Deputy Director, Sydney Environment Institute; Co-Lead Australasian Wildlife Genomics Group, University of Sydney

Prof Carolyn Hogg has been working on the conservation of threatened species for over twenty-five years both in Australia and overseas, and is currently the Deputy Director of the Sydney Environment Institute and the co-lead of the Australasian Wildlife Genomics Group at the University of Sydney. Carolyn has been working with the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program for 14 years; in addition to other species such as orange-bellied parrots, koalas, bilbies and woylies. Working closely with both her academic and conservation management partners Carolyn's vision is to create a conservation legacy for Australia by changing the way we integrate science, management and policy; to proactively promote species’ resilience in the face of a changing world. She is achieving this by developing better tools and technologies to integrate molecular genetics into real-time conservation management decisions. Carolyn is the Science-Lead for the Threatened Species Initiative, a project that has developed genomic resources for over 100 of Australia's threatened species, and an online conservation toolkit to upskill managers/practitioners in how to use these resources for science-based decisions and policy.
