BFDI: Branches is a fan game, and is not canon to BFDI.
How to install BFDI: Branches Demo (Windows):
- Click the download button on the BFDI: Branches itch.io page, and wait for the download to finish.
- Open the File Explorer (Win + E).
- Open the Downloads folder.
- Right click the downloaded BFDI Branches folder, and click Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder, open the second BFDI Branches folder inside.
- Right click bfdibranches.exe, and click Open.
- The "Window has protected your PC" window will show up for the first time only. Click "More info" then "Run anyway." You may have to whitelist the program in your antivirus software to open the game.
- If the game does not automatically open, right click bfdibranches.exe, and click Open.
How to update BFDI: Branches Demo:
If there is a new update, it will show up as a button in the bottom center of the home menu. They will also be announced in the #update-log channel in the BFDI: Branches Discord.
- Click on the update menu of the bottom center of the home menu. DO NOT click the update button a second time, and DO NOT close the game before it has updated. This can corrupt the update process, which will make you have to reinstall the game. When the game has finished downloading the update, it will forcibly close by itself.
- After the game forcibly closes, open bfdibranches.exe again.
Troubleshooting:
The game is not opening: Try right clicking bfdibranches.exe, and clicking Open again.
Updating the game does not work/My account info does not save: The folder is likely in read-only mode, which prevents files from being edited. Right click the main BFDI: Branches folder, and go into its properties. Change the read-only settings to allow files inside of the folder to be overwritten.
My game data not saving: To fix this, do NOT run the game through a shortcut, run it through the application in the BFDI: Branches folder.
How do I log in/use Online Levels/use Gelatin's Shop: Accounts and Online Levels are unlocked after beating the demo's Story Mode, which is a tutorial and 4 levels. Account login is in the bottom right of the Home Menu in the person and gear icon, and Gelatin's Shop, Inventory, and Profile Settings are in the profile icon in the bottom right of the Home Menu.
How do I get Branch Coins for Gelatin's Shop: After beating Story Mode, go to Online Levels and beat Spotlight Levels. The higher the difficulty they are, the more Branch Coins you will earn.
How do I go back to Edit Mode after playing a level in the level creator: Press Enter.

I tired to run BFDI:Branches it on my VM, but it will either do nothing or it will crash.

everything about this demo was great! my favorite feature overall was the music in the fourth level. I think it's really clever to add the option to make your own levels and share them. Looking forward to updates in the future!

it would be really cool if they added more BFDI characters, it would mean that there would be way more options and it would be more fun
this game is literally so cool, I've played it like multiple times and I legit freaked out when I saw the trailer. I'm tryna figure out one thing tho; what is bbcode and how do I use it
BBcode is the markup language used for text in the game for things like NPC text and user profiles. The game gives some example BBcode tags on the side. If you're unsure how someone made something in BBcode, press Enter to open the level editor, then place an NPC on the same tile to open up the text field.

Would there be a mobile version or Web version? If no if possible please make a version that doesn't need OpenGL because my computer uses DirectX 12.
SAME HERE, my opengl is 2.0 and can't run it! (req. 3.3+)
Even Mesa3D doesn't work!
I just noticed that Leafy's jump is slightly lower than the other characters' double jumps, even Pin's if you time it right, and that's gonna bother me for the rest of my life because a few custom levels I've played have had jumps she just barely can't make but everyone else can.
I mean like, that does make up for the absurd amount of time you can float…

This game is really fun and good. I like the way it feel and controls.
It was so fun that I downloaded it around midnight and just kept playing and playing until suddenly I went "Hey my brain hurts" and I looked at the clock and it was 3 AM. And it's still 3 AM as of writing this so I'm gonna go to sleep now goodnight.

Will there be a chromeOS version at some point?
A problem with bfdi branches, it uses opengl 3.3 which is bad because it's already pretty inaccessible with it only having one port for windows and because it uses opengl 3.3 not all windows users can use it.
this is moreso a thing with the Godot game engine (that branches uses), the branches team can't do anything about it other than switching engines/engine versions (hard) or somehow writing their own rendering backend (also hard)
also in the future will you add everything from main levels to editor (aka the bottom of 3D pillars, the beams that make finish and checkpoints longer exc.)
how do you rotate objects
i think all of those are already in the editor, just click on some objects multiple times in the object selector
They are available in the editor, you have to click on an element to change its style.
how do i use the camera follow block
Entering a red Camera Stop tile locks the camera in place. Then, entering a green Camera Follow tile makes it follow the player again.
my branches coin counter say <null>,fix it
Try exiting and re-entering the shop.
