smart enough that he would eventually figure it out. But that is the choice, isn’t it? “I thought you might choose me….” I sobbed when I read it. I thought that was beautiful.
TVLINE | Your voice breaks midway through that line reading. Was that a choice you made in your performance to drive home that Angie’s heart was breaking? Or was that Erika’s heart breaking for Angie as you said those words out loud?
It’s kind of neither. But If I had to choose one of the two, it would be the former. I don’t tend to be very present as myself, and I don’t tend to be very manipulative of Angie. Liz and I played with the various tones and what Angie might be feeling. What is obvious is the betrayal and the heartbreak, but there could be [a question of] how much resignation comes through? And how much “F—k you” comes through? As heartbreaking as it was, we really enjoyed exploring that moment. It’s funny, because we were just like, “Let’s go again. Let’s see what else there is,” you know? “Let’s keep putting her in this situation, and keep seeing what happens.” I have no idea which take was which, but it’s fascinating. It makes me want to make some type of arthouse movie where we can jump-cut between different takes and determine all of the colors that are going through this person’s heart and soul in this moment.
I’m so glad they gave them another season. I love the show and all the characters in it. Refreshing for network tv.
love the show, love her version of Angie – as a book reader I’d be happy if they took this as a path to do something really interesting that’s almost never done on TV and make her more like the book character, where the consequences of her arrest (whatever they may be) end up sending her down a dark, bitter path and she takes on an antagonist role. I’m thinking of The Kept Woman – she can be helpful to Will in solving cases but also be decidedly Not Doing The Right Thing lol. that could inspire some Ormewood plot moves too for anyone who’s read that, maybe he’s disillusioned with the whole system & does what he does or maybe he is still a good cop but tries to sabotage Will whenever possible. it would be nice if it didn’t compromise her sobriety but it would also be fascinating to see her fall into addiction again to cope with losing her entire identity, get some representation for how odious substance abuse can be for law professionals. we haven’t seen a show commit to a main character becoming a really really bad guy so it could be very fun to see what Erika does with the darkness and also that would be a LOT for Will to grow through. plus how that would impact his relationships with Faith and Amanda…. and then in like, two seasons, maybe a Sara.
As a fan, I feel like the TV Angie is what the book Angie should have been, especially after her first turn People forget how Angie was in book one. I often wonder if Karin regrets not using Angie in a different way in the books. I can see Angie being a Private Investigator that interacts with the team, which is what should have happened in the books. I find it odd they chose Ormewood as the character to write so differently. He is the one I could care less about and not because of the books.
I think this episode showed the fans just how talented the actors and actresses are. The emotions were all over the place. Some fans rooting for that happy ending and some hoping for Angie to be served justice. Kudos to ABC for realizing they have a hit. And, kudos to the talented people that bring this show to us each week. P.S. Pedro was cute but, he is not Betty.
I agree that this showed how talented the actors are and work so well together but I know the Slaughter books we’ll and know Sara is in Will’s future.
Erika Christensen is soo good in this role! I really like her better here than in Parenthood. The role is deeper. She does both tough and vulnerable really well. I don’t think the montage bodes well for Angie and Will’s future. Usually when you see someone’s wedding fantasy, then there’s never a wedding.
Angie and Will need to be together. Make it happen!
The twist put me on my azz.
Did not see that coming.
Very well done W.T.
Just Wow, W O W
If Will & Angie break up and if u kill off Betty I know a lot of people who will find another show to watch. Including me but you y’all have the power to change it all. I just hope you don’t 😞
All the characters and the storyline are slightly different than in the books. That said, it’s a great show and I look forward to seeing it resume in 2025.
I think Angie has a lot of nerve saying to Will that she thought he might “choose her” when Angie could have chosen him and told him the truth from the beginning! I think then it would have been a very different outcome.
Love the Show/ Will Trent. I am Excited to See Where it Goes.
I have read the books more than once. I was rooting for Angie in the books at first knowing her history with Will. I think that is why they made her more likable in the show. However if she takes the dark path after this she will become more like the book version and then we will see people change their minds. Love the books and TV Show. Hope the show live on for a long time.
Why is no one mentioning Ormewood’s involvement in the cover up?
If Betty dies I will no longer be a viewer of the show. It is my favorite but I am totally an animal lover first.
Big fan of the show. I’m hoping for Angie to hold it together because she’s not the only person who can go down… Her partner put his career on the line to help her story make sense at the apartment; and now he’s about to go into an ugly custody battle for his kids.
Good time for Angie to go to the dark side and Sara to come into the picture.
Will was a favorite character until he turned Angie in. Plus, waiting until 2025. We’ll, I just think it’s all too much for this former fan. And Will, it’s not even realistic that he would do that to someone so woven into his life and survival. I know you thought that was great writing. I don’t.
The Whitehouse Restaurant in Buckhead would love for Will Trent to be a regular at our restaurant!!! They filmed one episode here, ( a gunshot through the front window) but that wouldn’t deter Will Trent from perfect eggs any time!!! Thank you, sincerely yours Jana Galaktiadis p.s.wr sure love this show and that it all takes place in Atlanta!
People commenting that if they kill off Betty, they won’t watch anymore. People, that scene of Betty being gone was far into the future!
And I want Angie and Will together. I don’t care what the book did, I am watching the TV show and Erika Christensen’s portrayal of Angie is just too good. I don’t her to go to a dark place and they don’t end up together! Also, love the Uncle and hope he comes back.
I love this show so much! I was just devastated at the ending of season 2. I’ve read Karin Slaughter’s novels and I’m really wondering if Sara Linton will be introduced in season 3. The actors who play Will and Angie, Ramon and Erika, are fantastic, as are the rest of the cast!
I think Angie has to go. She keeps bringing him down just when things seem to be going well. How many times does he have to rescue her. He maintained his integrity regardless of his love for her or is it a crutch? Bring in someone new that truly could be good for him.
I never read the books so I can only go by my feelings for the series last episode. I am so devastated over the ending. It came across like a soap opera and I am on the fence as to whether I will watch it next season. What a bummer.
I don’t think Angie should come back, give will a chance at a real relationship with someone else, Y’all took the one person I thought he really like, the lady that got blown up. yall had Angie sleeping with everyone even to get her drugs, breaking up families she was a mess, so keeping her off the show would make me feel ok.And give Will a relationship besides his pet which I know he loves very much.
Never read the books
I really love the show, I was devastated when I thought it was the end BUT 10 minutes after thinking it over and running many Scenarios of endings!! Through my thoughts!!!!!! Not possible THUMBS UP, Love the Twist, Will has a plan he thinks to far into the future many different possible outcomes he had it figured out way before this, at Angie’s Deception, Bravo.
Season 3 are they going to introduce sarah
This show unlike any other has captured my heart. Will and Angie’s deep seeded relationship born out of such pain and hardship deserve to be a central enduring focus of the series.
There is a way out! Remember Angie who is a recovering narcotic does not have the best judgement. It stands to reason that her judgement was faulty because of her history of serial sexual assault as a child. I am hoping this becomes a reason to forgive and give her another chance.
Remember CSI Las Vegas had Josh be able to return after his mothers murder and his lapse of judgement.
