Various changes & bug fixes

May 29

A few changes:

Stool -> Chair. This was changed to teach a more generic and usable word, this word's mastery progress has been reset.
2 typo fixes
2 Small signs at the convenience stores have been updated to retain an E for Everyone rating
Fixed a bug regarding the quiz mode selection on controller
The Find/Quiz Mode menu now has a small animation to show that it can be swapped more clearly.
The "Export Favourites" button in the pause menu now has an icon

I have always loved to find cool locatoins in the game mt favorite is the trurk in the back ally or the dog store but wanted to hear some other peoples toughts.

Vocabulary tests

I am really enjoying the game! I would like to congratulate the developer! I like the way you can test the knowledge learned from the 145 words in such a dynamic way. However, I feel that tests could be added for the lessons in the notebook, with a dynamic similar to Duolingo, because it would help a lot to better remember the phrases and vocabulary that are in the notebook and on the back of the photos....

Why does this game exist?

While the idea of "making learning fun" is all well and good, learning a language is a long, arduous and not the least bit simplistic or entertaining process. This game barely even scratches the surface of learning Japanese, since it can't teach you anything more than singular words or concepts, instead of any useable phrases or linguistic nuances. So yeah, why does it exist? I could understand if the game was marketed as just a fun li'l gimmick thing not to be taken seriously, but come ♥♥♥♥♥♥...

this "game" (if you can even call it a game) is extremely well put together - like the art style, the music and the overall idea is nicely done. however, i think the biggest issues with this "game" is that there isnt much to do outside of taking pictures and quizzing yourself...

i would love to see NPC quests were they go "???" when you start but as you take pictures of objects, it slowly reveal what they want - like "??? butcher ??? beef". so you talk to the butcher and buy some beef for the quest.

i just want something to do cause otherwise it gets boring really quickly

I took Japanese in college but I haven't used it in a long time. I am really enjoying studying with this game. It's also fun to make cute photos and the bgm is relaxing. There is a lot of useful vocabulary to study and make your own sentences with.

As someone who knows zero Japanese, this game looks woefully underprepared to teach me

Just looking at the trailers, I have no doubt I will not learn much, if anything, from this game. There are no English modifiers that walk through the pronunciations of the words. There's no explanation of how to read or write kanji. If I used this, I would likely learn really bad habits and pronunciations. There is an RPG that teaches Japanese that goes through all this, way way better: Hirigana Forbidden Speech. I will stick to that one if/when I decide to learn. This game feels like it's made for peop...

This is a fun way to learn Japanese for me. I have learned a few more words that I didn't know and refreshed on what I already knew. The way you look for the items was fun personally for me because it made me really think about what I was looking for instead of just trying to guess from a list of words. You can change the finding mode to be just voice or just text, which really helped with my weak spot with listening that stopped me from recognising the text pattern. This is really good for the beginning and will get people more excited to learn. I hope for future updates and for the game to become more well known.

'Quiz Mode' Hotfix

Some bugs have been fixed:

'Focused' list should now not reset. But if you have recently played it may have already reset until you next play through Find Mode at least once for each card.
Some Quiz Mode statistics were not saving, or rewarding coins
Some pop up translations were not showing
Various other fixes, and typos

'Quiz Mode' & More Update Now Live!

Introducing 'Quiz Mode'

Quiz Mode lets you study the vocabulary that you learn on the back of your Photo Flash-Cards!
You can set up a study session in-game and answer multiple choice questions to earn more coins for buying Filters!

Export Your Photos

You can now export your favourite photos as .jpegs and transparent .png flash-cards!
If you have any issues with this feature, please let me know in the Discord or Steam discussions area!

Incorrect Answers Now Shown After Find Mode!

Your incorrect answers will now be given as a list at the end of a session of Find Mode (and the new Quiz Mode!), so you'll know which words you'll need to study more!

Reading & Listening Setting

Find Mode & Quiz Mode now let you swap between Reading & Listening, Reading or Listening modes so you can practice the way you want to!

Extra Answers Accepted in Find Mode

Some words in Shashingo could technically have different multiple "correct" answers when you make a guess. Now, some words will accept a few additional answers when photographed.

For example: If you are searching for "food / tabemono", you can now answer with a photo of an "egg / tamago"

I understand how annoying it must've been to take a photograph of a cherry blossom tree and it be marked incorrect for "tree." It's now possible!!

Pop-up Translation Size Slider

In the settings menu you can now change the size of the in-world pop-up translations!

Invert X or Y-Axis

Many users asked for this option, so here it is! The setting words for both controllers and mouse input.

Updated Tutorial Images

One or two tutorial images have been updated for clarity, as some users are missing out on some of the game's features.

Added The 2 Karaoke Songs to the Credits

Additional Kickstarter backers will be added to the credits soon too.

Plus various other bug fixes!
