In 9 ABY, during the New Republic Era, the city of Calodan located on the forest planet of Corvus was liberated from Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth and her army of guards by the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano during her search for Ezra Bridger and Chiss Grand Admiral Thrawn with the help of the Mandalorian warrior Din Djarin.

During the Clone Wars, Morgan Elsbeth's people, the Nightsisters of the planet Dathomir were massacred by the command of Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies Grievous, though she survived. In her anger, she partook in an industry that contributed to the production of the Imperial Starfleet after the Galactic Empire's rise to power at the end of the Clone Wars, plundering worlds for resources and destroying them in the process. At some point she acquired a staff of pure beskar.^[4]

Before the fall of the Empire and into the time of the New Republic,^[8] Elsbeth ruled as Magistrate of the walled^[4] city of Calodan on the forest planet of Corvus,^[9] from where she continued her business and worked under her master, the lost Grand Admiral Thrawn.^[4] Calodan's citizens suffered under Elsbeth's ruthless rule, in which she oppressed the villagers and considered their lives to be meaningless, torturing prisoners and forcing the citizens, who she would use as hostages, to live in poor conditions. She maintained her rule with an army of scout guards led by a hired gunslinger, Lang, and was guarded by two HK-87 assassin droids.^[4] At one point, a New Republic delegation under Ambassador Nadura, herself a former resident of Corvus, arrived with an offer of New Republic membership, so long as Elsbeth surrendered her control. While Nadura did manage to get out a distress signal that reached the Mandalorian Lady Bo-Katan Kryze and had revealed the existance of the New Republic to her people, she, along with every member of her delegation, was killed on Elsbeth's order.^[8]

In time,^[4] the former^[7] Jedi Ahsoka Tano^[4]—an ally of Kryze^[9]—came into conflict with Elsbeth, seeking the knowledge of her master's location and the freedom of Calodan's citizens by defeating her.^[4] Ahsoka and the Mandalorian Sabine Wren had undertaken a quest to find Ezra Bridger, a Jedi Padawan that went missing with Grand Admiral Thrawn during the Liberation of Lothal. Wren and Tano followed different leads^[10] and parted ways, with Tano continuing her search for Thrawn while Wren lived on the planet Lothal.^[3] Tano sought out Elsbeth on Corvus as she knew Elsbeth was previously under Thrawn's command.^[10]

Meanwhile, the Mandalorian warrior Din Djarin, sought a Jedi in order to reunite his foundling child, Grogu, back with his Order.^[4] Having received information on Tano, including her location, from Kryze.^[9] Djarin arrived to town and was summoned by Elsbeth, who offered the bounty hunter the beskar staff in exchange for killing the Jedi, unaware that Djarin had in fact already been seeking her out and believing that as a warrior of Mandalore, who's people had clashed many times with the Jedi, Djarin would happily accept the task. Elsbeth provided Djarin with the coordinates to the Jedi's location, and he along with Grogu set out into the woods.^[4]

Forming an alliance[]

Upon traveling deep into the woods, Djarin put Grogu on a rock as he surveyed the area through his visor, he was startled when hearing a snapping sound, however after using his rifle scope he decided it was a false alarm after noticing an indigenous beast. However right after letting his guard down, Tano jumped out of the treeline and began striking him, although Djarin was able to block her strikes using his vambraces. He then used his flamethrower to make Tano retreat, burning her cloak in the process. While Tano was recovering, Djarin managed to tie her up with his fibercord whip. During the brief pause, Tano noticed a branch above and gave Djarin a smirk, before using a Force jump to leap over the branch, pulling Djarin into the air, which forced his to detach the cord.^[4]

While landing Tano used her lightsabers to cut free from the cable before turning to face Djarin again. While Djarin had raised his blaster, he informed Tano that Bo-Katan had sent him, and she noticed Grogu, and with that, the fight was over. The next day, Tano was practicing the Force with a stubborn Grogu, who finally practiced telekinesis when Djarin offered him a knob from the Razor Crest he liked to play with. Tano declined to train the infant after noticing Grogu's strong connection to Djarin, but they agreed to an alliance; if Djarin helped Tano defeat Elsbeth and take Calodan, she would make sure that Grogu was properly trained.^[4]

ScoutGuardsCorvus — Ahsoka Tano ambushes Calodan's scout guards.

Appearing from the midst of the forest, Ahsoka Tano leaped over the city's walls, defeating the scout guard posted on the battlements before confronting Morgan Elsbeth and her forces in the city. Elsbeth ordered her hired gunslinger Lang and her forces to kill Tano and execute the remaining citizens before locking herself behind the inner gate. Tano ran across the roofs of nearby buildings evading blaster fire, and as Lang, the guards, and Elsbeth's two HK-87 assassin droids split up across the city, Din Djarin arrived on his jetpack to free the prisoners before they could be terminated.^[4]

Across the city, Tano defeated the remaining scout guard and one of the assassin droids while Djarin freed the prisoners and helped them inside Wing's home. Lang caught Djarin and realized he had joined forces with Tano, who leapt over the gate and confronted Elsbeth in a duel behind it while Lang and Djarin listened on in a stand-off. Elsbeth, fighting with the beskar staff, disarmed Tano of one of her lightsabers but Tano eventually disarmed her and demanded to know the location of her master. Lang attempted to trick Djarin into letting his guard down and blast him when they heard Elsbeth's staff drop, but Djarin shot and killed Lang before he could blast him.^[4] Wing warned Djarin about the other assassin droid from above and behind, fulfilling^[4] Nadura's hope that he would carry out his role, however small, in the eventual liberation of Calodan she knew to be coming.^[8] Djarin then shot the droid before it could kill him.^[4]

Aftermath[]

"You're like a father to him. I cannot train him… There is one possibility. Go to the planet Tython. There you will find the ancient ruins of a temple that has a strong connection to the Force. Place Grogu on the seeing stone at the top of a mountain."
"Then what?"
"Then Grogu may choose his path. If he reaches out through the Force, there's a chance a Jedi may sense his presence and come searching for him. Then again, there aren't many Jedi left."

AhsokaWing-TMCh13 — Tano and Governor Wing re-enter a liberated Calodan.

The citizens of Calodan celebrated their freedom after Elsbeth's defeat while Wing took up the mantle as governor of Calodan with Tano's support. Tano gave the staff to Djarin outside the city.^[4]

Djarin eventually returned to his Razor Crest ship to say farewell to Grogu and bring him to Tano for training. However, Djarin remained with Grogu for some time before eventually departing his ship. There, Tano told Djarin that Grogu saw him as a father and refused to train him due to their strong bond. Tano instead advised Djarin to travel to the ruins of an ancient temple on Tython, where Grogu could choose to reach out through the Force and possibly be sensed by other Jedi who could come looking for him. Djarin agreed and parted ways with Tano, who walked back towards the town as Djarin and Grogu flew away on the Crest.^[4] Elsbeth, meanwhile, informed Ahsoka that there existed a device hidden in an ancient Nightsister stronghold constructed on the planet Arcana, which Elsbeth believed to be a map that would lead to her lost master's location, although the witch kept silent about the HK-series assassin droid she had sent to guard it. With this in mind, Ahsoka set off with the droid Huyang to Arcana while Elsbeth was arrested for crimes as an Imperial sympathizer and taken by the Vesper to face justice for her atrocities, though the cruiser was intercepted by mercenaries in her employ, former Jedi Knight Baylan Skoll and his apprentice, Shin Hati, who massacred most of the ship's crew and freed Morgan.
