Publishers summary [ ] The impossible had happened. Emperor Palpatine , Darth Sidious, whom everyone believed to be dead , had survived the Battle of Endor and had spent the past few decades hatching a plan that, if worked, would reinstall him in command of the galaxy . With the First Order as a tool in its hands and an impressive new fleet that seemed invincible, its fight was won in advance. But Palpatine's plan failed to take into account the Resistance 's struggle and the resolve of its members, which included his own granddaughter, Rey . The resistance fighters didn't stand a chance, but, as had happened twenty-one years ago, it all hinged on a battle on the hidden planet of Exegol that turned the situation around completely.
